  1. Sounds like your motherboard chipset memory controller is pooched.....If differnt memory does the same thing, the motherboard is all that is left......you can try a BIOS update, if one is available but, I highly doubt it will change anything. I think your buying a new motherboard.....
  2. You can also get service pack cd's delivered by snail mail - for free! Then you never have to download them at all and you won't have to worry about download errors either.....
  3. I agree with Jeremy, Punt NIS and get Kaspersky, AVG or Avast! Anti-virus - all three are way better than Norton anyway! We call Norton "Bloatware" here at work....lol
  4. Sounds like a hardware error....most likely the video card. No way of telling really....all you can do is disconnect everything except 1 stick of memory, video card and the floppy drive....use the boot disk and see if it still freezes. if so, try another video card, still does it change the RAM around too........I would also look for a BIOS update at you manufacterers web site and update it first......
  5. More info would be good! What is it doing? Freezing? Endlessly restarting? Any error messages at all?
  6. No, The -! is to allow a progress bar....... Desiel, I see that, in your RTF File, you have asked for comfirmation of the Win Media Player 10 switches you have listed.......as you can see from my earlier post I use the /Q switch and it installs silently - with no trouble at all.
  7. Here are some switches......sorry if they are re-posts start /wait %systemdrive%\Install\Application\WMP10\mp10setup.exe /Q start /wait %systemdrive%\Install\Application\Kazaa\klitekpp241e.exe /SP /VERYSILENT /NOREBOOT start /wait %systemdrive%\Install\Application\Winamp\Winamp5.0.8.msi /QB-! start /wait %systemdrive%\Install\Application\anydvd\SetupAnyDVD.exe /S /NCRC start /wait %systemdrive%\Install\Application\DVDSanta\dvdSanta3.45.exe /SP /VERYSILENT /NORESTART start /wait %systemdrive%\Install\Application\DVDshrink\dvdshrink317setup.exe /SP /VERYSILENT /NOREBOOT start /wait %systendrive%\Install\Application\XoftSpy\XoftSpy408Installer.exe /S
  8. Well.....I don't want to dis-able the drivers I don't need - this would defeat the purpose of using Bashrat's fine driverpacks completely....I know how to slipstream individual drivers for specific systems but I want this one to be useable on multiple systems and not just mine. I decided to try using N-lite to integrate the drivers in the driver packs - just to see if it would make any difference to my freezing issue and I found that to be alot of work but...... it did the trick! I have tried installing on 4 different machines now and I can report no errors at all! Woohoo! What I did was: 1. Installed BTS's Driver pack 4.10 2. Extracted all of BTS's new drivers into a temp folder 3. nlited all the new drivers - I used nlite for nothing else... 4. used CDImage to create an iso and tested in Virtual PC - worked fine 5. Burned a re-writable and tried it on my dell laptop - No problems! 6. Used it on every comp in the house and - no errors! 7. Danced the jig of joy!!!!
  9. Shift Delete merely removes the folder from windows, it's still there on the hard drive.....use a dos mode unerase program to retrieve it......
  10. Belated Happy B-Day! Thanks for all the help too!!!!
  11. I have an odd problem that I'm sure is a minor glitch since no-one else seems to have the same problem here! I've downloaded and installed the latest Driverpacks....and with help from this forum, figured out my "error portcls.sys" by adding the Dell drivers to the UXPCD I'm making but now, I seem to have a lock up or freezing problem right around the 6 minute mark (remaining time) that only occurs after the new driver packs are incorporated. If I revert back to Bashrat's Version4.10 of the driverpacks and I have no troubles at all Any Ideas?
  12. well......that doesn't sound too good! what does the log file say?
  13. Does it have onboard sound? what sound chip is it, if it does?
  14. Did you change your video driver? I notice on my system that the scroll is very jerky until I install the proper drivers.....
  15. It makes a big difference to people around the world for pricing - for sure! I know you pay huge bucks for good parts if your in an "economically challenged" country or even if you just live out in the sticks.....shipping alone will kill prices for alot of people so, I'd say this idea for cost comparison will be rather skewed at the least!
  16. Your un-smooth scrolling may also be caused by the use of microsoft's generic video driver....check to see if you are using the latest driver for your card
  17. got them thanks btw.. what did you ad in the Dosnet.inf I just copied and pasted the appropriate sections from Bashrats Driverpacks Html guide -
  18. Another update.........it seems Dell does not like many drivers at all! I have found that the only drivers that actually loaded were the Dell sigmatel sound drivers that I added and the Broadcom LAN drivers in Bashrat's packs Every other driver I required was using the default microsoft generic ones. I guess I'll have to add them all in as well...sigh..... On a more positive note.....My UWCD works perfectly on my Desktop system! All the drivers loaded A-OK, including the ASUS Wi-Fi@Home Drivers!
  19. Here are the Drivers off the Dell CD.....Sorry....can't upload...only allowed 150K You can get them from *http://www.pulsarcomputers.ca/Dell_A011_Sigmatel_Sound.rar.......
  20. I'm at work right now but, I'll do so as soon as I get home!
  21. Well....I added the Dell drivers from my driver disk, they look like they are almost identical to the ones you put in DP\S\S - The Sigmatel folder - and your drivers say Version A07 inside the .inf and the ones on my driver CD say Version A11 so I included them in a folder called DP\S\D (for Dell) and added the apprpriate entries to the winnt.sif driver path and then I added the entries to the Dosnet.inf just in case too..........it WORKED! Hooray! I didn't add anything else to the txtsetup.sif file cause i didn't know how but it works so I'm guessing no changes there where required. Thanks Bashrat - for a great driver pack!!!!!!!! You Rock!
  22. Well....that didn't work.....I'm really suprised this is happening. I thought for sure the new driver packs would make this problem go away. The only thing I can think of now, is to try and incorporate the Dell drivers themselves but, I don't know how to do that yet. Any suggestions or pointers would be apprieciated.
  23. I am using the latest Driver Packs.....V 5.10. Still getting a BSOD everytime for the portcls.sys.........I'm going to try removing the DP\S\R entry in my winnt.sif file to try and get around the issue......
  24. I am having the BSOD while trying to use my unattended install disc in my Dell Laptop, Inspiron 5150 2.66 Ghz .... It uses the realtek AC 97 on an sigmatel 9750 audio controller and I cannot get by this screen.....I have used Bashrat's Driver packs V 5.10 and it is actually worse now. With version 4.11, I could restart and the setup would finish but now it BSOD's everytime. I have read that sound max has an issue here but I'm uncertain what I should do for my Dell since it has no sound max onboard. I can't even disable the onboard sound in the BIOS, as there is not way to do so since, it lists the audio controller but does not allow any changes to it. I noticed that Bashrat's audio pack readme says portcls.sys error fixed but it isn't for me! I hope someone here can help me as I don't want to have to remove the sound drivers from my disc because it works great for my desktop (which uses an Audigy2) I'm not sure what other info you may require...please ask and I will provide it. Thank you.... B of B
