  1. no freezes during install. Nuance/Scansoft PDF Converter Pro 2.
  2. i am using an nLited and slipstreamed XPpro sp2 disk that is running well on 5 other machines on the network. Prior to loading the Nuance software, we did have a blackout! i will remove all cables and refit. although there is nothing that gets moved, i think its my only chance.
  3. After 16hours of stabel operation, the system has gone back to the same problem! Maybe i should pull it apart too! (clean out the dust!
  4. I just completed a fresh install... Thanks for your help anyway! How would i use something like Norton Ghost for something like this?
  5. Would there be a registry hack for making Norton move this folder? I have already changed the default location to the D:/Program Files.
  6. Will have to do that from now on. What will that actually let me do though? and can it be installed on a USB Flash drive?
  7. thanks for your help. looks like a rebuild again. Only built this one afew weeks ago too! bummer....
  8. Yes, it is the Recovery Console, and it lets me log into the C drive via a DOS style window. there are limited commands there. Also, i have check all cables, ram etc.
  9. when i pu the installation disk in, it only says 'press to boot from the CD' which i do, then it tries to install the whole OS again. edit. actually it has let me into recovery mode! But i have no idea what i do from here... Is there away to get it to boot into SAFE mode or run last know working configuration?
  10. What could be the fix for this? The last thing i did was install Nuance PDF Converter 2. I cant even boot into SAFE mode. Any quick help is greatly appreciated.
  11. Just revisiting this thread to see if anyone has found a way to move the location of the Norton Antivirus 2005 updates off the C drive. I am particularly refering to the following parts. C:/Program Files/Symantec C:/Program Files/Common Files/Symantec Shared
  12. what else could it be? The only other thing i have done is channge the drive letters. (and indicate that all programs install in the D directory) But i would have thought that WMP10 would have loaded into the C drive as its a windows component.
  13. Hi Sonic, I have already tried re-installing WMP10 but it fails as it recognises a new version. And Yes I have an nLited windows CD, but that disc works 100% on another PC. So i thought that it was an error with the XP setting rather than an nLite issue.
  14. I loaded WMP10 and altered a setting in 'Add Remove Programs' in the Windows components section i unticked the bit where is says Windows Media Player. I have re-ticked it, and even tried to re-install it but re-installing says that its already installed. What can i do? Title edited -- Please, use [TAGS] in your topic's title. 15. i havent been able to try the mstsc client across the internet. The only time i used XP's remote desktop was when i was within my lan.
  16. I have to restart the session of the remote desktop app as the https tunnel was broken. It lets me click the administrator user and log back in, after the wifi connection comes back on Note that the remote pc (whilst my wife is watching it) brings up the admin user logon window first, even though i can still work remotely for about another 20seconds. then i get discconnected and it says that the remote pc is offline. Generally then, i get my wife to enable the wifi again, and i can log back in!
  17. Hi, im using Windows XP Pro sp2, and have jsut started using a web based remote desktop application. The problem i get is that after about 5 minutes, the administrator logon window pops up and cancels my connection ( i suspec that it is also terminating my wifi connection too!) I dont have any screensavers activated at all. so what could be the problem here? Thanks
  18. How do i get my P4 3.0c Hyper threading cpu to show as 2 cpu's in XP pro SP2?
  19. Thanks, i will keep that in mind! Yes this works! Thanks Yes this also works! Thanks For the record, i never use Nero Express! And choosing 'CD Rom (boot)' was just a logical step that didnt suite this occasion. Never the less, the disc boots now and installed ok, but stability is my current issue. See this thread!
  20. Thats what i thought, but my first attempt was to use Nero burning Rom with the setting to burn a CDrom (boot) but that didnt work. I just tried this method, with Nero burning Rom set to CDrom (iso) and it just burnt the iso onto the disc, but it wont boot from CD drive. I have already configured the bios to boot from CD first. What else have i done wrong?
  21. Do i just burn the iso image to the CD (using Nero 6) or do i have to nominate in Nero that i want to make a bootable CD and then point to the iso image? Thanks
  22. Yes, all you have to do is open and forward port 1723. You will need to configure your software firewall to treat the VPN range as a local network. How hard is that going to be to get the software firewall to treat the VPN range as a local network? Where can i find instructions for that? Thanks!
  23. Unfortunately im not running Exhange 2003 on my home network. Ok, I know my desktop Pc's local IP address is on my home network, and i also know what is the IP address for my internet connection. I can enable port forwarding for port 3389 to the specific ip address on my PC. And i know how to configure the hardware firewall in the routers. So im 1/2 way there. In my case i use a Motorola wireless Cable Modem/router (192.168.0.1), which is connected to a Dlink wireless router with Printer server (192.168.1.1) then this is connected to my desktop via the ethernet port. Both the Motorola and Dlink have hardware firewalls and the desktop (say 192.168.1.111) has a software firewall. I can control each firewall individually. So i presume that my next step would be to open up port 3389 on both routers; then direct the motorola to direct that port to the Dlink router; then direct the Dlink to forward that port to my desktop PC. Configure the Zonealarm to open port 3389. I presume that just like any remote desktop connection i just log in with my username and password. Is that all the security that is offered? And is this considered vulnerable? (ie will this allow hackers an easy target?) Lastly, is it possible to do this over XP Pro's VPN capabililties?
  24. After learning about XP Pro's simple vpn capabilities, i was thinking about how i can access my Outlook remotely. Using my work desktop PC on the work internet connection, or using my Laptop on a wifi hotspot. thanks! Title Edited - Please follow new posting rules from now on. --Zxian
  25. The very odd thing is that this message has come up on my neighbours brand spanking new Acer desktop PC. It opens up in the Notepad window labelled desktop.ini-Notepad
