  1. Can the file association be done after the application installation, or is it overall disabled? I wonder what dreams did the Microsoft engineers see before starting the Windows 8 construction.....
  2. Do these interesting apps, like the one above described, let you use Windows 8 by "disabling" the Metro UI from the start screen completely? Microsoft should know that it's stupid to change a recipe that is successfull.
  3. WIndows 8 will be a double failure for Microsft. Since the mobile phones war is lost, 2 battles remain. The Tablets battle and the Desktop battle. The first one is already lost. I don't beleive that Windows 8 is capable of punching Android or iOS Tablets. No way. Secondly. Windows users will stick to Windows XP and WIndows 7. WIndows 8 will be the black sheep of Microsoft like Windows Millenium and Vista were. Microsoft wanted to put all devices under one roof. Tablets, mobile phones, XBOX, Desktops/Laptops. The result of this target is an OS which is not even as user friendly as Vista. The Linux community and Apple will be so happy when WIndows 8 will be released....
  4. Another good one and simple too with good speeds which I use is UppIt.com. http://uppit.com/
  5. Hello Problemchyld! What an excellent work! Respect! I have a small question regarding added updates. Which is the reason for not adding NET Framework and DirectX 9.0 in the Service Pack? Both of them would be considered as major update components for Windows 98. Plain curiosity. No intention to make yoy change your update scedule.
  6. Thank you Problemchyld! Great work!
  7. A complete up to date Windows Millenium service Pack would be nice. Also intensive support for Windows 95-98 in general. But if I want to be honest, everything is already fine, great support, great projects! Here is the home of the Windows 9x user.
  8. Merry Christmas to everybody! I wish you all the best and especially health!
  9. It is amazing how good this Patch is. If you use a CPU with latest Virtualization technologies and enable them on a virtual Windows 95 system (Virtualbox and VMware) the system just rocks! It runs so smoothly and good, it blows your mind away. B) Really exciting! It's so solid you can't even recognise that this is a virtual system!
  10. Yeah! Problemchyld! B) Go ahead and do it! We will definetly use this one! And a comment: Windows 9x crowd is not turning smaller every day! Or maybe it is, but only when speaking of native usage of these OSes on actual computers. I use virtually WIndows 9x and I am sure there are many people out there who are doing the same. My virtually created Windows 9x on Virtualbox don't even have a significant performance difference compared to a native system. I am very impressed and happy about that. A good Windows Me Service Pack is what the WIndows 9x community is missing at the moment. And you are the man to make it happen!
  11. An addition of Maximum's USB Drivers (especially the latest) Version wouldn't be such a bad idea I think. It suits to a service pack.It heps the system be more "complete". Yet if or not included this will be the best and most up to date WIndows 98 Service Pack.
  12. Should first be removed the older installed version or can the new one be installed above the older one? The new version is really great news! B)
  13. I have downloaded the updates from MS Download Center. The entire collections.Maybe i missed a couple they were too many.lol. But i would say that the collection is complete. A Win9x patch for all 9x Windows containing all official and latest unofficial updates would be the best think to do.Time and work are needed.
  14. OK then! I would upload them if someone would be interested in creating installers. These are the final updates, since there aren't new official updates to see in the future. I will upload them as soon as possible.
  15. Ι have downloaded all the updates from the microsoft update site. For Windows 95,98 and Me. Shall I upload them? I think they are all of them, not sure if I missed 1-2 but pretty sure that I downloaded them all. A windows 95,98, ME update installer would solve this problem!
  16. These OSes might not be officially supported BUT they are unofficially supported AND they will be always alive thanks to the existence of the Virtual Machine apps. There are thousands of games and applications out there which can not be so easy ignored. And the virtual systems, via Virtualbox or Virtual PC etc. are not quite "Virtual". They use system resourses and devices of the actual system, which are just "transormed" for the old OS needs. So you could say that they are as much "actual" systems as "virtual".
