  1. edit> your links talk about RAID in the same way google talks about RAID when I make a search for "RAID". What I am asking is something very specific, install drivers through a USB flash drive. I don-t want to run nlite again, I-m on a very basic XP x64 SP2 now. What I don-t understand is why I do need both AHCI and RAID controllers, but I don-t expect you (submix8c) to answer, you are the type of "playing smart" rather than "being smart".
  2. If you go to the last page of that thread you will see posts from me. I already integrated the AHCI drivers, but we are not talking about that here, we are talking about SAS (RAID) drivers. And FYI, DriversPack no textmode? Who is the stubborn? edit> Im following the steps described here. I know when the drivers are loaded and OS install will work or not if I observe the controller name when the partitions are displayed, my XP x64 DVD sees no partitions, my XP x86 DVD with DriversPack added indicates symmpiv, and my OEM DVD sees lsi_sas which is the correct.
  3. It seems that my best options are to prepare a USB with the drivers using USBKeyPrep from DELL. I just tried and nothing happens, when it asks for insert disc on A: drive, I hit enter but the USB is not loaded/
  4. ooooh, enlightening words, now my problems faded A-W-A-Y!!
  5. Ok, I'm out of luck. After copying the windows files into the HDD I get a BSOD with a 7B code. I wouldn't worry much if I had some way to revert back the harm, there,s no way I can run from CD again, not even with a bartpe CD. It goes directly to boot XP screen before bsod. Bsod also on safe mode. I don't know what to do. It could be because lack of driver, ahci or sas controller but unlikely since I added the driverspack to the XP, and I don't think is the boot.ini problem as described above. Edit: So funny, I disabled SAS and now I can install windows again. I'm not using any raid, would I have any impact if I disable it? Can I still keep using AHCI?
  6. I can't wait, I'm gonna format now. I tested on VM installing on second partition and it seems to autoconfigure boot.ini to partition(2) automatically. Now boot.ini was inside partition(1), but I believe this time anything will be written into the EISA partition as it should be protected or something, well, I hope so, because currently I can see my boot.ini C:\ which is partition 2.
  7. I'm going to format and reinstall the OS soon on a second partition of my primary drive, I have a first partition being the DELL diagnostic tools that I don't want to delete, and I will also be making a third partition for another OS. How is this handled in an unattended? Normally the boot.ini file will indicate: default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS But with this my system won't be able to boot, and hence finish the unattended. It should be partition(2) but how do I change that without interrupting the unattended?
  8. Yeyy!! 12 months to go for the definitive XP! The metro style thing makes me puke everytime I see it. Also Google Play adopted it, Outlook.com as well. Luckily I use stylish addon since long ago with dark styles so I barely notice the change. About Comodo I had to leave the **** program, only because one problem, but a very critical one, so I opted to use Private Firewall since then.
  9. When I make the Server2003 addon for CCleaner 4, it seems to go smoothly, but when installing XP x64 I get all kinds of errors and OS won't install correctly. Am I missing something here? it takes me like 40 minutes every VM test I arrange.
  10. can someone help me? are the ngen calls correct?, are the ngen logs normal? my WINDOWS\inf folder weights 185Mb (XP x64), and it's full of folders that contain pretty much the same subfolders, like: ASP ASP.NET_2.0 ASP ASP.NET_64_2.0 aspnet_state MSDTC Bridge 3.0.0 ServiceModelEndpoint 3.0.0 ServiceModelOperation 3.0.0 ServiceModelService 3.0.0 SMSvcHost 3.0.0 Windows Workflow Foundation 3.0.0
  11. Ok, so I install the b and e packs together without issues right? Thank you!
  12. Question! Does your modded pack support ESB2 AHCI?, if not, can I add it along your pack (so it covers a wider array of hardware)?
