  1. The contrast ratio between the post text and the background is pretty poor: http://leaverou.github.io/contrast-ratio/#%23666666-on-rgb%28253%2C253%2C253 Would it be possible to increase it to "7" or higher (so that it complies with WCAG 2.0 AAA)? I find the current text difficult to read, and I have a decent monitor (the contrast will be worse on cheaper ones).
  2. Were you running HFSLIP 2000 in Windows 2000? If the host OS is >= Vista then the script has to be run as administrator in order to work properly, otherwise some of the executables (especially the older ones) will not extract properly and as a result will not be slipstreamed. I should probably edit the script so that it automatically demands administrative rights. Any security software (firewall, antivirus, etc.) may cause problems so it is recommended to turn everything off before running the script.
  3. Did you use my HFSLIP package to integrate all the updates? Was your Windows 2000 source clean? Please install VirtualBox and test your ISO there. This way we can see whether it is the ISO or the hardware to cause the problem.
  4. It is nice to hear that the issue has been solved and that Firefox itself is running fine in the system. If you are starting from scratch then I would just recommend: 1. Download my my full HFSLIP package and use it prepare and install Windows. 2. Install either the newest daily release of UURollup or the BlackWingCat's kernel. 3. Install my .NET Framework package if you need it. Of course, you will also need to install all the required drivers, etc. but those are hardware dependent. The other packages are not needed. I would especially recommend not using USP5.1 which contains buggy USB drivers, and not using Update Rollup 2 which is obsolete and whose components are already included in the HFSLIP package. The HFSLIP package itself is just a reflection of my website. It is easier to download everything together than downloading each update one by one. Keep in mind that the package is English only though. To summarize, all the required links: full HFSLIP package, UURollup, .NET Framework combined installer. I have been reorganizing everything but at the moment it is happening only on my computer locally . The website and the Download Archive will be updated only when everything is ready. The current version will stay unchanged until then. I am not making any changes on the fly.
  5. I really do not like to complain about a forum software as I understand that you are kind of forced to upgrade and have been trying to do everything to make it usable. However, I just must say that using the new editor is extremely frustrating. Lack of proper BBCode support is one thing, but the problem is that the Editor is just very buggy. Pressing ENTER or SHIFT+ENTER often breaks the line in the middle of the previously written text. Sometimes pressing ENTER just removes the whole paragraph completely. Other times the whole paragraphs moves down. Pasting links is also hit or miss. I have experienced these issues in two different portable installations of Firefox - both the newest version, one completely clean, one with addons and everything. To write even a short post I have to constantly go back and forth relying on Ctrl+Z and also keep the whole thing copied in clipboard all the time. Please check it when you have some free time as at the moment it seems easier to just write everything in Word beforehand and then paste the complete post here. Even right now while writing a post in another thread ENTER just suddenly stopped working completely. Crtl+V is not working also. I am really wondering if those responsible for the IPB software have even tested it in Firefox.
  6. Apart from the Unofficial Update Rollup 2 which is obsolete (but should not do any harm), and an older version of UURollup (the newest is d20141130) there is nothing strange here. This sounds strange. The browser should function properly unless there is some kind of a bug that breaks functionality in Firefox when run specifically in Windows 2000 (as it is the case with Chrome and JavaScript pop-ups). Do you use any addons? If so disable them and try again. Could you open https://www.whatismybrowser.com/ and show a screen shot of what it says under "Your web browser is" and "Your Web Browser's Capabilities"?
  7. Actually the Extended Kernel also adds a lot of Vista+ functionality. It went beyond Windows XP long time ago already. My guess is that with the newest version of the kernel Firefox thinks the OS is NT 6.x and that is why it crashes. I am going to check what exactly is responsible for the issue though. I will also likely update the UURollup in the near future so stay tuned.
