I use a pc with no indexing service no system restore ( i use acronis bootable cd instead) no themes or visual candy options on no unneeded services (9 service allowed including dhcp all other service are disabled) no antivirus ( just use stict security on xp, firefox or opera 4 browser, and a rule based firewall) no apps based firewall ( use a rule based firewall with policies on port, my choice is black ice defender (rule based firewall use less system ressource ) And use nlite ! My system is very stable, what mgadallah said about instability if you turn indexing of is not true My system is very fast my boot time from bios screen to windows is 8 sec. My system is fully fonctionnal, except for printer, but I dont have one, so i print virtually to pdf. If, like me you are a gamer, you should like this. look a a screenshot for system ressource:

Opera is now a freeware, but last year it was not

TypSoft Ftp server is portable, free support resume and his only 1.5 meg installed. I prefer it over filezilla server. But both are great. Quick 'n Easy FTP Server is also a good standalone freeware, but with no support for resume.

I used nlite since the early beta version, and I dont understant why most of people ask questions about integratin ryan vm pack. It's a great pack for a unmoddified beginer xp cd, but for customised users it seem useless. I have a 180 mb nlite cd, And when I windows udapte, it only show me 4 relevant KB: Security Update for Windows Media Player 10 for Windows XP (KB917734) Update for Windows XP (KB900485) Security Update for Windows XP (KB912919) Security Update for Windows XP (KB896424) The vast majority of kb updates in ryan vm pack refer to removed services and removes software. So it's useless to 'update' them. I suggest you check it for you self. You will see that most Kb are related to IE, Outlook Express, and server service (fro example, telnet server) or to flaw only localy exploitable. So why use it with a slim down nlited cd ?

Did you remove some thing with nlite ? many kb are linked to component and services that can be removed by nlite. Then you dont need anymore thos kb. I personnaly dont use Ryan update pack, since my xp spk2 cd show only 4 KB missing in the windows updates section.

@Andromeda43 Why not use acronis instead ? (you dont need to install itm, I dont) And you dont need to delete the pagin file, just change it’s location to another partition. I don’t understand why you use sytem restore ! ( you dont need it if you use image cloning) My c: image is only 400 mb and it take me 50 sec to restore it.

google Mstscax.dll, you will see link to dl it put it in yout system32 folder, then try again. But you must had remove something in your nlited cd to get this error

You want your image to be clean so : -Defrag you C: partition -Clean the registry -run ccleaner or similar software Depending on your need you may want not to clone the paging file...

I use 2 nlited xp My version wich is about 180 mb, customised to my need and a General version because I dont want to call back from my friends,family,fof... I suggest you do the same. the size of my general edition is 200mb, but it does not include any extra software or unneeded KB. Many people blindy install all KB, it's so stupid some of them refer to service that are removed by nlite. other refer to IE or Outlook. Use Firefox and disable unneeded service and you will be able to drop the KB list by 90 %. I only use 4 KB. (and windows xp spk2)

This Edition is so up to date, That I have just tested All KB needed, it turn out I only need 4 !

AVG and antivir are both great, antivir is my choice. And by the way realtime scanning is for newbie who get infected by doing stupid stuff on internet (like usinge IE)

Its maybe DRm related, try to play with another software like winamp for instance.

I have just use nLite 1.0 RC8 with windows xp n edition, I confirmed it work well, My final build size was 189 mb. Thank again for nlite

did you make your nlite cd with the latest version of nlite ? Cause there where a bug once ago... Moi aussi je parles francais
