the immunize function in Spybot1.3 only caters for IE. Is there a way to immunize FireFox?

thanks for the link. looks like i asked at a good time eh!
  4. im doing all this on a home netwoek, no domain at all.
  5. well i managed to get it all working by copying the config.nt and autexec.nt files from a sp1 install! But now, after almost 2months of it working fine, i get the Autoexec.nt error again! What makes this even stranger is that i have once again copied the autoexec.nt file back to the system32 folder and reboot, only for it to dissappear, time and time again??? Why is it deleting the autoexec.nt file?

Good info here! Like to know when the fix comes out! Anyone like to comment on which is prefered and why, between Adaware and Spybot 1.3
  7. i think doing it this way ends up the same as going thru start/programs/accessories/system tools/scheduled tasks. or the long instruction:P 1. Open Control Panel 2. Double-click Scheduled Tasks 3. Double-click Add Scheduled Task 4. On the Scheduled Task Wizard dialog, click Next 5. Click Browse 6. In the Select Program to Schedule dialog, navigate to the windows\system32 folder 7. Select defrag.exe 8. Click Open 9. In the Scheduled Task Wizard dialog, type a name for the scheduled task (Disk Defragmenter, for instance) 10. Under Perform this task, select how often you wish Disk Defragmenter to run 11. Click Next 12. Set the time at which you wish the Disk Defragmenter scheduled task to run. This should be a time when your computer is on, but not in heavy use. 13. Select the frequency at which you want the Disk Defragmenter scheduled task to run (Every Day, Weekdays, or Every <N> days, where <N> is the number of days between scheduled runs) 14. Click Next 15. Enter a user name under which the Disk Defragmenter scheduled task will run. Note: This user must be an administrator on the local machine. 16. Enter the password for the user you entered in the previous step 17. Confirm the password for the user 18. Click Next 19. Check Open advanced properties for this task when I click Finish 20. Click Finish 21. In the Run text box, you should see the full path and command for defrag.exe. By default, this path is C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\defrag.exe 22. Append the drive letter for the drive you wish to defragment to the command in the Run text box. In a default installation, your Run command will look like this: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\defrag.exe C: 23. Click OK 24. In the Set Account Information dialog, enter and confirm the password for the user listed in Run as 25. Click OK Disk Defragmenter will now run as the specified user on the schedule you specified when you created the scheduled task. Can you guys pls try this on your PC, try to use my steps above. Thanks
  8. I had tried to be a part of the remote desktop group but i think you need to select that from a location then select a user, but i cant get any locations other than the pc i am in front of. It was only using the ip address that let me in, and only if i was a registered user on that pc with a password (as an admin)
  9. Great! Thanks for all your help!
  10. OK, i check to see if the 3389 ports were open and were. I can now get in via the ip address! Hooray! But i thought that if you have administrator rights on anyof the PCs on the network you can access the remote desktop, but i have tried this and unless i have myself set up as an admin with a password, it wont let me in! So, i can always keep myself as the admin on that PC but if i can avoid that, i would prefer it! Any more suggestions, this far down the track?
  11. I had done most of those steps, But i think the problem lies where i cant view other PCs on the network when trying to select the host PC. It only ever displays the actual PC i am on. I am using ZOne alarm (non pro) and have enabled our IP range as a trusted zone. I'll try disabling Zone alarm and see how i go! disabling Zone Alarm did not change anything!
  12. HOw about if i do this to hide the Admin (Me) then when i need to log in as the admin I can do tacticus trick! Is that feasible?
  13. im the admin on all the pc's and im on my laptop which uses a password. the remote pc, has me as the admin too! But i still get the message " the WORKGROUP workgroup/domain does not contain any terminal servers" Its becoming frustrating because they are all on XPpro sp2.
  14. how will this last one work for me? If it says dont show last user name?
  15. already done. Actually, after i select the workgroup, it doesnt even show the other PCs on the network and says there are no terminal servers available on the network or domain???
  16. I used remote desktop about a month ago and am trying to use it to access a new PC on the network but every time i try to connect it tells me that there are no Terminal servers on the network! But all PC are running XPpro sp2. i have gone blank. What am i missing??? Thanks
  17. thanks, i will try that today, looking down the track... How will i log back in (on the rare occasion)

    XP and PCMCIA slots

That option isnt available for the PCMCIA slot when u mentioned. Stil looking for an answer! Could i copy the PCMCIA file from 98 perhaps and swap it into XP?
  19. thanks again, I followed the instructions and it didnt give me any new options that werent already there. Im logged in as admin yet it wont kick off! Unfortunately i dont have a dual boot system.
  20. Hi, I am setting up a PC for my neighbour and have created users for the husband and one for the wife. But i am the admin and i dont want that to show up at login time. Is it possible to remove the admin from the regular user login screen?
  21. Thanks oftentired, but those instructions are out of date for SP2. Never the less, i was selecting the incorrect dfrg files. BUT now that i have selected the defrag.exe file, when i right click it in scheduled tasks, it quickly opens a command window then closes it within 1 second and displays that it has already run; which i can see and hear that it hasnt. What else can i try?
  22. Hi, im trying to set up a scheduled task to defrag the hard drive. However defrag is not a standard option, so i have selected the corresponding dfrg.msc file from the system32 folder to run at a scheduled time, but it wont run at all! How can i schedule a defrag?
  23. presumably internet access is not mandatory since most of the time PCs arent always connected to the Net right? So would i be safe just blocking it?
  24. Since downloading Zone Alarm, i have noticed that nearly all my programs try to connect to their main server when activated! Why does this happen?? Im talking about MS word, Excel, and other programs like Dreamweaver etc etc. im real curious!
