  1. RunOnceEx? I call a .bat from nlite that includes all my 3rd party software installs (and further .reg and modifications) I call it as: "%~dp0EXECUTE\WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe" /q /norestart But I don't think it's relevant, now upon a clean install of Windows (no nlite, no nothing), I tried to install from GUI (double click), it seems to go smooth but the created log contains the same "errors" and QFECheck report it as "needs to be reinstalled".
  2. Now I stumbled over this post in Wincert, it has more hotfixes than my list, I wouldn't care less if they were not old hotfixes as they seem, I list them: 2.0 SP2 KB976569 - Update for the .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 forward compatibility KB976576 - Rollup Update KB976765 - ASP.NET update KB980773 - NCL update KB2789643 - Vulnerabilities in .NET Framework Could Allow Elevation of Privilege 3.0 SP2 KB976570 - Forward Comptibility Update KB976769 - WCF update 3.5 SP1 KB960043 - Dual Branch Servicing Maybe someone can verify whether they are required or not (ie. non critical).
  3. I just found out that DXUPAC didn't add Spanish for CCleaner in purpose to promote ricktendo64's own addon, but by now it should updated so that's nice. Then about .net framework I found some addons on wincert, but since I have to repack them (for spanish localization) and still won't cut installing time I better save myself the hassle.
  4. Well, i think I'm not even gonna bother, look at all the faulty entries in procmon, this coming from a clean fresh install (didn't touch nlite): 14:30:47,2113318 svchost.exe 948 RegOpenKey So if that's how Microsoft designed it to be... then let it be. I will just add a reminder so I don't come again asking for it. Still I want to fix the following, I haven't seen this error again on this install so it makes me wonder. Error 22/03/2013 4:42:52 .NET Runtime None 0 Not Available DOGWAY and also KB942288-v3 is impossible to install, even on GUI mode it fails (tested with QFECheck). How is this Hotfix (Windows Installer 4.5) supposed to be installed? There's no freaking way.
  5. The link doesn't work, but I found QFECheck googling around. All my hotfixes report as successful except kb942288-v3: KB942288-v3: This hotfix should be reinstalled. The following files are not valid in the system catalog: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSISIP.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSISIP.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSIHND.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSIHND.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSI.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSI.DLL I'm also having issues installing Java at RunOnce, this is my code, maybe I missed something? it says "copied successful", but then "Can't find C:\jre-7u17-windows-i586.exe", indeed it seems it couldn't be copied to begin with. What drives me nuts, is that my code seems to work running from HDD, while testing, but not from the CD/ISO image in a real XP Install scenario. xcopy /Y "%~dp0EXECUTE\folder\jre-7u17-windows-i586.exe" %SystemDrive% start /w %SystemDrive%\jre-7u17-windows-i586.exe /lang=1034 /s /v\"/qn ADDLOCAL=jrecore JAVAUPDATE=0 REBOOT=Suppress EXPLORER=0 MOZILLA=1 SYSTRAY=0 WEBSTARTICON=0 DEL "%SystemDrive%\jre-7u17-windows-i586.exe" EDIT: and more errors from Procmon. I don't claim all of them are to worry about but I would like to know at least if any, specially minding the lsass.exe one, with ID 664, it's constantly writting without me doing anything at all. I'm gonna install on VM a base OS (without nlite) and check what do I get to compare. 10:18:57,5406121 lsass.exe 500 RegOpenKey HKLM\SAM\SAM\DOMAINS\Account\Groups\000001F4 NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Read/Write 10:18:57,5406588 lsass.exe 500 RegOpenKey HKLM\SAM\SAM\DOMAINS\Account\Aliases\000001F4 NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Read/Write 10:18:57,5407211 lsass.exe 500 RegOpenKey HKLM\SAM\SAM\DOMAINS\Account\Users\000001F4 SUCCESS Desired Access: Read/Write 9:56:23,7704674 lsass.exe 664 RegQueryValue HKLM\SECURITY\Policy\SecDesc\(Default) BUFFER OVERFLOW Length: 12 10:18:34,0362145 svchost.exe 788 RegOpenKey HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\minint NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Read 