  8. Javascript has nothing to do with Java Runtime Environment. You need not install Java at all, especially to browse the Web. Strangely enough, Firefox (and other browsers too, such as Palemoon) does crash after installing the BlackWingCat's kernel using its default installation settings, but they seem to work fine with my last daily of UURollup (from 2014). I am writing this very post using the newest version of Firefox (v46.0.1) in Windows 2000. Could you tell me exactly what kind of Windows setup you have? What updates are installed? Are you using the BWC kernel or UURollup? Please try to download and run Firefox Portable, and tell me if it works or not.
  9. I am in the process of moving the whole download archive from Google Drive to Dropbox. I have been using Dropbox Pro for a few months which offers 1 TB of space to use. This should remove the current disk space constraints and also allow me to later add Windows XP and 2003 updates too (before M$ removes them from their servers). Dropbox also allows direct linking to the files which is not possible in Google Drive. The new archive will be available as soon as I update my site in the near future. The current URL should remain accessible until then.
  10. At this point I do not think it makes any sense to test without having SP4, IE6, UR1 and all the other official updates and/or hotfixes installed. This is the minimum for my testing environment and I am not going to do any testing below that. No idea about WPA2 . I did use Windows 2000 on a laptop but the WiFi card had a proprietary software that was used to connect to wireless networks. It was a long time ago and I do not remember any details though. You may want to ask BlackWingCat about this problem. I have been working on my website for some time but it is still a long way to go to replace all the broken URLs. I am going to use the Wayback Machine wherever possible and my Archive for the others. I have also changed hosting again. The Pancake thing was doing some underhand stuff by inserting JS scripts to my website source and also pushed their robots.txt file which blocked all crawlers (such as Google or Wayback Machine) from indexing the site which was a big no-no. The site is currently hosted on Github Pages which seems to work very nicely and transparently.
  11. Thank you for the offer! I cannot accept it though as I would really like to keep 100% control over the site and the hosting, and also be able to easily make changes every time I want to. I have found a free service (http://pancake.io) which links my domain to my Dropbox folder. It is the same method as before with Google Drive so I hope it will work fine. Hmm, I would have to test it myself but you try the following: 1. Launch Firefox in safe mode (keep SHIFT pressed) and see if it still crashes. 2. Disable hardware acceleration in Firefox' settings if it is enabled. 3. Install the newest release of the BlackWingCat's kernel and see if the problem persists. UURollup has not been updated for a while and it is much behind the current version of the BWC kernel. I hope you have IE6 installed because while UURollup will work without it, the BWC kernel will not and the system will likely not boot at all if you put it over IE5.
  12. For the time being I would prefer to stay with a free solution... At the moment I have just moved the files and redirected everything to Dropbox. Unfortunately to do a full redirection (now the URL changes) I would have to use a 3rd party paid solution. I will have to think about what to do next as I do not really want to use any "free" hosting service. Most of them are very unreliable. A good thing about Google Drive (and Dropbox) is almost 100% uptime and very fast servers. Of course I want to keep the current top level .tk domain too.
  13. http://windows2000.tk is not working at the moment but you can still access my website under http://www.googledrive.com/host/0Bw_nt4aAJIoPTnZrUHBkdEZ4RjA. The site is hosted on Google Drive and I have used http://gweb.io to link it to the .tk domain but the service seems to be completely down. I have also just learnt that Google Drive itself will no longer offer web hosting after August 2016 so I will now have to start looking for a different solution.
  14. I have been working on my website for some time. There are indeed hundreds of broken links . It seems that Microsoft has removed a lot of updates recently as they were still working last year. It will take me some time to fix all of them. I will definitely add information about HFSLIP and the Download Archive. As for the "non-destructive reinstall", it would require serious testing on real hardware and also instructions on how to make a disk image using 3rd party software as there is no way to either stop or revert the process. I would not do it without a proper backup.
