  1. Thanks for such a quick fix Do you plan to keep adding new functions later on? These are my suggestions. 1. Functions required for .NET Framework 4.0: 2. Functions required for the M$ exFAT driver: I know there are a lot of them Still this list would be much longer but you've already included many of the required functions in your kernel patch
  2. To make everything clear about KB915985 - Originally it was a hotfix (by request) and the v2 version mentioned above by PROBLEMCHYLD is an unofficial version made by BlackWingCat. It can be downloaded here: http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/archives/845435.html On the one hand it would be nice to have WildBill's changes done to the newest version available (KB915985-v2) but on the other hand there is no proof that the original KB915985 is perfectly stable (as it is a HBR). A possible solution could be to add BlackWingCat's changes, i.e. RtlCaptureStackBackTrace to WildBill's ntdll.dll and not use KB915985 at all.
  3. Thank you very much, WildBill You must uninstall BlackWingCat's kernel v5 or your system won't boot. It has a higher version of kernel32.dll (7139 vs. WildBill's 7136) and isn't replaced when installing WildBill's patch. WildBill, Why is there no ntdll.dll in UNIPROC? Without it there's a blue screen on booting (and during text setup too if slipstreamed). At this moment you have to replace the ntdll.dll from uniproc (in the i386 folder on w2k CD) manually. Otherwise you'll see a blue screen after reboot.
  4. Fantastic! Thank you very much It does the job
  5. After doing some searching I managed to find a tool which probably would do what I want... unfortunately its homepage is no longer on-line and I couldn't find any working URLs to download it It's called Taskbar mod for Windows 2000 (tbmod2k). I found some references about it here: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win2000/1229014486 and even BlackWingCat mentioned it at his blog: http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/archives/1474634.html If you happen to have it downloaded on your HDD, I'd be very helpful for re-uploading it somewhere.
  6. I wonder if there is any applications which makes it possible to group similar taskbar buttons as they are grouped in XP. Setting TaskbarGlomming doesn't have any noticeable effect so I guess this function is not present in the system at all. As an alternative I also tried to run ViGlance but it doesn't work in 2K.
  7. I used to have Avira and later Avast running in the background but nowadays I just have Avast installed but switched off and use it only for on-demand scanning.
  8. You don't need to install KB891861-v3 if you use UR2 as all of these updates are already included in UR2 Thanks for the notice about KB890466, I forgot about it. Thank you WildBill There are more functions I'm interested in but for this moment I'll just stop here
  9. Updates added: KB891861-v3 - I added KB899591 and KB919521 to the Update Rollup 1. KB830407-v2, KB835730-v3, KB890466-v3 - three HBRs which normally require a manual registry fix; this fix is done automatically in these versions. KB954920-v2 - an update for MDAC 2.81 KB960071 - a HBR for MDAC 2.81 Updates removed: KB919521 - replaced by KB891861-v3. 'Easy download' hasn't been updated yet. Details in #215.
  10. I haven't written anything in this topic for a while... but it doesn't mean that I've lost my interest in the topic I've been a little busy recently so I've been trying to focus more on the field of unofficial updates which require much less work than preparing a Service Pack. I also want to make a slipstreamable installation for .NET Framework (1.1-3.5) which could be put in HF folder. I also want to have a look at .NET 4.0 but I don't know yet if it's possible to make it work in 2K. Before doing anything concerning SP6 I'd like to make a one more version (and it'd be the last one) of UR2 which would be slipstreamable using the /integrate switch. I'll probably have to remove IE6 updates from it to keep compatiblity with both IE5 and 6 as at this moment there are problems with catalog files (the ones from IE5 and IE6 overlap each other causes problems when using sfc /scannow). By using /integrate I could also avoid doing any manual date modifications to the system dll and still have only newer versions slipstreamed I'm also looking forward to testing WildBill's new kernel patch which may fix a lot of compatiblity issues related with newer updates and applications.
