  1. Start > Search > *(2).* will show all files with (2) in it- be careful not to delete files you need- chk the path. Recycle Bin your "safety net" until you are OK to perm delete (in other words- no errors). HTH- you probably have quite a few of those *(2).* files... don't know an automated proggy for that if that's what you're asking? I think I would just do it manually just in case.
  2. Do a search for *(2).dll...? Compare the dates before deletion- send to recycle bin until you're sure you don't need them.
  3. Look at the date- 4/23/05 (9:20pm) - was it in their possession or yours at that time? It's definitely the Intel ICH5 drivers being installed.
  4. an interesting read: Use Win2K NetBEUI in XP
  5. Isn't that what NetBEUI/NetBIOS is all about? I used to be able to do this, but after disabling NetBIOS over TCP I now have to use machine IP addresses. I can't remember...
  6. You can backup the wpa.dbl file and restore it.... found at \System32 This is MACHINE SPECIFIC, which means it will only work for that machine! **Keep in mind this technique allows you only to reinstall XP on the same computer - it isn’t a hack to pirate the OS! Since you’re using the exact copy of XP that was previously installed the original Wpa.dbl will be accepted and you won’t have to go through all the hassle of re-activation.
  7. SpywareBlaster 3.4 is out... need to update your TechCD. edit: nvm- I see you have v3.4 at your website (nice site, btw)
  8. can this be used? Repair Console Bootable ISO How to install and use the Recovery Console (MS site)
  9. 5110 files have patience- someone here can help you more than I can with this. I'm sure it's been discussed and remedied by someone. Some pretty smart ppl here.
  10. If you're not willing to check them, and we don't have access to them, what are we supposed to do about it?? I'm not trying to be rude...... *edit your XP key out of your WINNT.sif.
  11. take a look here: MSDN site Can't tell you much more, but maybe that will get you started. Google PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED for more. *EDIT- OK, I see you've posted this under Multiboot CD/DVDs also... Double post
  12. did the VM network connections get removed? how about the VMWare network adapters in Device Manager? how about in services: *VMware Authorization Service *VMware DHCP Service *VMware NAT Service
  13. do you mean you copied over to: C:\Documents and Settings\*USERNAME*\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook if so, try renaming it to outlook.pst and start Outlook. just a thought, unless you already tried renaming it to the default (outlook.pst - small "o"). *woops- I'm using Off 2K- sorry if this doesn't apply to 2k3... one more cup of coffee and I should be OK.
  14. have you seen this: Large HOSTS file in 2000/XP starting at
  15. shouldn't that be TimeZone=035 that's what mine is, anyway
  16. for Outlook 2003, how about this: from MS a description of the above: Spam Filter Info also: Spamihilator (freeware) SpamPal (freeware) Spam Inspector from MS' new aquisition, Giant Software (shareware) *I have not used any of the above, but I see these mentioned in different forums a lot. Except the top link...... saw that on Softpedia site. HTH
  17. just a stab at this- try "Method 3" at this link (towards bottom) ASMS *possibly even "Method 1"? I seem to recall a similar issue addressed here at MSFN having to do w/Method 1.
  18. try simple things first- *re-install mobo drivers (specifically IDE controller) sounds like the IDE controller is going bad *replace the HDD data cable *check your CMOS battery *turn on/off PnP OS in BIOS
  19. from my winnt.sif: [Unattended] UnattendMode = FullUnattended UnattendSwitch = Yes OemPreinstall = Yes OemSkipEula = Yes FileSystem = * WaitForReboot = No NoWaitAfterTextMode = 1 NoWaitAfterGUIMode = 1 TargetPath = \WINNT DriverSigningPolicy = Ignore NonDriverSigningPolicy = Ignore Hibernation = No maybe the UnattendSwitch = Yes (?)
  20. thx, Alanoll- I was just doing a search on that, was thinking he should try ResHacker or ResourceTuner. ResEdit's site says "Edit and insert String tables for multiple languages", but it doesn't seem to fully work, or not as many languages supported?? I dunno- I use all 3 for experimental and learning (and learning, and learning, and learning) ps- searching in MSFN gets me soooooo side-tracked. Many interesting topics: so much to learn!
  21. can't help ya there, although somewhere on this site I saw a mention of someone having issues w/French characters (?- or some other language other than English)- I believe a solution was found, but can't recall, and I can't remember the title of the topic. Not much help, was I? sorry
  22. Astalavista's instructions "follow the pretty pictures"- 2nd post in thread