  15. This may be a problem for some people. In many cases you need to use older versions of addons, as the new ones support only current (usually post-Australis) releases of Firefox. In some cases you need to install Palemoon specific forks, as in case of the HTTPS Everywhere addon. It may be frustrating at times. There are also many addon incompatibilities when it comes to Palemoon for Android. All the addons I wanted to use did not work at all, and there were no alternatives available
  16. I am going to gradually update my website, starting with adding the remaining XP POSReady updates which have been released since the last update. After that I am thinking of reorganizing the website a little bit - especially the "Update scenarios" section which at the moment is not very useful. I should probably include all the information about how to prepare a fully updated Windows 2000 source which has been discussed here all the time. I think a detailed guide will probably play this role best as at the moment there is no such information readily available. It may be wise to gather such information in one place as at the moment the only "up-to-date" guide on HFSLIP is the one on the Mim0's website which is no longer updated. Please let me know if there is any specific content that you think would be valuable to add to the site!
  17. As Tommy said, at the moment HFSLIP is able to slipstream most updates in the same way as when we integrate a service pack. It is also more flexible. In case of a service pack, it has to be continuously updated and cannot be easily modified, which is not the case with HFSLIP where you can freely add and remove specific updates. The only real benefit of a service pack is the ability to install it in an already running system which is something that HFSLIP is unable to do. I still think that it would be nice to have a fully updated USP5 but at the moment, with my limited time, it will probably be better to focus on adding all the new Windows XP POSReady updates to my website, and also maintaining a few of the other unofficial packages, such as the combined .NET Framework installer which Tommy mentioned above. I will try to do as much as I can but cannot really give any details in advance. I will keep everyone informed if I release anything new or make any changes in the existing packages. For new functions and new software compatibility I would suggest to follow BlackWingCat and his kernel which he updates very often.
  18. Just for information, the Update Rollup 1 is still available to download from the Microsoft Update Catalog. I will probably change the broken current URL to it when I update my website.
  19. Just in case, all Windows 2000 official updates and hotfixes (including the SP4) in all language versions are available to download via my Download Archive I am actually thinking of preparing a minor update to the original USP5 just to fix the few known bugs (buggy USB drivers, CPU overheating, etc.). As for something on a larger scale than that, I cannot really say or promise anything at the moment.
  20. While the first two updates are indeed down (will try to replace the URLs soon), the links to hotfixes load fine on my computer. Could you try to use another web browser and report the results? Edit: It seems to be a problem on the Microsoft side. The links will sometimes load, and sometimes will not. I do not know what the problem is about. They loaded fine in Chrome just a minute ago but will not load now. The same exact links are still accessible with IE though.
  21. The package is not available on the website itself. You can find it here: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0Bw_nt4aAJIoPT0NBRmdCcExjQ1k&tid=0Bw_nt4aAJIoPWWNBay13dTlXOWs#list The link mentioned above by bphlpt is for the HFSLIP 2000 script while this one contains both the script and the updates ready for slipstreaming (only for the ENU version). By the way, can you tell me exactly which links to the individual hotfixes are "down"?
  22. As Tommy said above, just use my HFSLIP package to integrate the official updates and then manually install the newest version of the BlackWingCat's kernel to have additional features. The HFSLIP package contains almost all official updates and hotfixes (except for the ones which are either buggy or cannot be slipstreamed).
  23. Speaking from my experience, it is actually very difficult to find working links for non-EN updates. Especially when it comes to less used languages you have to spend a lot of time in Google and even then in some cases the links are simply not indexed at all
  24. You can find Windows 2000 SP4 (all 25 languages) in my download archive. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0Bw_nt4aAJIoPZ0pNTnVqOXRyYTg&tid=0Bw_nt4aAJIoPWWNBay13dTlXOWs#list
  25. The UURollup daily packages are packed to .7z to save space on my not-so-big hard disk and also in the Google Drive. There were issues with slipstreaming too. I would suggest to install the UURollup package manually after installing Windows with all the official updates slipstreamed. There is no "consolidated service pack" but you can download my "HFSLIP2000.7z" pack where all official updates for the English version of Windows 2000 are included and ready for slipstreaming. You just need to add your original Windows 2000 source and then run the script.