10:18:32,2834130 svchost.exe 788 RegQueryValue HKCR\CLSID\{4FA18276-912A-11D1-AD9B-00C04FD8FDFF}\InprocServer32\InprocServer32 NAME NOT FOUND Length: 144 10:18:32,2835200 svchost.exe 788 RegOpenKey HKCR\CLSID\{4FA18276-912A-11D1-AD9B-00C04FD8FDFF}\InprocServerX86 NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Maximum Allowed 10:18:32,2835633 svchost.exe 788 RegOpenKey HKCR\CLSID\{4FA18276-912A-11D1-AD9B-00C04FD8FDFF}\LocalServer32 NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Maximum Allowed 10:20:03,0682194 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Control Panel\Desktop NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Read 10:20:03,0683214 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegQueryValue HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\MultiUILanguageId NAME NOT FOUND Length: 256 10:20:02,8111144 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCU\Software\Classes\WVXFile NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Maximum Allowed 10:20:02,8114731 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCU\Software\Classes\WVXFile\CLSID NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Query Value 10:20:02,8115069 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCR\WVXFile\CLSID NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Query Value 10:20:02,8115784 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCU\Software\Classes\.wvx NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Query Value 10:20:02,7996277 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCU\Software\Classes\WSHFile\Shell\Open\command NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Query Value 10:20:02,8001454 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCU\Software\Classes\WSHFile NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Maximum Allowed 10:20:02,8003029 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCU\Software\Classes\WSHFile\CurVer NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Query Value 10:20:02,7916594 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{06290BD2-48AA-11D2-8432-006008C3FBFC} NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Query Value 10:20:02,7920228 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCR\CLSID\{06290BD2-48AA-11D2-8432-006008C3FBFC}\Factory bindable using IPersistMoniker NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Query Value 10:20:02,3688842 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCU\Software\Classes\.r07 NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Maximum Allowed 10:20:02,6722101 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCU\Software\Classes\ttcfile\CurVer NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Query Value 10:20:02,6722518 Explorer.EXE 1112 RegOpenKey HKCR\ttcfile\CurVer NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Query Value 10:20:49,9908872 Notepad2.exe 272 UnlockFileSingle C:\Documents and Settings\Administrador\Datos de programa\Notepad2\Notepad2.ini RANGE NOT LOCKED Offset: 0, Length: 4.294.967.295 10:20:21,5378470 Notepad2.exe 272 RegQueryValue HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage\0 NAME NOT FOUND Length: 532
  6. Ok, the WinMgmt ID5603 error is just a known warning explained here. Probably because I'm on the Administrator account. I would like to hear about the other errors, specially this one: Warning 22/03/2013 4:39:55 System.ServiceModel.Install 3.0.0.0 None 0 Not Available DOGWAY And also about the Windows Installer 4.5 (KB942288-v3.log) that is driving me mad. I can't install it, well it gets installed because I check the version on command line by typing msiexec and it's indeed v4.5, but the log is always full of errors. Should I integrate it? add in RunOnce (as I have it)? manually after reboot? What I read somewhere is: "KB942288 is problematic. You can edit SFCFiles.dll to exclude these Windows Installer files or disable WFP completely." And I tried to disable WFP, but the log still is full of errors.
  7. I copied again my ISO and now it works. It seems it was faulty, now I don't know how a digital copy can be faulty, but now this works, so thanks god.
  8. yes, but this is rather general errors from an unattended installation, that's why I posted here. I think everything is fine nlite, that's why I posted my script.
