Windows Server 2003 Activation Hack
k0pect8 replied to Bad boy Warrior's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
This is for XP- may work w/2k3?? (I don't know) Backup Windows Product Activation (WPA) Information about the current activation is stored in an encrypted database file named Wpa.dbl, which you can backup and then restore once you've reinstalled XP. Keep in mind this technique allows you only to reinstall XP on the same computer - it isn’t a hack to pirate the OS! Since you’re using the exact copy of XP that was previously installed the original Wpa.dbl will be accepted and you won’t have to go through all the hassle of re-activation. Edited to add code tags. -
I agree with Zxian.

Setup Backgrounds look terrible...
k0pect8 replied to BatmaN91's topic in Setup Billboard Screens for Windows
Save it with 24-bit colors- sounds like you're saving it at 8-bit/256 colors. HTH *you don't have to edit- you can just replace the bmp with another. bitmap00103 is 1024x768 (default 8-bit/256 colors) bitmap00153 is 800x600 (default 4-bit/16 colors) -

Google for: killCMOS: Great little utility to get rid of those forgotten passwords keeping the CMOS protected. Be sure read the documents in this file, as it resets all settings in the CMOS to defaults... *Special Note: KillCMOS will be detected by most anti-virus software as containing a virus, since KillCMOS's primary function is exactly like a virus. Please note that the file is completely safe and Contains NO VIRUS!!! CMOSpwd: CmosPwd is a CMOS BIOS password recovery tool. It works with the following BIOS types: *ACER/IBM BIOS *AMI BIOS *AMI WinBIOS 2.5 *Award 4.5x *Compaq (1992) *Compaq (New version) *Bios DELL version A08, 1993 *IBM (PS/2, Activa) *Packard Bell *Phoenix 1.00.09.AC0 (1994) *Phoenix 1.04 *Phoenix 1.10 A03/Dell GXi *Phoenix 4 release 6 (User) *Toshiba *Zenith AMI Editors note: If you're new to this, download your latest BIOS so you can flash it in case of an error. You also want to find in your manual how to reset the CMOS. Typically, its as simple as moving a jumper from one position then back. BIOS 1.35.1: Author's note- If you want a newer version of my software look at: www.geocities.com/mbockelkamp BIOS allows you to save, delete, and restore your BIOS settings. The program displays information about your BIOS, including BIOS extensions and beep codes; lets you find the BIOS passwords (Award and Ami); and discover the Award BIOS universal passwords. In addition, you can: *Switch the first and second level caches on or off, and turn off your PC (requires APM 1.2 or later). *Display information about the BIOS, BIOS Extensions and BIOS beepcodes *Find BIOS passwords for Award, Ami, Phoenix and AST BIOS *Find BIOS universal passwords for Award BIOS *Dump the whole BIOS segment to disk *And more....

hmmm... 2 of the computers here with no problems (SP1 and SP2) have that configuration, the other 2 (both SP2) don't. I'll check this tomorrow- it's late where I am, must sleep now. @durex Master Browser I was led to this page during a Google search of this problem and remembered that I saw this on a friend's computer recently, need to ask him some ??'s. Then again, I think he was running W2K. Can't remember. *edit- yes, he's on W2k.

reg file: insert desired text between ""

lol- just a guess- I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the Master Browser (not IE)? Is that related to NetBT (NetBIOS over TCP/IP)? e.g. master browser not "refreshing" like it should? I dunno-

NetBIOS simple explanation short- 1 page It's my understanding that NetBIOS/NetBEUI is what Windows uses to give a PC a name in a LAN via Network Neighborhood and My Network. From the above link I also have a book somewhere around here that explains more in depth of how Windows uses NetBIOS/NetBEUI, I'll try to locate it if I can. Using an original CD, Windows installs w/NetBEUI over TCP/IP by default, and when I disabled over TCP/IP, I could no longer use computernames in Explorer address bar, only IP addresses. Even with my Win2K Server having it enabled it wouldn't work, from the server to my personal XP (Pro SP1a) PC. That's because there was no name configured for my XP machine via NetB/B, and no NetBIOS running. Same for another PC here with XPPro SP2 fully patched. Another thing, in my previous post, there's a link to follow that tells of using the NetBIOS from Win2K in XP, stating that W2K NetB/B is better, even confirmed by a Microsoft employee. Very interesting read, btw. I think that may also be why when adding a networked printer I have to enter the server IP address and printer name manually, as it won't show up in "Browse for printer.." because there's no 'computername' available. i.e. \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\printername *I have NetBEUI disabled but File/Print sharing enabled (for the printer).