  17. I downloaded and zipped all the updates for Windows 95-98-Me. I don't know if I missed 1-2 of them (they weren't few), but I guess this wouldn't be any problem at all. I downloaded them from Microsoft Download center, using the links described above. Having those and the patches which are available and contain most of the updates i think there shouldn't be any worries about the future, if somebody would like to setup a normal or a virtual Windows 9x. machine.
  18. At least there are AC97 Drivers for Windows 95 available.
  19. I noticed it too when I tried to visit the Windows 95 Update section. The last time I visited it was a couple of Months ago and it was ok. Maybe there is something wrong with it and will be fixed. Maybe it is off for good, who knows. In any case, thank God there are all these patches available containing the official and unofficial updates. And something else. When there is an action a reaction follows. So If Microsoft turned off Windows 9x updates then there will be soon (I hope) another way for having access to the updates.
  20. I didn't see it mentioned above, hopeffulle i didn't miss a post about it, so I will mention here what I use. I use "DEFRAG TO SHUTDOWN". Which is a little program that launches the built in scandisc and defrag programs of Windows 9x. adding new features like "full defragmentation and optimization", "disable screensaver", "reboot or shutdown after defrag" etc. It's freeware and I am very satisfied with it. It can be used in all Win 9x. Versions (95-98-Me). http://medlem.spray.se/mokkelmannen/
  21. Thank you for the interest! It's very nice to talk about old Windows software. I have tha same version of Windows like you! That's right, Virtual PC and VMWare do not show the same behavior. I searched in Virtualbox and found a solution workaround. Renaming the hsflop.pdr updated driver or disabling the floppy controller through save mode does somehow the trick. The A: Floppy reappears, the 4 additional floppys go away and just the Floppy Drive in Device manager appears with exclamation mark. Which means that it works and according to the Virtualbox forums it "can read, cannot write, VM does not crash". I did it (renamed the updated hsflpo.pdr) and it's indeed like that It's OK for the time being I guess. Here is the quotation of the Virtualbox Forum. Not bad I guess... B)
  22. I have a Virtual Windows 95 System, which I use in Virtualbox. I don't know if anyone has experience with Virtualbox, but Windows 95 runs great through it (after the correct set up of course). My host system has a built in USB internal multi card reader with 4-5 slots and a Floppy Drive. The Floppy Drive and each card reader slot can be mounted separatly as Floppy drives in Virtualbox but there is also a generic usb device in the USB connection optons (I suppose it indicates the whole device which is attachet to the usb motherboard port). So far so good? OK. When I add a Floppy Controller and a floppy Drive to my WIndows 95 Virtual Machine through the Virtualbox settings, even though it is empty (no Floppy Image mounted or actual floppy to my Floppy A:/) in "my computer" in Windows 95 I see the A:/ Floppy as usual. After I installed the Win95 CPU Fix Patch my system instead of seeing an "A:/ Floppy Drive" sees as Floppy Drives the seperate card reader slots (!). In the device manager they are listed as "Nec Floppy Drives" in a "Disk Drives" section while in the normall "floppy drive" section is only the Floppy controller listed and not any A:/ floppy Drive as it should be. I know that this question can be answered from someone who has experience with Virtualbox, but I thought I would give it a try here too, since it is a Windows 95+ CPU fix issue. SO my question is as follows: Why does Windows 95 makes this change after the installation of the cpu fix patch? (By the way the patch did the trick and now Windows 95 runs great as if it were my host system and it is possible to use the Virtualisation features and CPU extentions of Virtualbox).
  23. Hello everybody! I am a new member from Greece and happy to be here. I have a Core 2 Quad Q6600/2.40 GHz, 8 GB RAM system with Windows 7x64 on it. I use Virtualbox to enjoy my old OS WIndows 95 (2.x) mainly for playing old classics on it but for other stuff too. I think that this Forum is the best information and know how source for Windows 9x so I think that I will have a nice time here with you Guys!