  9. I'm getting many log errors in my WINDOWS folder after installation. Here is my last_session.ini There are a few concerning KB builds all with the same error message: 1.042: In Function GetReleaseSet, line 1240, RegQueryValueEx failed with error 0x2 6.920: In Function TestVolatileFlag, line 11825, RegOpenKeyEx failed with error 0x2 6.920: In Function TestVolatileFlag, line 11857, RegOpenKeyEx failed with error 0x2 The KB are: KB942288-v3.log KB2360937.log KB2570791.log KB2570947.log KB2603381.log KB2698365.log KB2736233.log I also seem to get numerous errors in dd_XPS_LP.txt and dd_XPS.txt, and an array of logs from net framework I believe named similar to dd_wcf_retCA7AF8.txt with next errors: ServiceModelReg [04:34:51:662]: Warning: Could not detect IIS installation or IIS is disabled, skipping the Web Host Script Mappings component since it depends upon IIS to function properly. ServiceModelReg [04:34:51:802]: Warning: Configuration section system.serviceModel.activation already exists in c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\machine.config. At the bottom it says completed successfully, but I could not tell the same since I'm getting also many errors in the Event Viewer (only included one instance of repetitive entries): Error 22/03/2013 4:42:52 .NET Runtime None 0 Not Available DOGWAY Warning 22/03/2013 4:39:55 System.ServiceModel.Install 3.0.0.0 None 0 Not Available DOGWAY Info 22/03/2013 4:39:36 ASP.NET 2.0.50727.0 Setup 1019 Not Available DOGWAY Warning 22/03/2013 4:39:36 ASP.NET 2.0.50727.0 Setup 1020 Not Available DOGWAY Warning 22/03/2013 4:09:22 WinMgmt None 5603 SYSTEM DOGWAY Warning 22/03/2013 4:08:02 WinMgmt None 63 SYSTEM DOGWAY Here is a pack containing all my errors for details. edit: I'm also checking an old build, and I get the exact same errors, so it's not something tied to anything I have specifically done, but rather a workflow issue. I would think this is the normal behavior when installing OS in a VM?
  10. Ok, privacy hell is back. Hotmail is now Outlook, and now it seems I am eternally connected to messenger. You can check this by clicking on the smiley at the top-right, and on the bottom of the column you read, Connected to MSN. (BTW the facebook thingy never goes away) You can also see this if you click on you avatar, it just let you choose on "available" or "hidden", if you click on Close Session, you automatically get kicked out of hotmail/outlook altogether. What is this bizarreness I sense all over me? PD: Not to mention the design sucks, but that's another story.
  11. Well I have to retract from what I said on my OP. The IE8 addon built on DXUPAC is OK, it's just that it triggered more errors when added on the problematic source. What I wanted to remark is a sentence from the next post: "Using nLite on a 64bit OS in a 32bit environment will for the most part fail. (32bit OS's don't have the capability of handling 64bit files properly)" That could explain the problems I am having if that's true for the inverse, 32bit OS on a 64bit environment. "For the most part" could explain why one source failed and the other didn't. But what annoys me is that I couldn't trick nlite building the OS on a VM with 32bit XP. It really looks like nlite relies a lot on OS environment, but I can only check this next day when I test on a true XP SP3 x86 system of a friend, and see if it fails or not. Another thing, where is the driver signing check in nlite? I can't for the life of me find that option. It's that or disable by command line, I heard bcdedit.exe can be used for vista onwards, what about XP? edit: looks like nlite adds that option automatically? I found it's already added in HIVESFT.INF (with one zero though). Anyways I also saw the reg. entry in this post, I will add both.
  12. I am the proof because it happened to me. Upon further search I could confirm it was a bug, just google for it, although clearly people on msfn doesn't seem aware of this. edit: your PROOF. It took me 1 sec. bother yourself a bit.
  13. I have no antivirus, because my laptop broke and now I'm on a temporary system until I format. I checked with another XP source and it builds without problems. What I found out is that this source doesn't like my OS, because my old custom build was using the same source but built on my laptop XP SP3 x86 and it worked (installed) as always. So what I can try is to borrow a friend's system with XP SP3 x86 and try to build it there because building inside a XPSP3 VM didn't work either. It's a bit a hit or miss but I don't think I need to do all the hassle explained on RyanVM, I hope not to. For the time being I will try to update and improve other areas of the unattended.

