  1. I used Advanced Server in the past. There are NO differences in the core system files between all Windows 2000 editions. I do no think your problem is related to this particular version of Windows 2000. The only issues I had back then was software that claimed to be "incompatible" with the server OS which usually meant "you must pay a lot of $$$ for the server version of our product". What kind of hardware are you using the OS on?
  2. As the author of the two packages I would just like to clarify a few things. 1. UURollup (Unofficial Update Rollup) is a rollup of various unofficial updates (created by people like BlackWingCat, WildBill, acus, me and others) and also many Microsoft-made components (new VC++ libraries, etc.) which otherwise would not be available for Windows 2000. UURollup is still maintained (although has not been updated for some time) and available to download from my Archive. 2. Update Rollup 2 (not UURollup 2) was an unofficial rollup of most official updates and hotfixes released after the official Update Rollup 1 which basically means between 2005 and 2010 when Windows 2000 became EOL. It was not available in all languages and there were a few issues with it, too difficult to fix, thus I decided to stop developing it. If you slipstream the updates and hotfixes with HFSLIP you will get the same effect (actually better considering the bugs) as long as you use the updates lists from my website. I would strongly recommend not using Update Rollup 2 at all and especially not downloading it from unknown sources. Even if there is no malware or such, the files may just be corrupted and neither I nor anyone else will be able to provide any help with potential issues or instabilities.
  3. Yes but in case of 2K they have not updated it so the system will only be partially localized if you install IE6. The overall experience is very bad (your local language mixed with English everywhere). You need to stick to IE5.5 for it to fully work, and even then the translation is kind of buggy. All in all, MUI for 2K seems to be half-baked, especially compared to the one for XP/2003.
  4. Unfortunately MUI is not available to download for free. You had to pay for it. MUI for 2K is buggy anyway (works properly only if IE5.5 is used for system shell) so I would not bother.
  5. I just want to say that recently I have been using both Firefox and Palemoon to write / edit posts and everything seems to be working fine so far!
  6. I am completely fine with a little bit of off-topic (as long as the main topic stays intact ). I just probably will not be able to help with how to create and deploy any packages for NT6+. There are other forum members who likely know much more about doing that though .
  7. I have found several packages in Google that are supposed to add language components related to the Hong Kong Chinese but this still does not explain why there is a whole separate SP4 release I do not really want to download any full Windows 2000 builds as that would be a) illegal and b) I do not really need them. I am just curious why only the SP4 is available for "zh-hk" and the rest of the updates are not
  8. There are a lot of things involved in creating unofficial packages. First of all, NT4/5 and NT6 updates are completely different in structure. While I have learnt a lot about the former when working on Windows 2000 updates, I do not really know much about the latter. To tell the truth, my current skills are useless when it comes to NT6 updates. I did use a batch script to create the old Unofficial Update Rollup 2 and several other unofficial updates. The script was written by myself with help from many MSFN and RyanVM forum members. However, it is not finished and (frankly speaking) kind of half-baked, i.e. unusable at the moment. I first need to find enough time to resume the development and only then make the script public. It would do more harm than good to release it in this state. Now, UURollup was actually not created by a script but rather hand-coded. I was trying to modify the old script and adapt it for UURollup but it in the end did not manage to do it due to lack of time. Today it is probably too late which means that any future updates to UURollup must be made by hand. Just a side note - I do have a separate script to create a merged .NET Framework installer out of the .NET Framework addons created by OnePiece. This script is completely different from the other one and should still be working fine (unless there have been changes in the addon structure).
  9. Windows 2000 updates normally support simplified Chinese (zh-cn) and traditional Chinese (zh-tw). However, the SP4 is also available for traditional Chinese, Hong Kong (zh-hk). I have briefly compared the three packages (w2ksp4_cn.exe, w2ksp4_hk.exe, w2ksp4_tw.exe) and the files are in fact different. Also, as far as I have seen, no other updates are available for this zh-hk version. Does anyone know what is up with this "special" release? Was there a separate Windows 2000 version for Hong Kong?
  10. Thank you for all the kind words! My health is kind of so-so as I have been experiencing some bronchial asthmatic problems but it should get better soon. Unfortunately I do not know anything more about WildBill than you do but let us hope he is doing fine!
  11. Thanks a lot @5eraph! I am now able to fix several links on my site which have been broken since the forum update, and I was unable to find the proper threads. Now the question is why break the old scheme only to replace it with a new one?
  12. After fixing some minor issues I have updated my website under the normal address: http://windows2000.tk. There are still issues to fix when it comes to design, such as mobile view (although even now it should be much more usable than before) which I am going to address one by one later. Updating the site is not the end though but a new beginning. Now I can focus on Windows 2000 and the updates themselves.
  13. I have updated my website again (temporary address: http://windows2000.tk/new). All links should be working now! In the future I still want to replace the MS Update Catalog URLs with direct links but this will take a lot of time so I am going to do it gradually. Hotfixes too are under risk now - no one knows how long M$ is going to provide them. I have also cleaned the code, improved semantics and accessibility. If there are no issues, probably tomorrow I will replace the current site with the updated one. Then I am also going to remove the old Download Archive from Google Drive. Please let me know if there are problems with site or downloading the updates!
