  1. Happy birthday XP, using it up to this day and many more to come. it just WORKS! it's a charm to work with, no whistles, no odds, no aero, just the OS and you, I love it. These past days I was having a look at 7 FIle Explorer to see if I could remotely adapt to it in a remote future, and found out that it's crap sticked to its core, no customizability possible (without installing 3rd tools), no way I'm gonna change.
  2. I remember I once found a how-to on google, so I just did and forgot. Until recently that I saw MSN auto-login again. So I'm thinking it has to do more with a deleted cookie. I think this specific setting stores inside a cookie, and when I do a PC deep clean (once a month) it gets cleared. I have saved a few hotmail cookies from being cleared on CCleaner, but it seems they are not the ones that store this information.
  3. Very self explanatory, whenever I login to hotmail, the built in web Windows Live Messenger auto logs in. How can I turn this off? I'm using Firefox but didn't find anything on the web on how to do this.
  4. I changed ISP and the wifi is SO MUCH BETTER. Still, it got one or two disconnections in the first few days, but since then and during 3 weeks no drops, so what I can get from it is that the old router stressed my wifi card too much than it caused to overheat and reset. That's the only thing I can think of.
  5. With the help of the TwoJ pack I downloaded the ESN (Spanish) hotfixes. I divided it in folders because one normally won't install all the programs (e.g. I actually only install Word). So for example in my case all I would need to do is put "Office 2003" folder hotfixes and "Word" folder hotfixes in the same folder, put there also the .bat file and double click for installation. Hope this helps some people as I spent the few last days just for doing this same thing. Cheers! Office 2003 (Post-SP3 Hotfixes) ESN edit: updated to latest hotfixes
  6. are you suggesting that I don't speak any non-western language? otherwise your sentence is totally out of context. FYI It does exist in Japanese. BTW you can throw all the absurd links you want, without coherent reasoning they're just cheap excuses, cheap demagogy (as called in Spanish)
  7. submix8c, I don't debate to win or lose, that's very primitive thinking. I do for being understood, (not the same as agreed). "...SPECIFIC suggestion was correct..." "Playing the "semantics" game" No, "among others" is not an expression tied exclusively to English. It does exists in the 3 languages I talk, so rather than semantics is about logical thinking, common sense superpower, we all have, we all use, just that for some is not the most common of the senses, that's all. And now that you submix8c are in and twisted memmes start to substitute conversation I'm out. This starts to smell like a bullying fest.
  8. hahahaa, are you joking? faith is in the opposite position of what you relate on the winzip line. They are a company and just conveniently lying to you to sell a product, it's you who must or not have faith towards them. I naturally don't. Wikipedia is not made of statements, is made of (statements alike) opinions, made out of (statements alike) opinions, made out of (statements alike) opinions... Or do you really think maths ever existed? It's fantasy man. You can't tell something is true if somebody made it, because you (as a human too) can unmake it if you want, or reinterpret it. Nothing is steady, everything is subjective, but still you need to ground on something, so believe, but be aware nothing is 100% sure, even that thing you try to look for and don't find. Just believe according to the hints and trusting guides ridden by your common sense, because there's nothing else.
  9. I just want to say that there is nothing such as black or white, it's just shades of grey. And sometimes your eyes can't even see if one grey tone is lighter than another. There are methods to try to play it safer and test (with also shades of greys accuracy) that one color is lighter than another. At the end you have a likely, a founded opinion, but never a statement. With this being said, if you are going to turn down everything because lack of evidence or proof, then things are gonna be really tough for you, because living is an act of faith. When I visit wikipedia, rest assured I don't check every one of the references to know whether it's correct, I assume it's very likely to be correct and get going. Finally I don't think you are being true to yourself, you are just trying to justify a forced position in an awkward way in order to don't agree with me. Because everything said by everybody can't be certain, thus statements hardly exists. As I do with wikipedia, assume its implicit subjectivity and get going. It seems to work.
  10. gzip is too short and unpeculiar to be fooled. If you still wonder, go to bing, or yahoo. I wouldn't call the official webpage traffic as an accurate evidence of popularity compared to search engines. By no means actually, it's like determining Call of Duty popularity by it's webpage traffic. I am not sure to get the double negation I already told you, first English is not my mother tongue, second, by only being a native English speaker doesn't mean you can understand me any better if you lack the "reading" component of communication. By your words you also seem to lack that component since for the given context it clearly reads; Nothing is absolute. After having you read this little explanation let me tell you that you are not cooler by playing dumb, I can "read" you being cynical. Opinions are free . Statements should be IMHO however backed up by some substantial data. Again I already told you, no such things as statements do exist, not even this line, maybe is a bit hard for you to understand if you don't open more your mind.