  15. I must say that it still isn't perfect at all. It gives me almost the full thing, but fails and errors aren't passed to the log, probably because as commented above they are passed through the error channel, making my original purpose meaningless, since all I wanted with this is to check errors after all. Anyways, I'm not concerned anymore so if anyone want to help, then it's welcomed.
  16. Forget about the chipset drivers, they are known to mangle some windows settings and device configurations. link.
  17. mmm well thanks for the advice, I had the ping command inside the batch file. But maybe that wasn't ideal. Anyways, any idea about my issues? ICFGNT.DLL and WHS.dll not being installed? As I said my old build is setup same as this one (concerning ping, etc) and it works, so that's not the problem. EDIT: Built ISO in virtual XP x86, run in VBOX from XP x64 with same issues. Next test, VBOX inside VBOX. I also found some threads talking about this issue here, seems like an old and random bug. This is my setuperr.log. My healthy setuperr.log looks like this, although not sure now if that is healthy at all.
  18. On XP x64, but building XP x86. I must have built like more than 20 isos one after another trying to figure out what was causing the issues. They are actually only present when installing XP on VBox, not while building. I managed to narrow one, while XP is registering components I was getting error messages like: system32/regsvr32.exe: windows has no access.... same for cmd.exe, nhelper.exe, rundll32.exe, grpconv.exe, nlite.cmd, etc It was being caused by the IE8 addon built on DXUPAC. Still I was getting some conflicts and in the end I decided to test the simplest. No nlite tweaks, hotfixes or addons. No nothing, compress, and test. This is my last_session.ini The errors I get are: -while registering components->"Windows can't load internet configuration library ICFGNT.DLL..." -And then I have configured a RunOnceGUI command for a bat, which calls a .vbs file. Well, the thing is it doesn't work because it seems that WSH.inf (windows script host) hasn't been installed by nlite, that means that there are application I can't install either, etc -can't access msconfig from run box, and who knows what else might not be working.... What is happening here? can having a likely faulty XP x64 (it needs a format indeed) have an incidence on nlite iso buildings? I have enabled VT on BIOS, and old custom builds done in XP x86 do install fine on VBox so it isn't a VBox problem either. edit: If the problem is XP x64, I can lastly do one experiment, install my old working build on VBOX, install nlite and build my XP there...
  19. Yes, Yzöwl, there's no point, it's just a staged test (dummy) example to test things out. On the real script I will be installing programs and patches. Thanks for all the help!
  20. My laptop crashed a month ago. I'm back again and now I tried with a more on earth situation, using simple commands. I created a test rar: link basically this is the content: TEE.bat in the folder Run.bat prueba.cmd ^| TEE.BAT [ -a ] >mylog.txt prueba.cmd xcopy /Y "Banco\Copiar.txt" "Banco/Folder" ping localhost -n 5 >nul ECHO. ECHO Removing installations logs and other interesting crap ECHO Please wait... DEL "Banco\Borrar.txt" rd /s /q "Banco/Folder" I hit run and it processes everything fine and exports to log, but I don't see anything in console. Do I need tail.exe or something? If I use the TEE.VBS variant I get the output on screen and log at the same time, but only the command answers, not the questions as tee.bat does) EDIT: OK, I solved it! Finally I used the TEE.VBS variant. In order to make it output command calls as well I had to remove the @ signs, and now I have full log on console screen and log at the same time. If someone still wants to help with the Tee.bat method I'd be welcome, for the sake of learning.
  21. With the INF update utility you mean the "Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility"? I used it once but I had issues, it caused some tabs to disappear on the device properties from Device Manager. Also, apart from storage device, AHCI also supports optical devices as well right? whther it is considered storage... well, actually anything connected through the SATA ports ?
  22. I'm a bit lost here, can I just update the AHCI drivers from Device Manager->Update Driver button? Or do I need to do it from BIOS and stuff? And if so what entries do I need to update this way? I attach a screenshot because I have many ports using AHCI interface, do I need to update manually with each of them? As for now I only updated using the executable, which also installs the software, monitor, etc and it actually updates the ESB2 AHCI controller inside the IDE ATA/ATAPI section to v.8.9.8, all the rest still uses v.7.3...
