  2. You might have used a program like winbar or something similar that had tabs. tabs might be a good idea, you'll have room to add extra options when something new is learnt of.
  3. Drivers\Catalyst3_6\2KXP_INF;Drivers\asus\sound\ should be removed and add a note: seperate paths with a semi-colon. It might be an idea to tab each section with tab buttons on the top, this way you will be able to write up more information about each function. *Image at start of thread fixed.*
  4. Installing Alcohol 120% unattended doesn't quite make a full installation of it. You'll find that the 'Mount' and 'Unmount' options isn't there when right clicking a virtual drive in My Computer. Doing a manual installation works however, I think this might be because the shell hasn't loaded when doing it unattended.
  5. Maybe its because Windows 98 is dead
  6. Regshot was mentioned by someone else in the forums yesterday, that's how I came to learn about it
  7. 512MB has been around for quite a while and seems to be enough for anyone, but getting 768MB or 1GB should be good enough for the next 2-3 years.
  8. Using regshot, I found it changes one registry key, this registry key is for removing the Help and Support link in the Start Menu, yours may differ due to the unique numbering (which is different on every setup): HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-854245398-329068152-682003330-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoSMHelp: 01 00 00 00 *Edit* Added the import code... Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-854245398-329068152-682003330-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoSMHelp"=hex:01,00,00,00
  9. You're not alone on this one, every XP install seems slightly different every single time. Microsoft works in mysterious ways unfortunately! You can fix the problem where specific folders don't remember your view settings by deleting the following keys from the registry and rebooting straight after: BagMRU and Bags in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\
  10. Theres a help article below the one I mentioned about setting up a broadband connection, but I can't help you with anything!

    Win XP Registry

Regcleaner is the best one, shame it went commercial at http://www.macecraft.com
  12. yup
  13. Have you tried using Regshot to take a snapshot before and after? Make a snapshot, tick the checkbox in the Maintain your Server window, then make another snapshot. It should output the relevant keys that were changed.
  14. I installed the vantec aeroflow fan using artic silver 3 this afternoon, very happy with it Stock speed is 3.0GHz (not 3.06, as this is the 800MHz FSB version) I overclocked to 3.21GHz, temp stable at 35C, then I went up to 3.53GHz, resulting in a BSOD when the PC was idle when I went out for a cigarette! I upped it to 3.7GHz, but the PC wouldn't boot, even when the temp wasn't that bad at around 40C. Moments later after resetting the CMOS, I overclocked to 3.3GHz with CPU:DRAM at 5:4 and its been fine since. I may have to fiddle with the other options such as the memory if I want to keep a stable 3.5 or 3.7GHz. I'm all new to this overclocking though!
  15. Alexa just collects statistics on what website is visited often, and makes rankings for them. Its not really *extremely bad* spyware. You can see how popular a site is by typing the URL in Alexa's search box at http://www.alexa.com
  16. You can create an .ins file which holds your connection information. Here is mine for example for Freeserve 56k: [Entry] Entry_Name=Freeserve [Phone] Phone_Number=147008089916080 Area_Code= Country_Code=44 Country_ID=44 Dial_As_Is=Yes [User] Requires_Logon=Yes Name=REMOVED Password=REMOVED Display_Password=yes [Server] SW_Compress=No PW_Encrypt=No Type=PPP Network_Logon=no SW_Encrypt=no Negotiate_NetBEUI=no Negotiate_IPX/SPX=no Negotiate_TCP/IP=Yes [TCP/IP] Specify_Server_Address=No IP_Header_Compress=No Gateway_On_Remote=Yes DNS_Address= DNS_Alt_Address= [ConnectionSettings] ApplyInsToConnection=Freeserve Explaination of these values are in the ieakhelp.chm file, I you can download it from here and browse to Reference > Internet Settings (.ins) files. Sometimes an .ins file can be downloaded from your ISP's support page. If not, then compare your current set options in your dial up preferences to create your own ins file, using the chm file to help you. You can also customize IE and OE, such as branding the titlebar. Lastly, the Setup Manager in the deploy tools gives you the option to include your ins file, so re-edit your winnt.sif file in Setup Manager!
  17. I'm a bit late in entering this thread. Email me the app and I'll host it (aaronxp at MSFN dot org). Your image doesn't work (silly bandwidth limits on angelfire tbh) so send me that and I'll edit your original post to fix the image
  18. Some people have experienced slowdown, such as applications taking 10 times longer to load after installing SP1. This won't happen when SP1 is slipstreamed into the Windows XP CD though.
  19. I ran it yesterday and the Volume Bitmap error is gone. Only time will tell if it appears again though! Thanks!
  20. The only way I can think of is to rename your favourite cursors the same as the windows default ones, and then copy them over using a batch. I'm unsure if this will work because the mouse pointer is active when the batch is running, so it may have to be done via cmdlines.txt
  21. It looks like he's using Windows Server 2003's WINNTBBU.DLL
  22. You could integrate the MS CDImage tool to create an ISO, although this will force all filenames and folders to uppercase. I've found that using a particular switch with cdimage will keep filename and folder casing intact, but this causes a usbhsci.dll or similar to be "not found" when installing Windows XP.
  23. I will, there's a lot that needs updating on the site, but haven't got the time yet
  24. To start with, you can disable the scheduled tasks on networks to speed up things a bit. Browse to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace\ and delete the key: {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF} And, in your NIC Properties (in Device Mananger only) change the network speed from Auto Detect to 100Mpbs TX Full Duplex. Do this on 2 machines to test.
