i had to reformat, my hard drive, reinstall windows xp home but when i try to activate windows xp i get a error message that activation can't be completed at this time. is there a problem with the activation server, any ideas?

Is your internet connection working properly?

Are you using the same machine as you originally used when you first installed XP?

Have you tried to activate your product via the phone and tell them you reformatted your drive?

it seems to be working properly, it can dial into the activation server but it can't activae my copy of windows xp home which is a legal copy. what is causing this? service pack 2 is installed also.

I agree, it would be better to activate it by phone, you can get some extra info with your activation problem...

i activated windows xp by phone, it went well. i saved my activation key. thank you for helping me, take care.

i often saw that problem while trying to activate via dial-up internet.