  23. I see. This? start /B /separate (mycommands+flags) >> %temp%\log_x264.log 2>&1 start /B /separate (mycommands+flags) >> %temp%\log_x264.log 2>&1 ... I guess it was ignoring call line because I was writing 1>NUL
  24. Wonderful, this almost feel like hacking! I think using x264 wasn't the best example since it's only for my tests. I will use the logging for the "Install at first Boot" batch of an OS install, so I don't think I will have the described problems. Most likely I will get along with the TEE.BAT route. I also used your first example with tail.exe. It exported the answer (error log), I guess this is all I want to know (discarding the call line). Also I can anyways run a kill process command for tail.exe. So I should always append the next for any of my commands right? start /B /separate (mycommands+flags) 1>NUL 2>%temp%\log_x264.log start /B /separate (mycommands+flags) 1>NUL 2>%temp%\log_x264.log start /B /separate (mycommands+flags) 1>NUL 2>%temp%\log_x264.log ... I couldn't run your second example, I got a BSOD and it scared the hell out of me. I think with all these example it's more than enough.
  25. Ok, for the second alternative (using TEE.BAT) I managed to output something. I had to add > before the log filename, and also remove the @ before the command in the bat file. But, all I get in the log is the question, my input command: D:\Programas\VIDEO\x264-2245.exe --level 4.1 --preset slower --tune film --pass 1 --bitrate 1500 --deblock -2:-1 --keyint 300 --min-keyint 30 --aq-strength 1.2 --fps 29.970 --output NUL Copia.avs and not my answer (or Q&A together): C:\OEM>D:\Programas\VIDEO\x264-2245.exe --level 4.1 --preset slower --tune film --pass 1 --bitrate 1500 --deblock -2:-1 --keyint 300 --min-keyint 30 --aq-strength 1.2 --fps 29.970 --output NUL Copia.avs avs [info]: 720x480p 0:0 @ 30000/1001 fps (cfr) x264 [info]: using cpu capabilities: MMX2 SSE2Fast SSSE3 FastShuffle SSE4.1 Cache64 x264 [info]: profile Main, level 4.1 [1.0%] 1/101 frames, 1.10 fps, 2075.60 kb/s, eta 0:01:30 [14.9%] 15/101 frames, 12.98 fps, 1109.24 kb/s, eta 0:00:06 [34.7%] 35/101 frames, 24.89 fps, 1600.93 kb/s, eta 0:00:02 [74.3%] 75/101 frames, 45.29 fps, 1476.59 kb/s, eta 0:00:00 x264 [info]: frame I:1 Avg QP:21.54 size: 8657 x264 [info]: frame P:29 Avg QP:18.16 size: 9658 x264 [info]: frame B:71 Avg QP:18.83 size: 4739 x264 [info]: consecutive B-frames: 2.0% 2.0% 32.7% 63.4% x264 [info]: mb I I16..4: 87.7% 0.0% 12.3% x264 [info]: mb P I16..4: 59.9% 0.0% 0.0% P16..4: 32.6% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% skip: 7.6% x264 [info]: mb B I16..4: 18.1% 0.0% 0.0% B16..8: 31.6% 0.0% 0.0% direct:29.6% skip:20.7% L0:42.6% L1:43.7% BI:13.7% x264 [info]: final ratefactor: 18.81 x264 [info]: direct mvs spatial:97.2% temporal:2.8% x264 [info]: coded y,uvDC,uvAC intra: 45.7% 62.9% 8.7% inter: 19.3% 46.7% 0.5% x264 [info]: i16 v,h,dc,p: 37% 28% 28% 7% x264 [info]: i4 v,h,dc,ddl,ddr,vr,hd,vl,hu: 11% 23% 24% 7% 6% 4% 8% 5% 12% x264 [info]: i8c dc,h,v,p: 53% 23% 23% 2% x264 [info]: Weighted P-Frames: Y:0.0% UV:0.0% x264 [info]: kb/s:1484.21 encoded 101 frames, 56.20 fps, 1484.21 kb/s
