  1. I think we have an answer to this stupid problem. Aresgodofwar - I too have the IR594 CD which explains why were having this problem. Check out: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/bo...essage.id=43165 Hopefully Dell will sort something out!!!!!
  2. I tried that - removed references from the txtsetup.sif file. I also did a search for any file containing usbehci.sys and deleted that reference too. On both occasions it gave me the error "usbohi.sys is corrupt". Guess that doesnt work either.
  3. I guess you have the answers of what you have to do. Just to add some info on PC World....... They do offer you a CD (or should do) however at the time many dont take it because you have to pay extra for it (i think around £90). Its usually the way many modern computer places work - so if one day your stuck or have a problem you probabaly have to call a premium rate number to get it fixed. If you dont have a CD then............I guess you get the idea. Back up your PC/ data as soon as you can.
  4. Try using the network installation if your slipstreaming. Heres the link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...p1/network.mspx
  5. Have a look at this link: http://www.houseofhelp.com/v3/showthread.p...goto=nextnewest not too sure if you have seen this before.
  6. ChunkDog-If you mean add the user's name to the dfrg.msc file whilst the user is on a limited account then ive already tried that and i still get the error "Only Administrators can defragment this drive". Thanks
  7. If your trying to say that you use the Uninstall Shield to uninstall a program and it doesnt let you then it may be damaged. Try this: Click Start > Run then type msiexec.exe /unregister and click OK. Click Start > Run then type msiexec.exe /regserver and click OK. Run the installation again. This should install the Windows Installer Service. Hope this helps
  8. I created a Limited account using the usual methods. I then created a MMC (Microsoft Management Console) for a Disk Defragmenter and assigned my limited account with FULL credentials (via the security option) so the program can be run. When i log onto the account and try to run the program it gives me the error that Defragmenter can only be run by the Administrators or Administrator group. I dont want to assign this user with admin rights, all i need is them to be limited to what they can do but one of the things they can do is defrag the drive. Any way of doing this? Thanks p.s. Im using Win XP Pro
  9. The $OEM$ folder contains files from the manufacturer to "customise" Windows (help icons, manufacturer logos) and to install additional files such as drivers. Deleting the folder could mean reactivation too as some Cds carry the reg link to activate windows so you dont need to call MS to activate it if you ever reinstalled the system.
  10. I guess this may be the wrong forum if so then sorry and if possible could the administrator place this into the correct forum. Thanks I have some videos saved as .wmv and .wma. I want to convert these into .vob files in order to view them on a DVD player for personal use or convert them into anything so i can view them on a DVD player. I also know the picture will not be 100% clear however that would not be a problem. Ive checked some programs but they dont seem to work. Could someone advise please. Thanks
  11. If i was to have two computers, one with Windows xp Pro and other with Windows server 2003, i could use the windows server to have all my files. Could i install programs that i hardly use on the server and run them through XP? How could i set up Visual Studio .Net with MSDN on the server and use it on XP? or how would you recommend doing this and finally could i set up a user account credentials on the server and assign them to a user on XP if so how could i do this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
  12. I was wondering what if i removed reference regarding the usbehci.sys file altogether? is this possible if so how would it be done? If i did this couldnt i download the missing file/ drivers from windows update? Im assuming the usbehci.sys is a driver file.
  13. Do you have Spyware Blaster installed? If yes, then there is the option to disable certain sites via there program. You will just need to undo the operation.
  14. And once youve deleted those files you may come up with an error message when trying to install - check this link IF you do http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=28193
  15. Have a look at this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;314063
  16. Ok i dont want XP and office illegally. So if this is an OEM thing as you described does it mean its not supported by Microsoft if not why are these people saying its perfectly legal. Sorry about the zillion questions but i need proper copies and not illegal - i dont want to be one of those people who buy something under the impression that its legal when it isnt.
  17. It isn't!!! well i wouldn't have thought so since the link was on THIS website on www.msfn.org where other cool links are too, i visited the website and they too said its not pirated all there disks were not boxed and without manuals, they buy them in bulks or something.
  18. There was a link on the main page to a site which allowed us to buy legit software for a very cheap price. Something like office and Win XP for $80 because they were not boxed and no manuals were with it - does anyone still have that link? Thank you
  19. Nope that didnt work either. Anyone got any other ideas?
  20. At the moment i have copied my original usbehci.sys file from my driver folder on my system and copied it into the i386 directory aswell as the driver folder (once extracted). Im burning this soon and will post my results. Thanks
  21. People, I have setup a limited account and using other other tools ive created this account exactly the way i want it (i.e. what files this user can access, what drive is visible to them and what permissions they have on programs etc etc) Im thinking of reformatting my drive after the introduction of SP2, but i dont want to spend another 2 weeks configuring every setting again. Is there a way i can create a script file or something to save these settings for this user ONLY and use them after ive installed my op system? if so please advise also everytime i create a new account i want it to have my default settings everytime rather than the ones you normally have - is there a way to do this to so everytime i create an account they will automatically have the settings i set automatically? Thank you
  22. Are you using the same machine as you originally used when you first installed XP? Have you tried to activate your product via the phone and tell them you reformatted your drive?
  23. Well im using VPC and it doesn't give me the option to disable USB. Any other ideas???? Thanks
  24. Thanks people for the help. I checked http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=ST&f=34&t=25379 i opened up my DRIVER.cab file and the file usbehci.sys was not there. I then extracted the SYMBOLS cab file found in the SP2 CD and found usbehci.pdb.sys. Im not too sure but i copied this into the DRIVER.cab file and into the i386 directory (two copies of one file in sepreate folders). This still returned an error. Was i suppose to find usbehci.sys if so where is this located as i couldnt find this file? I am also using the trial version of ACD Zip to convert DRIVER folder back to a .cab file. Yes i used nLite but i also used the command interface to integrate the files and both gave me the same error. Would you not recommend using nLite? thanks for your help again people.
