  1. That is the worst mistake that people make. Most often when people have a heat problem in their system, they don't have enough cool air intake. Exhaust will only pull heat away but it won't help cool nearly as well as intake fans.
  2. Not again. How many times do we have to go over this? Research! They are NOT the same CPU, not even close. The Intel Xeon X5355 has a 1333MHz FSB, features uses less power at a TDP of 120W and uses lower voltage at 1.2V maximum. The Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 has a 1066MHz FSB, a TDP of 130W and a maximum voltage 1.372V. That goes without mentioning that the Xeon platform also supports things that you simply won't usually find in the mainstream market, such as PCI-X support and motherboards that support more then easily 16GB+ of memory.
  3. The one that started this topic, or the current one? (It changed again.) The one I liked was the one that was kind of diamond shaped with the four windows colors.
  4. Please read: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platf...PAE/pae_os.mspx Windows XP SP2 and later - AWE API and 4 GB of physical address space ... so again, what's the use of PAE?
  5. I actually like the current favicon.
  6. So what use is it to have PAE enabled on XP?
  7. We are the gnomes. We will take over the world.
  8. gunsmokingman... I'm in awe. You speak Batch like English is your second language...
  9. Gnomes are the secret ingredient!
  10. I built a 386 once with 12 sticks of ram. There were 4 on the motherboard and 8 on an expansion board and I never had an issue.
  11. It does matter. The SATA power connector provides the hard drive with 12V, 5V AND 3.3V power, which allows the hard drive to use less power when it can. The molex connector only provides 12V and 5V.
  12. I think the MSFN favicon should be a gnome.
  13. It depends if the manufacturer just split the amperage, which would mean there is no difference, or actually gave each rail dedicated parts, which would make a difference. It's a mixed bag as to what's better.
  14. DirectX is an API. It's an extension to whatever programming language you choose to use.
  15. Holding Shift didn't work? Perhaps we should put it up to a vote?
  16. The ToughPower 600W has 48A combined on the 12V rails.
  17. I've always lived by the same principale and it has saved me hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. Whenever you're going to buy a new system, spend top dollar on the motherboard, save on the rest if you have too. The motherboard is the foundation of your computer, it alone will determine just how far you can upgrade. Some people agree with me, others don't. This is just my opinion. And, still holding to my humble opinion, if you want the top motherboard in the LGA775 series and you don't mind spending top dollar, from ASUS, the top dog is the Asus Striker Extreme. It's expensive, but it's worth it.
  18. MCE is a joke anyway. It's just XP Pro with a fancy Windows Media Player thrown into it.
  19. There is no magical number, you simply can't quantify what to expect for salary without adding more information.
  20. If you notice, I didn't make a suggestion.
  21. Yes, the 12V amperages add up to calculate the power supply's wattage, however, they're usually divided amongst the connectors of the power supply. Hence why some of the higher class power supply identify which connectors belong to which voltage rail so that you can connect your components appropriately to distribute the load. As for the -12V, most power supplies all have 1A on it. I honestly don't even remember what it's used for.
  22. First off, everything I said is true. Second, I'm in the industry, you're just a kid. Third, google is not a reference, it's a tool. Fourth, as proof of concept compare the following... average salary in Idaho is $37,000/yr. Fifth, what people list as their rates that they charge their customers does not equate to what he can expect to earn as a salary.
  23. Things have gotten a lot better then they used to be. 64-bit support has gotten a lot more stable, and the technology isn't as new as people think it is. It's been implemented in Windows Server long before it came to the desktop.
  24. The links at the top of the forums, Forum Rules, Donate, Members, Calendar, Help, all open in a new window. Is it possible to fix that so that they just open in the current window? (IE: Remove target="blank")
  25. I don't think you read my post properly. Both hardware and SOFTWARE must be 64-bit, that would mean that Vista Business 32-bit will not address more then 4GB of ram and you will run into the issue mentioned in this thread.