  13. Yes, that's something I just realized when trying to "update" manually his list. There's no reason, however, to distrust your pack after all the time and people that might have used it successfully, but good thing to keep it noted. edit: btw a question, XP x64 has DirectX 9.0c already installed in it, is it?, yet I recently saw a newer pack of DirectX 9.0c (it's called re-release) with a newer date (4/18/2011). Inside it includes also x64 cabs, should I install it? DirectX 9.0c v8.0.7600.16385 CRC 0F024BFA DirectX 9.0c v9.0.8112.16421 CRC 9ECD3C73 with date 4/18/2011
  14. So cool, I was already leaning towards your pack for convenience, but maybe this helps Kurt_Aust to update his list, it's always nice to have a more flexible alternative. I applause your choice to leave out a few components (Search, etc), I can't tell what else would I have liked or not until I run a VM test. Malicious Software probably couldn't be needed since there are now Microsoft Security Essentials or much many thirds AV solutions. Thanks for all the help.
  15. "Optional items and groups are described in green (as are their security updates)" ok, ok! I'm using a dark style (using stylish addon here) and didn't notice the description color, only the @ green color. I also failed on registering your "Additional Updates" as included Updates, by some reason I just thought you had included solely the first block. So I will do the recount again, and check differences, now that I realize you have included much more updates than Kurt. What I want to ask is how are "Optional Updates" dealt, do I need to edit any file for this? Ok, here is the summary taking into account your Optional and additional updates (in comparison to Kurt_Aust's list): The next hotfixes are not included in the 5er_UpdatePack: KB950974 - Event System KB950762 - Pragmatic General Multicast (PGM) KB952004 - Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) KB956802 - Graphics Device Interface (GDI) IMAPI_SRV2003_x64.exe KB960803 - Windows HTTP Services KB943729 - Group Policy Preference Client Side Extensions KB967723 - TCP/IP KB2347290 - Print Spooler Service KB2360937 - Local Procedure Call KB2478960 - Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) KB2509553 - DNS Resolution KB2506212 - Fax Cover Page Editor KB2794119 - Time Zone - Cumulative Then I would do the opposite, list the hotfixes on 5eraph's pack not included on Kurt_Aust's list, but since they are the majority, for the Optional and Additional Updates I'll list only the few that are present, the rest are lacking: Updates on 5eraph's pack lacking on Kurt's list: KB967715 - Windows Shell (AutoRun enforcement) (* Already explained) KB2510581 - JScript and VBScript Scripting Engines v5.7 (* Already explained) From Optional and Additional, only the next are present, the rest are lacking in Kurt_Aust's list: KB925876 — Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 KB931125 — Microsoft Root Certificates (December 2012) KB971029 — AutoPlay KB2492386 - Application Compatibility update (April 2011) KB925066 — Volume Shadow Copy KB936357 — Update.sys driver KB942288 — Windows Installer 4.5 KB944043 — Windows 2008 read-only domain controller compatibility pack KB955417 — Protected Storage KB955704 — exFAT File System KB960680 — Currency symbol update KB971314 — Spooler Setup INF KB982316 — Windows Telephony Server KB2264107 - NT Layer DLL and WebDAV Mini-Redirector KB2598845 - Compatibility View list update (October 25, 2011) KB2661254 - Crypto API32 KB2758694 - Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 SP3 KB2758696 - Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 SP2
  16. I analyzed your list, there are 2 hotfixes not added to your list but included on 5eraph's pack, should I add them?: KB967715 — Windows Shell (AutoRun enforcement) KB2510581 - JScript and VBScript Scripting Engines v5.7 Then, there are a bunch you added and not present on 5eraph's list, which makes me wonder because both lists are called as high priority only: WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB982316-x64-ENU.exe - Telephony Application Programming Interface (TAPI) WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB971314-x64-ENU.exe - PCL Inbox Printer Drivers WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB971029-x64-ENU.exe - Block AutoPlay on USB media WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB967723-x64-ENU.exe - TCP/IP WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB960803-x64-ENU.exe - Windows HTTP Services WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB960680-v2-x64-ENU.exe - Currency Symbols WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB956802-x64-ENU.exe - Graphics Device Interface (GDI) WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB955704-x64-ENU.exe - exFAT file system WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB955417-x64-ENU.exe - Don't trust