  1. Thanks for asking! As long as no new errors occur and everything is running well, there is no need to update. I'm travelling on so many fronts that my time needs to be well managed. Or is something not working? I can't see any serious problems at the moment. uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.35 is running fine here.
  2. I have to correct my statement a bit. Mypal 68.14.2b 32-bit in single-process mode installed with 23 extensions (7 of them disabled), 14 uc.js scripts, 13 css stylesheets and one open tab consumes only round about 180 MB after browser start. So, a bit less than New Moon 28.
  3. Websites which consumes extremely large amounts of RAM are immediately closed by me in New Moon 28 and opened in Mypal 68 or, more recently, also in Thorium. If that doesn't work very well either, it flies to my Android tablet, which can open all pages. This strategy works quite well, at least until now.
  4. I always have Process Hacker running in the background for many, many years. I regularly monitor my browsers in terms of RAM and CPU utilisation by Process Hacker's systray icons as a first measure. New Moon 28 32-bit, well configured and used appropriately, consumes the least RAM compared to other browsers. If I have a few extensions installed and only have one tab open, I am at around 200 MB after starting the browser. I think that's a good value compared to others. What is always problematic, with all browsers, is the release of RAM when tabs are unloaded or even closed. This always leads to additional consumption after prolonged use of the browser, which is actually unnecessary but has unfortunately never been solved by the developers (and by that I mean Mozilla in particular).
  5. My old Windows XP machine has 1.5 GB RAM only. And surfing the web works if you keep it simple. Tons of open tabs are not actually necessary, though. My browsers New Moon 28, Serpent 52, Mypal 68 and even Thorium rarely need more than 500 - 600 MB. Abnormal websites are fodder for my Android tablet. At the moment, I am using New Moon 28 with 74 extensions installed, 4 of them disabled, and only the MSFN website opened by a RAM usage of round about 400 MB.
  6. Thanks for the heads up!
  7. Those questions should be addressed to @feodor2, the developer of Mypal 68. You can do it in the Mypal 68 thread, on Codeberg.org or on GitHub.
  8. As far as I know, the codec of AVC1 or H.264 is the same, but the formalities of the file internally have different indicators. One is a raw stream, and the other is not.
  9. Try to load search plugins via the Wayback Machine which offers many copies of the Mycroft Project! Or, you use extensions to add search engines as, for example, the one I already described here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183657-mypal-68-in-windows-xp-custom-buttons-and-extensions/?do=findComment&comment=1254846 And you can add new search engines by clicking the green plus icon in the search bar only if the current website offers to add it, of course.
  10. First, you should fully enable hardware acceleration especially if your hardware is weak. Most corresponding prefs have already been enabled by default but the following ones should be set to the value true in any case: layers.prefer-d3d9, layers.acceleration.force-enabled and media.hardware-video-decoding.force-enabled. To force YouTube using the H.264 format, you can install the extension h264ify which you then have to configure to your needs. Personally, I avoid to play YouTube videos in browsers on my system. It's much too bloated. I prefer to use Invidious if I really want to watch those videos in a browser. Anyway! You can also install some user scripts from Greasy Fork to change YouTube settings in Mypal 68 as, for example, https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/480137-youtube-h-264-fps, or https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/493563-hide-vp9-support-from-youtube-force-30-fps-video by using Tampermonkey. But you have to test each user script as some of them don't work anymore due to the permanent changes by YouTube.
  11. Thanks for replying! The last official Chrome which supported Windows XP was the version 49.0.2623.112. I think I have a copy of it in my archive. In any case, I will check if the hardware acceleration worked at all in this version on my hardware and report here. I tested Chrome 49.0.2623.112 regarding hardware acceleration. It doesn't offer hardware accelerated 2d-Canvas. All other hardware accelerated features could be switched on. But testing those ancient Chrome versions is not easy as they are much too old to access modern websites. Without ProxHTTPSProxy, no chance anyways. However, this version has a lot of problems due to its old Javascript engine. In any case, I hope there is a chance to improve hardware acceleration in Thorium in such a way that both, 2d-Canvas and rasterization, can be done by GPU on old systems as mine to take more load off the CPU as it is the case, for example, in Mypal 68. @IDA-RE-things I can also provide a log of GPU errors if it is helpful in identifying and possibly fixing issues. However, one thing is clear. Thorium is almost unusable without the Chrome XP API Adapter on old computers like mine, even if the hardware acceleration only works partially.
