now its asking for me for the AUTOEXEC.NT file I will transfer that file too. Any idea how many files its going to ask for???
-
would that be a sure fix? I sure hope so... Please let me know! EDIT: I searched for it, but cant find it. Where else can i locate a copy of it? Can i just copy it from a nother PC???
-
the error is definitely related to the Asus Wifi driver, as I installed it again only to find the error again, then uninstall removed the error. BUT.... this driver worked fine under XP sp1. What could SP2 have changed to give that error now?
-
this problem occurs at start up, As mentioned earlier, it appeared after installing the Asus Wifi driver, but in my previous install it came up (hence another reason for the rebuild) I have done a system restore, which has momentarily saved me from another rebuild, but im just not sure what is triggering off the error!

i have un-installed the Asus Wifi driver but the warning still comes up??? Help. Thanks

i now get this message window that says It came up after installing Asus Wifi driver, but it never happened before???

The original order placed the OS on Cdrive. that order hasnt changed but somehow the drive letter has!
-
it wont let me change the boot or system drive letters? Any other way? As a fresh install altered the drive letters itself.

I had partitioned it with Partition Magic and performed a fresh install. now my local disk (which used to be C drive) is recognised as I drive??? How can I change this? Thanks

thanks, Would that be the only method to use? Im just thinking "What happens if the software wont even let you load, or install?" Is there any other ways around it? Just in case! Thanks

hi Jcarle, that link seems to bring up a page with hyperlinks to other links to searches. Is that the same page you get?
-
sounds logical, but they didnt make a win98 bootable floppy. Anywhere i can find the contents????

Hi Jcarle, I have to ask this stupid question. With no OS installed; how do i start DOS? atm its saying "strike F1 to retry boot , F2 for set up utilty" and F1 just beeps and repeats the same message! I havent tried your method yet, but I am i supposed to create those folders in my PC or in the machine i am rebuilding? Casue i can do all but the last step on my machine.

Ok heres all the specs. Its a DELL GX110 which is a P3 667Mhz with 128Mb ram, the floppy drive is basically dead. I know i can run XP on this no problems, but keeping in mind that this is really a clean out for them, so they have the 98se and office 2000 licences. So i am going to load all that back up for them. I have formated the 7Gb HDD now, (by putting it in my machine as an extra HDD and have formatted it. Now, I just tried to load 98se back in thier machine, but it doesnt appear to be a bootable disc. How else can i get 98se back on their HDD? Once that is all done, i'll load up NAV and Zone alarm for them. and schedule regular maintanance and updates.

I have loaded a copy of my XPpro but they dont want to spend the $$$ to upgrade to a their own licence of XPpro. I tried to run the DOS request of D:\>win98\format C: but that didnt work!

any help pls. I am rebuilding my neighbours PC which uses 98SE but like most weekend web surfers they have been plagued by virus' and trojans. I know i can re-install over the top, but ideally i'd prefer to format the HDD and start fresh. Although their Adrive doesnt work properly. What can i do. thanks

Hi everyone, In a fever rebuilding my test machine with XPpro SP2 and having an extrememly organised adn partitioned HDD (which i never used too before) I perform regular Disc clean ups and defregs. (infact I do this after I load any new software) My question now comes from one of the options when using the Disc Clean Up tool. This option is the Office Insstallation Files, which requires us to check or uncheck the box. I have chosen check to remove the installation files as the office 2003 components i want are installed. So, I really need to know, 1. if i should have left them alone and not deleted them, and 2. would this be the reason why I am not able to install any of the Office 2003 Service Packs? As the installation error that comes up says " the expected version of the product was not found on your system" or 3. could it be the fact that i have my OS and software on different partitions??? Thanks in advance!

Thanks Clueless, I have opted for all partitions to be on the default setting at this time. but was just curious since it offers other options. Thanks again

Hi, I have successfully moved My Documents for each "user" but I want to be able to move the SHARED Documents Folder. As I am trying to keep all my users data in a central location so that I can easily back it up or move it to another PC, if i need to do a rebuild! (Plus it will keep my OS partition neater!) Thanks

Thanks so much!

Sorry, yes, im refering to Hard drive when formatting it.

The situation is that i have XPpro SP1 installed on my PC, then i created a SP2 slipstream unattended disc to create a fresh install. When i rebooted and had the SP2 disc in, it asked if i wanted to boot from the disc, I click yes! It went throught the intial steps but did not show the Format screen at all. ( i have 3 partitions). It ended up installing on the 3rd partition and as such i had 2 partitions running XP, one with SP1 and the last with SP2. I tried to format partition 1 to no avail then, rebooted and then was able to format partition 1, finally. I then installed again from the CD onto partition 1 and formated partition3. Now when i boot up from the HDD a window asks me which OS do i want to run? XPprofessional or XPprofessional. The first one works and the second doesnt. How can i get rid of this??? Thanks.
