If you're using a router, then you need to configure the ports via telnet to your router, or use its own graphical user interface. If you're on a direct connection to the internet then you don't need to configure anything unless your firewall is blocking ports by default.
Rick, you ever ran Memtest86 on your PC? Since you're having so much bad luck with all the OSs, you probably have a faulty RAM module, usually bad RAM modules cause all problems.

Win2k is now able to access Windows Update V4. This is the same Windows Update that XP users see when checking for updates to the Operating system. Its the first such overhaul for an already existing Operating system since the release of Windows 98 which brought Windows Update into existence. Windows Update v4 has been in beta testing for well over a year (also prior to the release of XP) and Microsoft plans to further migrate Windows 98 and Millennium to the new Windows Update leaving V3 all but a memory. What was the longest beta in Microsoft's history (almost 5 years) will also end on June 30th. V3 of Windows Update remained beta right up until Microsoft announced that they will be moving most of its V3 testers over to V4 automatically and closing the beta test. Both SP3 beta testers and lower level Service Pack builds can access the new Windows Update site. WindowsUpdate News Source: Neowin.net
Kerio works on LAN and ICS REAL NICE! No fussing around with settings to make it work. All it requires is a tick in a checkbox for "This machine is an Internet Gateway". And from then on... its flawless!