  11. "WinRar" 77,400,000 results "7-Zip" 15,800,000 results I don't think your linked page has nothing to do with this. Anything in this life is absolute, it's just an indication. But if you still want to think that blue is a hot, passionate color, that's fine with me.
  12. Anything I say is a statement, at most a statement alike opinion. Statements are illusions of individuals who think to own a truth, but that's only my opinion, it's how languages work. Anyways, isn't google proof enough (without declare it a statement)? BTW language is not something you can explain or demonstrate like in science, it's hard to explain why blue is a relaxing color, while red is a hot, passionate color, but everyone agrees to that for reasons human beings can't yet explain. I'm not going to write a thesis on how everything I say has an evidential proof when it is assumed that human beings have a sense we usually call common sense and refer to the above things, it's like trying to demonstrate the obvious, or let's call it plausible. I'm not saying that what you said was wrong, it's just that don't expect everyone to think things you already know. That's why despite how much knowledge an individual could own about something, being a teacher is another different matter, you need an empathic sense of what the pupil might or not think, reverse thinking, that is. and at last: what do you understand by "like" here? whatever? or something alike? English isn't either my mother tongue, actually I barely talk it nice, but languages are more similar than one might expect (I talk a 3rd language too).
  13. We are basically discussing the nuances of language communication here. To demonstrate that using a file archiver* "among others" is capable of doing a determined action, it's implicitly a suggestion of using that tool or one among the same kind. At least at the eyes of whoever is asking which (kind of) tool to use. Because if otherwise with "among others" you referred to among ALL THE APPLICATION EVER MADE FOR ANY KIND, then you are being very mean and vague with the expression, in which case you would have better omitted those unnecessary and unhelpful words that only create confusion. You don't have to be very clever to assume winrar is the most popular. There's where the "reading" part of communication comes from. Just google them to have an approx. idea. *head to http://www.7-zip.org/ and read the very first sentence at the top.
  14. You are again ignoring the influence weight of each of the options (assuming even importance). Which leads to the next paragraph: Sure , so it is reading and interacting with people, some are more capable than others at it. That's basically the same I said, talking ability is a communication (interaction if you like it) skill. Well, noone (if not you) talked about Winrar, since you were able to suppose that Winrar would do the same as 7-zip, you made a wrong guess, that's all. Obvious now, a wrong guess, but totally natural guess. You suggested me a file archiver, I used "among others" file archiver (the most popular actually). Had you suggested a strict ISO application, I'd had used one.
  15. There's a big difference between: (and El Torito floppy emulation images can be easily extracted from .iso with 7-zip among other tools). and (and El Torito floppy emulation images can be easily extracted from .iso with 7-zip). Adding "among other tools" lessen the importance of using 7-zip, which just equals or put it lower on the importance list than for example winzip, or winrar which are WAY more popular, used, known, and famous (thus likely to be used) The second line is a straight how-to that doesn't assure succes if you use tools aside those specified. Talking (or writing) is an art way different than the subject dealing with. Valid info WAS given in an unhelpful way. I, whenever I help, I DO help, straight to the user's needs, not way more (to show off or create confusion) or way less (to make fun in an pseudo-(low-social)-intellectual fashion). Anyway, most of the wasted time was related to seatools, the thing with dlgdiag was only today. edit: @jaclaz: and why should I suppose that winrar is only capable of opening half-isos? It's like asking to open .zip files with winzip instead of winrar... As good as 7-zip is, it's not very convenient to use for daily usage, I have it as portable only. There's a misconception in applications that if something is free and deliver good results then it must be used. You know, you ignore things like speed or convenience...
  16. Everything is solved you don't need to come back to show how right you were, after all I managed to do it by reading other posts (it wasn't THAT complex as you said and made it look) and lastly cdob's help, and well a waste of 2 days. So thanks a lot for being around while having the answers although ultimately decided to look at how funny is to joke and make fun of someone struggling for an answer during 2 days. among other what kind of tool? because I use a very similar and extended one (Winrar) and you know, it happens to don't find that right away. Why not use 7-zip? Why yes? I wonder... ups, yes sorry, I didn't understand that line. ...and overlooked this one : It's not my fault if after 2 days I'm a bit dull and couldn't read "7-zip lists it at [bOOT] directory", it could have made a change. No pun to cdob whom I'm grateful for.