the French with your secrets WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB952004-x64-ENU.exe - Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB950974-x64-ENU.exe - Event System WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB950762-x64-ENU.exe - Pragmatic General Multicast (PGM) WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB944043-v5-x64-ENU.exe - Server 2008 compatibility pack WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB936357-x64-ENU.exe - Intel CPU update, no effect on AMD CPUs WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB925876-v2-x64-ENU.exe - Remote Desktop Connection (Terminal Services Client 6.0) WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB925066-x64-ENU.exe - Distributed File System (DFS) WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2794119-x64-ENU.exe - Time Zone - Cumulative WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2661254-x64-ENU.exe - Minimum Certificate Key Length WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2509553-x64-ENU.exe - DNS Resolution WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2506212-x64-ENU.exe - Fax Cover Page Editor WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2492386-x64-ENU.exe - Application Compatibility Update WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2478960-x64-ENU.exe - Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2360937-x64-ENU.exe - Local Procedure Call WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2347290-x64-ENU.exe - Print Spooler Service WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2264107-x64-ENU.exe - External Libraries Load Control WindowsServer2003-KB942288-v4-x64.exe - Windows Installer 4.5 Windows-KB943729-x64-ENU.exe - Group Policy Preference Client Side Extensions msxml6-KB2758696-enu-amd64.exe - Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 SP2 msxml4-KB2758694-enu.exe - Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 SP3 IMAPI_SRV2003_x64.exe - Blu-Ray image mastering support
  17. Only a question, are all the listed hotfixes critical? edit: sorry, high priority onwards right?
  18. I think I got a hint of the causes of the first issue with .NET Framework. I got to know of it by chance, it happens to be that after .NET installation hotfixes and assemblies keep compiling in background, first GDR, then LDR hotfixes. it's when LDR (I guess) hotfixes when I get those warnings and errors on Event Viewer. I knew that in order to prevent background procesing I should execute ngen.exe and do all the hotfixes GDR and LDR at one shot just after .NET install, so there's not interruption or possible conflicts with other components. I run it like this: start /wait ngen.exe ExecuteQueuedItems /nologo /silent start /wait ngen.exe Update /nologo /silent is it correct (order, flags)? what I get afterwards are not very promising logs, since it is waaaaaaay over my head, I post them here in case you can help to know what's happening. Mind you that this is a fresh WindowsXP install, so there shouldn't be any errors as far as I'm concerned. ngen.exe logs
  19. I want to know if it is correct this reg for removing a Language Keyboard, in Spanish by default we get "Español (alfabetización Tradicional) along Español (alfabetización Internacional) which is the correct one. I don't need both so I want to remove the former: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload] "2"="0000040a" It seems to work from my tests on VM, but a RegShot showed more changes that I'm unsure I would need? I don't want to leave open regs or whatever. edit: my bad, it should be [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload] "2"=-
  20. Thanks a ton, for real. That's a world apart from my reach, I even didn't know the /x switch lol ENU and ESN builds happened to be the same, did the thing and worked. Now I'm ready to wrap my unattended and burn, let it rest and maybe give it a look back again in 2014, when XP support is over. Thank you.
  21. woow awesome find! yes I'm on ESN. How I am supposed to copy .cat files only? Do I need to download the ENU build, and take from there?
  22. Because I recently had a similar problem I also tested that (file integrity) but the file it's ok. And tested on a clean XP SP3 Pro Install as well. If I type msiexec -h I get a dialog and a the top "Windows Installer v.4.5.6001.22159", but the log and qfecheck report it as faulty, is there another way to check? Anyway, it seems that the three relevant files MSISIP.DLL, MSI.DLL, and MSIHND.DLL are successfully copied to system32, checked properties and they are v.4.5.
  23. where do I download qfecheck from for x64? i just installed WindowsServer2003-KB942288-v4-x64.exe (my current OS is XP x64 too, for the sake of comparing both installers)
  24. Yes. You don't have issues with kb942288-v3? It seems to be faulty rather than me being the problem, but I don't know that's why I ask.
