Thanks for the tip! TBH, I know almost all the alternative options. I personally use the VLC Youtube Shortcut extension in conjunction with the most recent VLC Player and the youtube.lua file. I have various YouTube Downloaders at my disposal. And I am a great fan of your youtube-dl and yt-dlp releases.

I also tested there my coming release uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31. No ads in either of the two YouTube videos. And this release also works flawlessly and without any issues in New Moon 28, Serpent 52 and Pale Moon 32.5.2. Under both versions 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 and 1.16.4.31, I don't see any ads in the Ad Blocker Test Video. It stays empty and black. Here is a screenshot with 76 ads blocked:

I know Youtube Downloader HD very well and use it for many years, too. YouTube in web browsers on old hardware is no longer a good idea. This site has gotten worse and worse from year to year. If I nevertheless want to watch a YT video directly in New Moon 28, I use the extension uTube or the service Invidious.

@nicolaasjan I did further tests. This time, I tested uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 in the most recent version 32.5.2 of Pale Moon under Windows 7 on a notebook. I cleaned the profile completely. I deleted all cookies, website settings, cache and so on. I removed all remnants of previous uBlock Origin Legacy installations. I can't see any ads in either of the two YouTube videos. Please, check if you use a completely clean profile and install my mod again! In any case, delete all cookies and settings related to YouTube! Especially the file ublock0.sqlite in the subfolder extension-data.

@VistaLover Can you please test the two YouTube videos from the quoted post above in terms of embedded ads under my new release uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 in New Moon or Serpent but with only the preselected, default filter lists and the region-specific one enabled? I don't see any ads in either of them but @nicolaasjan does. Thanks in advance!

Have you enabled the region and language-specific filter list NLD: Easylist Dutch? I always enable the filter list DEU: Easylist Germany. Yep! Good idea! Maybe, there are users of @roytam1's browser editions willing to test the two YouTube videos in terms of embedded ads under my new release uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 in New Moon or Serpent. I personally will ask here.

I don't see any ads in either of them. And both videos are tested by me with default lists in New Moon 28, too. As far as I can see, my fixed release uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 works fine here. But we need further tests and results from other users for confirmation purpose. As for PEBCAK, I wouldn't say you are a problem.

Can you please provide the YouTube link and a screenshot of the ads (maybe, you can outline all ads in red) you see by using uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 which is on the other hand successfully blocked by uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2? This would be very helpful for reproducing here. I personally had problems to find ads in your last provided YouTube link.

Thanks for your detailed feedback! The original idea for creating this build was to provide all filter lists from the webextension uBlock Origin in the extension uBlock Origin Legacy. That there are filter lists which are no longer fully compatible was expected. I just wanted to correct the version uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0. Any list which is not compatible shouldn't be enabled or should be disabled if not working properly. My next release will be an update version and mod of uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2 itself with all filter lists that have already been their plus the list "uBlock filters – Quick fixes". In general, it is no problem to implement any filter lists into the code or to remove them from the code.

Please re-download my corrected release of uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 from this post especially if you already downloaded the old one! Now, it is fully working again. -
Before releasing this new version, I have corrected my latest release uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 from this post: Now, it is fully working. No problems any longer when updating the filter lists. The new filter list "filters-2024.txt" is now inside the xpi file and can be retrieved correctly. Inside the xpi file, all filter lists have been replaced by the most recent ones to be more recent after installing without immediate updating. Additionally, I lowered the minVersion for Pale Moon from 28.0 to 27.0 to also install it in New Moon 27 which, for example, @roytam1 seems to use. Please re-download this corrected release from the linked post above especially if you already downloaded the old one! Please, test this special version and report here! I have just created a new mod of uBlock Origin Legacy. No copy and paste from the webextensions of uBlock Origin any longer due to incompatibilities. All filter lists can now be updated properly, at least there are no errors at the moment. I removed the self-update mechanism of the internal list which contain the default filter lists. I added the filter list "uBlock filters – Quick fixes" to the default ones. Both, the new filter list "filters-2024.txt" and the one from last year "filters-2023.txt" are now inside the xpi file and can be retrieved correctly. From now on, we will get the update of these filters, too. Furthermore, I solved the annoyance with the timestamp of some filter lists. Now, the timestamps are shown correctly. Inside the xpi file, all filter lists have been replaced by the most recent ones to be more recent after installing without immediate updating. I am now in testing mode. Cheers, AstroSkipper

I use https://curbengh.github.io/malware-filter/urlhaus-filter-online.txt and have removed the obsolete link from rhe code of the internal list. BTW, from now on, I try to avoid GitLab links if possible. GitLab causes errors (see the uBlock Logger) as they force the user to login into their account.

As for my mod uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0, it worked properly last year but the changes the uBlock admins have performed in terms of the year 2024 at the end of 2023 cause unfortunately some problems when updating the filter list "uBlock filters - Ads". I have to examine this issue more deeply the next days.

@nicolaasjan The original, untouched version uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2 performs again properly the updating process of its filter lists (including the list filters-2024.txt) except for the list "Online Malicious URL Blocklist". Did you also observe this error? In any case, I found the cause of this issue and had to also edit the code of this version to fix it.

I have revised my opinion a little, as the list is apparently still being updated despite the unrecognisable timestamp.

I have just tested this old, unmodified version uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2. Some important lists don't seem to be updated anymore. They have replaced the current timestamp of some lists by a variable %timestamp% to prevent that the old uBlock Origin Legacy extensions show out of date warnings. Here is a screenshot containing the first part of the legacy internal list with the title uBlock filters: Therefore, without any timestamp, the user is not able to judge whether the list is relatively up-to-date or not.

The predecessor of Bookmark Search Plus 2 from aaFn is Sidebar Bookmarks Search Plus from White Alice0775. This extension can be found in the Classic Add-ons Archive: caa:addon/sidebar-bookmarks-search-plus The last version is Sidebar Bookmarks Search Plus 2.0.1. You presumably have to adjust the maxVersion inside the install.rdf file. This extension is very old. So whether it is working in Serpent 52 or not, you will see then. I personally didn't test it. I have just investigated the last versions of the webextension uBlock Origin. The last version where the internal list is still compatible with uBlock Origin Legacy is definitely uBlock Origin 1.49.2. Starting with version 1.50.0, there are incompatible entries inside which lead, for example, to the "Annoyances" bug and which I had to remove in my latest mod uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0.

@nicolaasjan I will create another, fixed version of my previous mod uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.49.2 in the next few days and also offer here. The internal list inside that version was still compatible with uBlock Origin Legacy when I created it. So everyone can decide for themselves how up-to-date they want to be.

Yes, it is present there too but it points to the old internal list for uBlock Origin Legacy which is not updated since 2018. That is the reason you won't notice any changes of available filter lists in this version. Therefore, it works as long these filter lists still exist and are updated on a regular base. Just a reminder, the reason for creating modded versions of uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2 apart from initial display errors in the dashboard was the performance problems while updating the selected filter lists and to get the more recent filter lists which were only offered by the webextensions of uBlock Origin. @nicolaasjan If uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2 is sufficient for you and still working, use it! I will check this version once again the next days.

That is the reason you won't notice any changes of available filter lists in this version. Therefore, it works as long these filter lists still exist and are updated on a regular base. PS: That means patching the code for self-updating the internal list is not really necessary in the untouched version 1.16.4.31b2. It cannot get the most recent but incompatible list anyway.
