ok i did all of that and in the end...i still couldnt surf the net!!! i give up!! i forgot why im even made this thread!! oh yea, to increase dsl speed lol. thanks tho horsecharles.

thanks horsecharles!!! unfortunately i have skoo in 30 min so i gotta get ready. ill do wut u suggested later on the day i thought the max mtu was 1492? verizon and roadrunner isnt available here, but theyre available in the city next to where i live!! LOL. earthlink dial is available, not earthlink broadband. well i did install with their software but that slowed my computer down like crazy. then i found out the installation cd wasnt even necessary so i uninstalled everything the cd installed and my dsl still works fine! wow now i know 3 tweaking tools!! dr. tcp, cablenut and tcp optimizer!!!

i dont believe cox is available here. my only affordable broadband choices are adelphia cable and sbc yahoo dsl and sbc yahoo dsl is cheaper

i got sbc yahoo dsl and im in south california. and my home address is....ahha yea rite!! yup i just change back to "obtain ip automatically" and i can surf the web again

ok i added the address "192.168.0.2" and when i checked my properties, it had "manually configured", instead of "assigned by dhcp" but i couldnt surf. whenever i typed in a website, it would never go there wut happend

dsl reports?? i go to that site and i get lost haha!! yup im on xp pro sp1. guess the adapter thingy aint there so ur saying i should make up an ip address? ok i have the "obtain ip automatically". now i should instead choose "use the following ip address". wut about the dns server options on the bottom? should i leave that blank? and wut about the "advanced" option there? wow i never knew dsl would be so complicated!!! but hey, i love the speeds!!

yup 1.5 is the max that im supposed to get. about the other thing, i click on my lan and go to properties and it shows how long i been on, etc. theres another tab called "support". i click on "details" and then it has a "lease obtained" and "lease expires". the date for it changes/updates every 10 minutes. is that why dsl hangs or something? if i do wut u suggested, will the lease thing stop? see, im dumb at this stuff!!!!

ok my downloads speeds have increased. this is because i got dsl just last week and it says im supposed to leave modem on for 10 days straight to maximize connection. before, i had 384k downstream. and now, it increased to 1536k!!!! im getting around 150kB/s average!! to me, thats GREAT. oh yea sorry horsecharles i havent done wut u suggested yet. imma get to it when im not bizzy doing homework EDIT: u got me confused on that post. should i type in 192.168.0.2. or 192.168.0.1 cus the "1" part is my modem address and the "2" part....well its nothing here lol. wut will happen if i do wut u posted. will i have static ip or something?? SHOULD I DO IT?

ok i know this has been discussed over and over again a million times but i got nowhere else to go ok i just got dsl and its dl speed is 384-1500 and its ul speed is 128. if i remember correctly, theres 1 kilobyte in every 8 kilobits. if i have at least 384kb, im supposed to have 48 kB minumim!! but so far, ive been dling random stuff at places like download.com and betanews.com to test it and ive been getting 20kB average!! and when someone was sending me something in IM program, it was the same speed!! my dl and ul speed is same?? grr!! i dled cablenut and chose the "DANNJR_DSL_1500.ccs" one. then restarted. but so far, its still the same speed when dling stuff off websites. however, in p2p (edonkey for example), its recording speeds up to 37kB!! what gives???? how do i correct this? or is it supposed to be like this? p.s. how do i know if my dsl is pppoe?

ooops, my bad!!! thanks!!! i did read the description of it but its too long so i thought "eh, maybe this deletes compressed files. thanks for clearing that up!!

i ran disk cleanup and it showed 50,000 compressed files. i figured that if i checked it, it would delete them. isnt that wut disk cleanup is supposed to do? so if i run disk cleanup and it shows 50,000 compressed files, i should uncheck it? take a look at the pic. im supposed to uncheck it?? but if i dont, wont there be an excess amount of compressed files? wow i am sooo confused now !!! lol

thanks!! its uncompressing as im typing this... one question though....how did this start in the first place. i know i didnt choose to compress it.....well maybe i choose to compress while i was sleepwalking lol just kidding but seriously...does anyone know how it started? ....wow the uncompressing is taking a LONG time! btw, does this prevent new files from compressing.....when i type in "compact /U /I /A /S:\" i dont see it mentioning that no new files will be compressed. although it DID say that on the other one, which was "compact /U /S /A /I c:\" EDIT: i checked my mirc folder and theyre NOT blue anymore!!! theyre good ol BLACKENESE!!

yup there is a downside. it freaks me out and i could go crazy!!! lol ok i ran disk cleanup with compress files unchecked, rechecked my blue files and theyre still blue!!! *shivers* *scared* lol wont u get scared if u checked ur files one day and when u check them the next day, theyre a different color suddenly?? iwould have a heart attack!!! *ahhhh!!!* lol

yup, its unchecked any other suggestions
