  1. This was 10 years ago. And again, what's a "Service Pack"? Who invented the word? You're trying to give us your own definition of what is is supposed to be when it's not. You do the same with "Operating System" Again, it's not a shame, it's how it was supposed to be. Please leave the OS separated from the applications so you get choice. When MS adds stuff... "it's bloat" , when they add IE it's even worse... they get fined! (And "Firefox is better anyway"). You complain 3rd party programs are better, why would we still want MS to add their own ? If Service Packs weren't about adding new features, Microsoft wouldn't try to add new features to a Service Pack, but they do. For example, the Windows Firewall. The problem is they don't know their own products. They don't know what to add. They don't know what to improve. They just guess wrong all the time. All Microsoft applications, from Calculator to Movie Maker, are very useful and popular apps. They should always come with the OS. The problem is they're too basic and aren't updated properly. According to your logic, Windows should just be an OS with no useful and popular Microsoft apps. We don't need 768 calculators. Just one calculator that does it all.
  2. I forgot to say MS Paint can't rotate an image in arbitrary values; only common degrees, like 90 and 180. IrfanView is free and it can rotate an image by any arbitrary number of degrees and tenths... But one should avoid repetitively rotating bitmaps, because it causes very fast quality degradation (see: Denis Roegel (2009), The eroding rotation: Why digital pictures should not be rotated)... Here is one case where testing, then clicking undo then testing a new value, until the best/correct value is reached is the best strategy. Oh, I have a terrific graphics-manipulation software that rotates an image to any degree. The point is I shouldn't need a much better third-party software to do something Microsoft software does so basically. Either do it right or not at all. And yes, since it's a bitmap, it's best to make one rotation to avoid degradation.
  3. 100% correct. Microsoft is all about goofy gimmicks that kill the desktop. We must stop them. Yes, but that is a paid product. I've known about that product for years. I'm not paying for a Microsoft band-aid, when I have real free reliable backup software. I forgot to say MS Paint can't rotate an image in arbitrary values; only common degrees, like 90 and 180. XP Service Pack 2 added a few nice changes, like the Windows Firewall, but so much more should've been added.
  4. ALG is required to use just the Windows Firewall.
  5. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/10/24/no_windows_7_sp2/ It's all part of Microsoft's forced-to-upgrade-to-Windows-8 plan.
  6. I edited my post because I don't want anybody else to think I'm big headed. I'm just being honest. The things I do with my computer do require a master level of software and hardware. I said that so people don't waste their time and thousands of dollars, only to face a wall they can't climb and be forced to buy Windows whatever. Sometimes sounding big headed is unavoidable, and I apologize to those it does.
  7. I am failing to see the impact I mean, once removed the whining and the "non-news", the cited declaration of intents is all that remains, with just three words: you could have conveyed the same message, and no, it is not an entirely new one jaclaz Uh, not only did I say MS sucks, but I gave very specific examples as to why they suck. Ever since Gates left and starting in 2005, Microsoft can do no right. XP isn't even that great of an OS. It's Microsoft's best effort, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal. You know it's bad when a 12-year-old OS is still your crowning achievement. I purchased an Xbox 360 in 2005 and may have played it five times. Games would freeze every 30 minutes. I performed one Dashboard update - followed all directions to the letter - and then the DVD drive started jamming for no good reason, and of course there was no rollback feature. I got so frustrated, I disconnected my Xbox 360 and put it back in the retail box. It had been sitting on the floor for 7 years. Earlier this year, I decided to set it back up, only to be reminded of how terrible the thing is. Then after many hours of arguing, Microsoft issued me a no-charge (which cost me $20 for packing tape and supplies) repair. The new console works fine so far, but if Microsoft made the thing right from the start, they would've saved billions of dollars and many customers. Oh, and Microsoft stopped sending free shipping supplies a few years ago, so you need to supply your own. And since you probably don't just have packing tape and packing peanuts lying around, expect to pay $20 + $90 to $110 for the repair. Microsoft is NOT a company you want to do business with.
  8. I'm scared for Windows' future.
  9. I've been doing that for years and my collection is almost complete. Just got a sweet 32 GB USB flash drive for just $30 bucks. It's the best you can get for USB 2.0, which is all I ever plan to use. ;^)
  10. I'm sorry, guys, but I have to say it. They weren't joking when they said simplify your life. Sounds like Windows 95 Third Edition to me. LMAO Just confirms everything I knew as soon as I heard Windows 8.
