Anyway! I think it's great that a few startup managers exist for Windows XP that allow the user to delay the start of certain programs during the boot process. However, it should also be mentioned at this point that not every program can be started with a delay. However, such problems can sometimes be solved by modifying the autostart entry. You just have to try it out as is so often the case.

Off-topic: PDF24 Creator is a PDF suite. I use it mainly as a replacement for a printer. All print jobs are printed in PDF documents in my Windows XP system. And for this, PDF24 needs its own service in Windows. Therefore, a portable version would not make any sense. The program and its service have to be integrated deeply into the system just like a printer driver. As you may have noticed, most newer printers have not supported Windows XP for a long time. That's the reason for a missing, real printer.

No problem at all! It was just for your information.

Hello @nicolaasjan! I do have the need to start a very few programs with a delay. One oft them is PDF24 Creator 8.6.1, the last XP-compatible version. On one hand, PDF24 Creator's application service is started automatically with the command "pdf24.exe -service", on the other, the corresponding program "pdf24.exe" itself. If the program is started before running its service, it doesn't work and produces an error. So I have to delay the start of the program to let its service running first.

First of all, a clarification! As mentioned earlier, in Windows XP, programs and services cannot be started with a delay natively. There are, however, some autostart managers that are able to start programs with a delay. Services can generally not be started delayed with these programs due to restrictions under Windows XP. However, you can write your own batch file that can also start services with a delay, which I have already done in the past. Autostart managers that offer such a feature for delayed start of programs write themselves or a separate program into the Autorun location of Windows and take over the start process of the respective program(s) that is (are) to be started with a delay. Such a program is Quick Startup from Glarysoft. Cheers, AstroSkipper

Thanks for the tip! New ideas are welcome at any time. TBH, I will only debug the corresponding services if it is unavoidable. First I need further confirmation whether my described problem has something to do with the POSReady updates or not. My system works perfectly in general except the problem with Glarysoft's Startup Manager.

Hello @tekkaman! Thanks for your reply! My issue only happens with Glarysoft's Startup Manager. All other autostart or startup managers work as they should. I use Autoruns, too. No crashes here and never had one. The last version of Autoruns which runs without any problems in my system Windows XP SP3 (32 Bit) Professional POSReady is 13.98. However, I do not use it as my main startup manager due to the lack of the feature to delay the start of programs.

I tried to access Glarysoft's homepage with different French IPs via VPN. No problem here, either! No matter which connection I use I can always access this website successfully.

To all real (no VM) Windows XP SP3 (32 Bit) Professional POSReady users! Is anyone else here in the forum who can or can't confirm this issue described in the quoted posts?

XP/Vista-compatible clients for modern email services?
AstroSkipper replied to Mathwiz's topic in Windows XP
And here is the download link of DreamMail Pro 6.6.6.6: https://dl.cy-email.com/dm6/Download/dmpro_setup6.6.6.6.exe Cheers, AstroSkipper To force the updated installer of DreamMail Pro 6.6.6.6 to use English instead of Chinese as the installer language, I updated again my small loader that does this when it calls up the setup program. It must be executed in the same directory in which the setup file is located with its original file name dmpro_setup6.6.6.6.exe. Here is the download link of my loader Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_6666.exe: https://www.mediafire.com/file/259uhgh0fngnu28/Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_6666.7z/file Although some virus scanners detect this file as malicious, it is just a false-positive as always. Use my loader to force an English install, only if you trust me, of course! Cheers, AstroSkipper -
I already investigated the issue in terms of Quick Startup or Startup Manager embedded in Glary Utilities more deeply. Glary's application service GUBootService crashes in association with the dll file ntdll.dll in my Windows XP SP3 Professional POSReady system. Here is a screenshot: I think this could be a cause for the issue. But, I am not really sure about that. Maybe, there is still another reason, too.

No, I did not apply it. Here is the code to be applied by a reg file that has to be created first: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady] "Installed"=dword:00000001

Then your system can't be updated correctly in terms of POSReady.

Dito! Good, that's what I thought! Your system has not been completely updated with regard to POSReady. Because if it was, you would have to have ntdll.dll version 5.1.2600.7682 dated 19/03/2019 with a file size of 720,384 bytes. Seems like your Windows XP doesn't really have POSReady updates or at least not all of them. See the following link for the update KB4493563 in question: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/description-of-the-security-update-for-the-remote-code-execution-vulnerability-in-windows-embedded-posready-2009-april-9-2019-134ccc9d-2ffc-02f0-5df9-04ba050f3047 So I'm not at all surprised that Quick Startup works properly for you. Now, it would be very interesting to know what happens when all POSReady updates have been installed, especially KB4493563.

No problem here! I never had a problem to access this website with a German IP. Maybe, your internet service provider or your goverment is blocking it. Use a German IP, and you will see! BTW, I often noticed problems if I try to access certain sites by using a French IP via VPN. In your country, there seems to exist more restrictions in terms of internet and French IPs are more often blocked on certain sites for whatever reasons. Maybe, I'm also wrong, and it was just coincidence. It's just my impression whenever I use a French IP, via VPN, of course!

I have been using Glary Utilities for many, many years. I have a lifetime license for the Professional version. It receives updates on a very regular base. I never noticed any security problems, risks or strange behaviour. All my programs are controlled by a very good firewall called Windows 10 Firewall Control from Sphinx. I couldn't observe any hidden or unusual activities by Glarysoft. In Germany, Glary Utilities is recommended on most German websites and reviewed as a good, working suite of Windows tools from the very first time. If such activities or spy code had existed or would exist, this software would have been torn apart in Germany. But to be honest, all of that is completely off-topic. I created this thread to talk about Startup Managers. So please back on topic! And I need more confirmations in terms of my problem described in my previous posts.