  17. ups, yes sorry, I didn't understand that line. Thanks a bunch really. By inspecting the ISO through Winrar I never thought there was anything else hidden (BOOT folder) inside. Right now also checked with uniextract and could also retrieve the folder. Thanks again.
  18. Anything I can try? I'm out of ideas...
  19. I don't know if I created the plugin. I just followed one of the linked tutorials. Extracted seatools.ima and added to the z_custom folder. Then added the line to custom_bcdw.ini, and enabled z_custom plugin in the plugins section. There's no floppy image in WD Diag504fCD.iso, these are the contained files: DLGDIAG.txt DLGDIAG5.EXE DLGLICE.TXT IBMBIO.COM IBMDOS.COM
  20. Yeah, well, unless I'm going to ask too much about something I try to refrain myself from registering on too many sites. Anyways I successfully managed to implement seatools in the boot menu, tested over VirtualBox. Now, as you can imagine I'm struggling at the next thing, implementing DLGDiag.exe into the boot menu, the Western Digital Diagnostic Tools for DOS. I guess I need to obtain the .img or .ima file, and that's when I stumbled over another thread of yours: http://reboot.pro/12255/page__st__50 A bit hard to understand, what I did was to follow this guide: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=579 I made a virtual floppy drive, placed DLGDiagv519.exe in it, and then used winimage to create an image of the floppy. Then just proceeded as I did with seatools. But it didn't work, when I run DLGDiag on the boot menu, it freezes.
  21. Well, I will ignore your offtopic chitchat and continue with my research journey since no one seems to want to help. I found this link. Basically I need to know what type of menu is UBCD4Win running, and then edit the file to point to (a special or not version of) seatools. My guess is that I need to edit some kind of bcdw file, I will search to one containing the menu items. edit: this is getting better. link. The file was indeed custom_bcdw.ini
  22. : \ it certainly puts me down a little. I will do a few more dozen searchs and reads tomorrow and see what I get. UBCD4Win has many useful things that might come handy (like restoring HDD data, on NTFS, etc), there comes my switch of interest from the initial question. Thanks nevertheless
  23. They looked very similar to me, you start on a DOS menu, where you can see a few related things (memtest for example), its just that UBCD4Win has en extra entry that takes you to a windows looking environment where you can run EVEN more diagnostic (and not so diagnostic) tools. UBCD3Win does what Ultimate Boot CD does and MUCH more. About the rest, helping with such an amount of cynicism isn't even necessary, yes I'm a noob at DOS, programming and such, but I'm a master at CG or Video Filtering and yet I don't need to talk down the way you do. You just have a different perception of what's going on, I haven't been rude as you are in any moment. Mind you that if I ignored your answer I would have never known about UBCD4WIN. That all hints lead to make me think that there was too much linux on my head is not my fault, I function by common sense, calling "whatever linux" tools for non linux environment isn't exactly something I would call common sense. Long way to say you don't know how, without saying it. What I wanted yesterday, before your first post, not today. Greedy? nah, human nature... Certainly there are things I just want to get working and wrap because I'm not interested enough to learn all the ins and outs. Call it batch coding, autohotkey coding, html, javascript, css and the likes, etc (you see I like trying many things). I had to learn some by myself, but when got stuck I had to ask, could I get along without asking? Sure, but it would take me 10 more times to get to the same place for something I'm not really fond of. If you ever stuck at Photoshop, Maya, or Avisynth for a given task, don't worry, you can ask to me. That's what forums are for, asking-sharing, not complaining on people questions.
  24. jaclaz, sorry this isn't something I know about, or to examine about, all I was asking was a bit of help/guidance. It all began wondering if I could just have seatools and memtest in one CD, and then it ended up with UBCD4WIN, which is something else (not different I'd say) edit: you started talking about syslinux and isolinux... and then on the link you proposed to me it clearly says "For those of you interested in a Windows version of the Ultimate Boot CD...", after all this it isn't so rare that the first impression I got was you offering me linux solutions. Yes, despite my profile shows XP Pro x86, but who knows... I never talked about any OS. I'm a noob and admit it, I was asking for having 2 boot applications in one CD, now that you explained to me, why not have plenty? At this stage, I'm just looking for a way to add the Seatools to UBCD4WIN, build the ISO and test.
  25. Yes, I realised and explained in the edit, well, now that I'm practically done with this I just want to substitute seatools and wrap up, so much confusion is getting me very nervious lol edit: not specially interested prolly at this point but isn't Ultimate boot CD for linux?