  11. Oh, a few of us can get it, alright. I just got it yesterday. I'm still laughing at how easy it is.
  12. I don't think that anyone needs so many cores at home But 4/8 cores are pretty common nowadays and there's really no reason not to use XP Home on such a system. LOL Kelse, you're funny. You don't even know your facts, but you're making technical references. The truth is XP Home supports 1 CPU with as many cores as the motherboard supports, and XP Pro supports up to 2 CPUs with as many cores as the motherboard supports. Tomas, I use XP Home with a single core CPU. A home user never needs more than 2 cores. It's all a gimmick. All multi-core means is the cores work together to get work done a little faster, but since most people use one, maybe two, apps at a time, it's never a problem.
  13. I couldn't care less about my post count. This isn't some geek popularity contest. But sorry, I pledge to post once a day? You obviously haven't read my earlier posts in this thread, because the whole point of this thread was to express how to build a Microsoft the whole world enjoys, not put them out of business. THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN TELLING YOU ABOUT MICROSOFT AND WINDOWS 8. Again, you're not listening. I NEVER want new hardware, I know all my future hardware limitations, and I am 100% happy with my AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Barton single core CPU. So happy, I have a backup in the closet. I'll say it once more. The world is happy with XP. I know all about 32-bit OS limitations and none of it hinders me. A 64-bit OS is just a gimmick.
  14. Yes but this particular case is kind of ridiculous. They keep releasing new updates for XP/2003 which require validation but you can't download them normally without using workarounds I let one of my MS contacts know about the issue. Hopefully, it'll be addressed soon. It's Microsoft. Give them six months. LOL
  15. Yup. Support? What support? I had to do all my own support. Igladash in India was of no help. He read from a script and lied when he couldn't find the answer. I have the entire Microsoft XP downloads server backed up, so they can delete until they're blue in the face. I will die at my computer and the coroner will find me hunched over an XP screensaver in 2050. LOL
  16. SERIOUSLY??? Service packs (With the exception of XP sp2) have NEVER been about that... Why would they do that? It is a SERVICE PACK not a FEATURE PACK.... Service packs, by definition, are service packs, If they did what you say they are supposed to then there would be no need for new OS's... You seem almost as full of yourself as the new heads of MS. p.s. there is a EDIT button. what you are doing is spamming..... I know there's an Edit button. I only use it all the time. Spamming? No spamming is distributing UNWANTED info. The people here really seem to want to hear this. What do you mean the new M$ heads are full of themselves?
  17. Xbox 720 games will cost $99.95 and the console will overheat in 10 minutes. It has a general life expectancy of 7 days. Maybe 10 if you cry while saying "I love you and spent $800. You can't die on me." LOL
  18. LOL Can I take a screenshot of this and send it to Microsoft?
  19. No contradictions here. Just raw supported facts and a totally brilliant but hypothetical business model for Windows. Well, enjoy Windows 8. Maybe they'll include 4D glasses and make you feel like you're upside down. LMFAO
  20. Most likely you're dealing with a failing or failed piece of hardware or overheating. You should take it to a local PC shop since you don't know what you're doing and could do more harm than good. Ask them to check if the CPU heat sink is properly installed and to try another PSU.
  21. Am I glad I met you, SeranoX. I'm in the minority when it comes to this stuff, but everything you said is true.

  22. Heck, Jorge, I'd pay $40 a year for a real XP Service Pack that corrects all the OS shortcomings.
  23. Thanks, guys. I appreciate the support. If all Windows users followed my lead, Windows would be pretty much perfect. I don't want to hate Microsoft. They're the lifeblood of computers. I want to love them, but they make it impossible. I know how business works. I want them to make a fortune, but it has to be fair, especially in these tough times. No more x10 price markups on products; x3 is more than fair. They need to understand a consumer is not a corporation and probably can't afford $200 for a new OS every few years. Are you listening, Adobe and your $700 Photoshop? Software should be free with optional paid yearly expansion packs. Not new versions that are incompatible with older file types or file-type versions. It's just all wrong. They say technology makes our lives easier. I say it makes them much harder and the learning curve is much too steep. People ask me all the time how can somebody know so much about technology if they don't like it. And I tell them I tolerate it because it's my life.
  24. Except use the secret. And don't blab that. I don't want a Microsoft employee to find it and crack down with a patch, as that's the only way to work around the issue. ;^) Thank god for this place and people like us. Without it, I would've stuck to outdoor activities.
