  1. Heh heh: "You see dear citizens? After all you need not less but MOAR Gestapo if you want to be safe & secure & free & happy!!!"
  2. German government warns of Windows 8 "Windows 8 is an unacceptable security risk for companies and authorities, experts warn the government. The so-called Trusted Computing is a back door for the NSA." Original in German: http://www.zeit.de/digital/datenschutz/2013-08/trusted-computing-microsoft-windows-8-nsa
  3. 3DMark and Windows 8 RTC: Official Futuremark Response
  4. Windows 8 Benchmark Records No Longer Accepted At HWBOT - Benchmark Result Veracity Compromised If I get it right Tiles no longer syncs with hardware RTC (for compatibility with the cheap toys that lack it), and system time accuracy goes belly up whenever you underclock or overclock from Windows, thus compromising benchmarking.
  5. << Charlotte the Harlott wrote >> "... Your move Microsoft. Donate the patents for FAT, FAT32, exFAT and NTFS for the public good! Channel your inner Benjamin Franklin. I am totally serious here, I hope anybody reading this idea will make the effort to contact Microsoft and suggest they do exactly this! That would be a very impressive act of generosity indeed. " << >> Seems the gods have listened: Samsung Properly Open-Sources exFAT File-System P.S.: I throw in the towel with this pile of manure interface, it's now impossible to quote selectively and format your posts decently in this forum.
  6. (Sorry for quoting this way, I just refuse to deal with this ridiculous new interface) << Charlotte the Harlotte said >> "... The concept of two people securely communicating is the worst nightmare of all governments and their agents. That's why this is going to be difficult. I think they will stop at nothing to prevent it's development and use. This is the bane of government, people talking behind their backs, plotting to "destroy" them, or even just voting them out. They cannot have that ..." <<>> Back in the nineties, when the internet was blooming, I was wondering "how comes they are allowing this?". The only logical answer was "for them, the 'benefits' must far outweigh the 'drawbacks', otherwise they'd shoot down this show in a fortnight". What is the Matrix?: CONTROL << Charlotte the Harlotte said >> "... And to think we used to make fun of 3rd world dictators for preserving their own power." <<>> Man I remember the times when the dissidents were fleeing from Russia and it was the USA who granted them assylum .
  7. Another example of logo retardation: ------------------- "WTF? This 'modern' crap is ruining everything!"
  8. Heh, appropriate naming. For those uninitiated in System Shock 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOFZ5fv_pb8
  9. Had a paleontological moment similar to Sparkles' with a 1998 baby-AT K6-2 desktop archosaur whose PSU exploded & burnt big style in ~2003 and was given up for dead. After a decade in a sun-cooked loft I made a tongue-in-cheek resuscitation attempt before junking it, and to my amazement the thing was still alive. Some old soldiers just refuse to die. Win XP alive and kicking despite 2014 kill switch (Don't ask about Win 8) P.S.: What a disastrous change the one this forum has suffered, the previous version was light years better, faster and prettier . What a widespread plague that of immolating all the good computing practices to feed the voracious 'modern' Moloch .
  10. IMHO this Metro pastel low-contrast crap is like martian red weed: Growing everywhere and ruining everything.
  11. This in a website specialized in (usually very good) hardware reviews: Windows 8.1, and Why You Should Let Go of Windows 7 "Submit! Resistance is futile!" I'm being reminded of the Ardennes Offensive (total movilization, last desperate gamble, etc). One commenter left this gem: Another commenter made me broke my personal coffee-sprayed-monitor record again:
  12. I love these keen articles in The Register. Microsoft partners seriously underwhelmed by Windows 8.1 Just broke my personal coffee-sprayed-monitor record upon reading this gem:
  13. Just want to thank Mr. Geoff Chappell for his whistleblower article on memory limitations in 32-bit Windows, it has been useful to me. Seems that isn't the first time he has exposed weird behaviours in MS software: AARD code .
  14. I was reading on the Wikipedia about the Bay of Pigs when stumbled onto this. For some reason while reading it I kept thinking about this all over the web phenomenom we can call 'The Metrotard Attitude'. Groupthink
  15. The caprices of Babel's Tower have also put carmakers in trouble more than once .
  16. 'It's for your security': The perfect Letter of Marque nowadays .
  17. Yes it is. And it is from one of our very own friends here, XpClient. I take my hat off to XpClient then .
  18. Superb article (in superb blog): End of the Windows eXPerience: Windows 8 is not my idea
  19. In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act. George Orwell Please keep up the homeric work gentlemen.
  20. I think this point can't be stressed enough:
  21. I'm beginning to suspect Se7en will be the last Microsoft OS I will ever use.
  22. This hits the nail in the head, literally :