  12. @user57 A little tip from me. Why don't you format your text so that people don't have a crisis when they read it? A text stretched out like this is difficult to read and is actually just annoying. I don't understand your countless blank lines at all. What you actually want to say falls completely by the wayside. Anyway! That was just a friendly hint.
  13. Puzzles from geo.captcha-delivery.com do neither work in New Moon 28 nor in Serpent 52, but, for example, in Mypal 68.14.2b. You can report it to "upstream", of course in such a way as described by @Mathwiz in this post: https://msfn.org/board/topic/185966-my-browser-builds-part-5/?do=findComment&comment=1267837. Personally, I do never visit www.etsy.com. If I had to, I would use a browser which can solve these puzzles like Mypal 68, or I throw such garbage to my Android tablet as usual.
  14. @dmiranda And LinkedIn seems to work in Serpent 52, too. So I don't know what you are actually talking about. And I can't see that the end is "nigh" for many websites in Windows XP.
  15. LinkedIn can be called up fine here in Mypal 68 and New Moon 28. What issues do you refer to?
  16. usagestats is not a flag but a REG_DWORD registry value as far as I can see. It was set to the value of zero on my machine.
  17. As "downstream", i.e. @roytam1, does not intend to solve this problem in Serpent as he already stated, you will inevitably have to wait until "upstream", i.e. @basilisk-dev, offers a fix. Or, you can do what I always do when a page in New Moon 28 doesn't work on Windows XP. Try the site in question under Mypal 68, and if that doesn't help, under a Chromium Win XP port like 360Chrome or Thorium! BTW, you simply cannot expect that everything you want to call up in a browser will work in Serpent. This will never be the case.
  18. BTW, I already posted my Thorium registry entries here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/186133-thorium/?do=findComment&comment=1267362
  19. I will check my registry entries when I am back at my desktop computer. Thanks for the heads up!
  20. TBH, I don't think that any website operator is still interested in compatibility problems of an unsupported and rather unknown browser like Serpent on an operating system like Windows XP that has not been supported for a long time. So don't expect an answer or support!
  21. Thanks for replying! The last official Chrome which supported Windows XP was the version 49.0.2623.112. I think I have a copy of it in my archive. In any case, I will check if the hardware acceleration worked at all in this version on my hardware and report here.
  22. TBH, all this benchmark stuff doesn't help me at all. I play a certain YouTube video on the browsers and know immediately whether hardware acceleration is being used or not. The problem with Thorium, however, is that part of the hardware acceleration (GPU rasterisation) is not running properly on my hardware. Your benchmark images don't help me at all. And comparing different browsers with each other makes no sense either. You have probably not configured Mypal 68 correctly via about:config. Switching on hardware acceleration in the options page of Mypal 68 is not enough, at least in my installation.
  23. I tested the most recent Chrome XP API Adapter on my system with Pentium 4 single-core and NVIDIA 6200. Generally, this adapter is great as it offers the possibility to enable hardware acceleration. Although the hardware acceleration can be switched on, there are negative side-effects. All popups now have a black background, which then appears as a black frame. Apart from that, the GPU rasterisation does not really work and leads to permanent delays. Furthermore, some of my toolbar icons that belong to extensions disappear. Thus, I had to switch off GPU rasterisation. Contrary to these problems in Thorium, the hardware acceleration in Mypal 68 and New Moon 28 works great without any problems. That means hardware acceleration is generally possible on my system and can be used if this feature is supported by a browser, especially with hardware as old as mine.
  24. Unfortunately, no. It doesn't work properly on my system.
  25. You're welcome! Personally, I prefer the portable version: https://github.com/smplayer-dev/smplayer/releases/download/v24.5.0/smplayer-portable-24.5.0.0-win32-qt5.6.7z But once again. The outer shell, SMPlayer, has been updated again and again, but neither mplayer nor mpv, i.e. the heart of the SMPlayer. Simply put, it's great on the outside, but a bit of a bummer on the inside. This is the real problem for Windows XP users.