  14. Thank you very much for all the kind words! I hope I will get better soon with more energy to focus on the important things Please report if you find any issues on the website. I believe that I have fixed all links for the IE, Script, DX, MDAC, WM and Other updates lists and am in the middle of fixing the Windows updates list. Later I want to replace all the Microsoft Catalog links to direct URLs but this requires a lot of time. Adding those direct links to each update will also increase the site weight significantly but I cannot think of any other way to ensure that these files can be downloaded (and also archived by the Internet Archive). I have also read somewhere about M$ planning to "update" their Update Catalog website. Although the current revision is ancient, requires IE and ActiveX to work, etc. I have a bad feeling that Windows 2000 / XP may not be there any more after they do "the update"... so there is no time to waste.
  15. I have spent most of my free time recently on my website and Windows 2000 in general. I have had some health problems though (spent last night in the hospital) and everything is going slowly . I still have not managed to fix everything and need more time to finish it but I think it may be useful to make the current website available so you can check it and tell me if there are any problems. The temporary address is http://windows2000.tk/new. I have made a lot of fixes and changes - both when it comes to the content and the design. This is not the final version and there will be more updates in the next few days. Please let me know what you think about it!
  16. Fixing all the broken URLs is taking me more time than expected :/ I will need a few more days to finish everything and only then will make the updated version of my site public.
  17. Yes, especially considering the fact that both @Mim0 and -X- have not updated their sites for a long time: http://hfslip.altervista.org http://xdot.tk and also have not added any POSReady updates to the list. This is a very distant goal though, only after the Windows 2000 related content has been put in order. It can be easily created (not only 7 but also 8 or 10) but I doubt it will be very useful. I do not think there is much software that is incompatible with XP and runs in Windows 2000 at the same time (with the extended kernel, that is). Maybe Palemoon? I could possibly add an option to set a desired compatibility level in the launcher. I will think about it . What I am doing now is: 1. Cleaning the website a little bit. 2. Fixing the broken URLs. 3. Adding the new Archive and HFSLIP sections. 4. Moving the Archive to Dropbox and reorganizing it. Later I also want to add all the remaining POSReady updates to the list, and provide more detailed information on how to slipstream everything together (for someone who is not experienced with HFSLIP, etc.). The four points listed above should be ready this week.
  18. I am writing just to provide a quick update on the current state of things. It seems that all (?) Windows 2000 updates are gone from M$ website which means that the old URLs do not work any more. The majority of the updates seem to be still available in the Microsoft Update Catalog so for now I am just going to redirect the links there. We cannot now how long they will keep the updates in the catalogue so I am going to gradually transfer the broken URLs to the Wayback Machine (or my download archive in case the update is not archived). It will be a very long process though (350+ updates, 24 languages each). You can expect a big update to my website at the end of the week.
  19. You can use this URL scheme to have a kind of "direct" links through the Wayback Machine: http://web.archive.org/web/http://download.microsoft.com/download/c/c/a/ccafe1fa-c4a2-4851-a2a9-eb973e2c3acb/w2ksp4_hk.exe One big problem is that a lot of links (especially older and rare languages) have simply not been archived, so knowing the old URL does not help much . For example, http://web.archive.org/web/http://download.microsoft.com/download/c/c/a/ccafe1fa-c4a2-4851-a2a9-eb973e2c3acb/w2ksp4_ar.exe (and _cs, _da, _nl, _fi, _he, _ko, _no, _sv) are dead, and this is just for Windows 2000 SP4.
  20. It is dark gray now, to be exact: http://leaverou.github.io/contrast-ratio/#%232e2e2e-on-rgb%28253%2C253%2C253 The contrast ratio is much better than before so thank you @xper!
  21. BlackWingCat has added many functions from newer versions of Windows to the kernel. Some of them are real, some of them are stubs. This way many programs that either use them or ask for them to be present work in our OS . My compatibility launcher script only tells the software that the OS is Windows XP. It is exactly the same as "run in compatibility mode" available in newer Windows. It will not help if the program actually requires some of the functions to work. It only helps when either the installer or the executable itself refuses to start. As in case of Firefox, the browser does work with the extended kernel but the installer will not run, thus you can use the compatibility launcher just to work around the installation.
  22. Before: https://leaverou.github.io/contrast-ratio/#%23666666-on-rgb%28253%2C253%2C253 Now: https://leaverou.github.io/contrast-ratio/#rgb%2892%2C%2092%2C%2092%29-on-rgb%28253%2C253%2C253 The colour values I took directly from the MSFN's CSS. The difference is slight, but it is for the better so can't complain.
  23. I personally prefer just black text but yes, it is a little better now so thank you! I hope the IPB will fix these errors in future versions of their forum software as at the moment it is simply impossible to use Firefox to write posts! Right now I am using a Chromium based browser specifically for MSFN.
  24. I think you may have a graphics or sound card driver problem. Could you list your hardware? I have just tested both VLC and PotPlayer in my test machine (HFSLIP2000 package + UURollup v11d20141130). 1. VLC works fine, including the newest version. I am using VLC Portable (and portable apps in general) because then you do not need to work around the installer being incompatible with Windows 2000. 2. PotPlayer's new versions do not work (hacked dll...) but old ones do. I will need to test each of them to determine which one broke the compatibility. Try to install PotPlayerSetup-1.6.51514.exe from http://videohelp.com/software/PotPlayer/old-versions. It is working fine here in my setup. 3. Just to confirm - I played three different MP4 files in both players with zero problems. 1. I would not suggest that. You will end up with buggy USB drivers (due to USP5.1) and an incompletely updated system (UR2 does not cover all of the official updates). 2. First you could try to uninstall UURollup and install BWC kernel in your current configuration. The Compatibility Launcher is just a simple script file. You can find it in any UURollup package ('AppComp.cmd') .
  25. Could you check https://potplayer.daum.net/ and let us know if it works? I will try to test VLC later.