  11. There is at least one issue related to HBRs and USP5.1 - all described in this topic Unfortunately there is no easy way to download all currently applicable updates with one click In case of unofficial updates you can use my method of "easy downloading" which is described here. After doing so you'll have to download around 100 official updates manually. Slipstreaming IE6/OE6 is fairly easy by using HFSLIP Bristols' list is probably the best source of updates for Win2k. Almost all of the unofficial updates listed in the topic at RyanVM are also listed by bristols. Here you can see my list of updates that I slipstream. There are a few HBRs among them too but the majority of them consist only of official & unofficial updates. You mentioned before that you want to slipstream the newest version of system components (IE, MDAC, etc.). In case of Script I'd suggest using the unofficial Script 5.8 as it's much faster than the older ones (althout it may not be useful on a server... ). My list contains WMP9/DX9 and updates for them too which you may not need on a server. FW/AV - as Kurt_Aust has already said, Comodo v2.4 is the probably the best solution for a 2K system at this moment. The newest version of Avast Home can be installed in 2K Server too if you use the "trick" mentioned in that topic.
  12. I think there are several important questions you need to answer before deciding which updates should be slipstreamed or not First of all: 1. Are you going to use unofficial (post-EOL) updates? 2. Are you going to use HBRs? As you're using Windows 2000 as a server I guess that stability is the most important thing here. Unofficial updates are mostly based on the official ones for XP/2003 so they should be stable in most cases. It's different with HBRs - they weren't thoroughly tested so there might be bugs in some of them. I'd suggest slipstreaming official and unofficial updates and leave HBRs aside unless you don't mind dealing with potential bugs caused by them. HBRs are included in USP 5.1 so if you decide not to use them, you should also omit USP. It's quite old nevertheless. There are some problems with UR2 at this moment so it's probably better to slipstream single updates rather than the Rollup (especially as your system is for server). Bristols' list is the ultimate source for Win2k updates. I can show you my list of updates which I slipstream but you first need to answer the two questions above
  13. This is a pretty impressive list I'm looking forward to downloading and installing your patch By the way, you mentioned before that one musn't apply any BlackWingCat's kernel patches after yours is installed. Wouldn't it be good to set the file version to a higher number than the one used in BWC's kernel v10? It would prevent your kernel files being overwritten by the other (older) ones. I'd also like to ask about two more functions such as: ntdll.dll -> RtlRandomEx rpcrt4.dll -> I_RpcExceptionFilter Would it be difficult to implement these too? I'm asking because after adding GetModuleHandleExW to kernel32.dll only these two are needed to make Windows Installer 4.5 work under Win2k.
  14. New updates: KBz2616676-v2 - digital certificates update from September 2011 KB927489-v2 - fixed compatiblity with HFSLIP KBz2524375 removed (replaced by KBz2616676-v2) There was a problem with KB927489. Its inf file was set to strange encoding and was messed up when being processed by HFSLIP. Therefore the necessary registry changes were not done. It's fixed in v2. Details in #215.
  15. KB2524375 is also replaced by KB2616676-v2.
  16. Check this setting: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "PersistBrowsers"=dword:00000001
  17. Now I know what the problem is. These updates require the file mstscax.dll to be present in Windows in order to work. Could you try to install either MS RDP 5.1 or MS RDP 5.2 and see what happens then when trying to install these updates? I will try to make a one single installer for MS RDP 5.2 but I don't have the time to do it now.
  18. Here you go: http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/archives/1163868.html You set the number of cores in the registry. You might need to replace these files manually if you have unofficial KB981852 installed...
  19. I added two more updates: KB927489 - two additional Japanese fonts KBz2483618 - an update for MS RDP 5.2 Details in #215.
  20. Silent .NET Maker is enough for an all-in-one switchless installer for .NET 1.1,2.0&3.5. It doesn't support .NET 4.0 though. Alternatively you can use addons/switchless installers available on RyanVM board.
  21. I checked KB961742-v3. It won't work because most of the files are located in a sub-folder in sp3qfe called "ip" and HFSLIP won't copy them to the Windows source. It should be placed in HFSVCPACK_SW1.
  22. kooky, in case of KB2524375 & KB2562937 it's perfectly OK since these updates make only changes in the registry and don't install any files.
  23. WildBill, could you provide a full list of functions you added to the kernel?
