you dont get a choice in the uk even if you buy (well i didn't) as the modems are capped by the cable provider.

Rule of the day, Everyone should do this...... Before installing any new/untested s/ware or drives create a resore point then when it all goes tits you have a better chance of getting it all back...!! Here endeth todays lesson
-
uninstall the drivers, or what is always a good idea when installing new drivers or s/ware is to create a restore point before you install something new, then when it all goes tits you can run system restore. Regards, BAH

Here's something I stumbled across in a usenet group for XP. I haven't tried it but it sounds reasonable. Good Luck. this is for broad band connections. might work for dial up. 1.make sure your logged on as actually "Administrator". do not log on with any account that just has administrator privileges. to log in as an administrator: click on start->logoff->logoff in the logon screen hold Ctrl+Alt+Del. in the user field type 'Administrator' <-case sensitive. in the password field type the password for the administrator (if you dont have any leave blank. click ok. 2. start - run - type gpedit.msc 3. expand the "local computer policy" branch 4. expand the "administrative templates" branch 5. expand the "network branch" 6. Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left window 7. in right window double click the "limit reservable bandwidth" setting 8. on setting tab check the "enabled" item 9. where it says "Bandwidth limit %" change it to read 0 10. go to your Network connections (start->connect to->show all connections). right click on your connection then under the General or the Networking tab (where it lists your protocols) make sure QoS packet scheduler is enabled. 11. reboot if you want to but not necessary on some systems your all done. Effect is immediate on some systems. some need re-boot. This is more of a "counter what XP does" thing. In other words, XP seems to want to reserve 20% of the bandwidth for its self. Even with QoS disabled, even when this item is disabled. So why not use it to your advantage. To demonstrate the problem with this on stand alone machines start up a big download from a server with an FTP client. Try to find a server that doesn't max out your bandwidth. In this case you want a slow to medium speed server to demonstrate this. Let it run for a couple of minutes to get stable. The start up another download from the same server with another instance of your FTP client. You will notice that the available bandwidth is now being fought over and one of the clients download will be very slow or both will slow down when they should both be using the available bandwidth. Using this "tweak" both clients will have a fair share of the bandwidth and will not fight over the bandwidth. Regards, BAH

As far as i remember it repair's it...... why dont you just try a bit of user maintenance, scandisk, defrag, un-install any unwanted progs, check your drive and get rig of any temp files and s*** that is not required. that usually helps or bin it all reinstall OS and all apps when your happy with it burn a ghost image on to cd, then the next time you get in theis position just shove the disk in and get it all back from the image. http://www.symantec.com/sabu/ghost/ghost_personal/ Regards, BAH

You could give us the specs of the equipment that may help with the desision....? I have always found if the platform you are using is working ok then just put a couple of machines on the network with the newly selected OS installed and test them until you are happy its what you want, rather than the big bang approach and swapping them all over one weekend and find on monday morning its all gone to s***. Regards, BAH

Creative have it minus 2 apps The XP driver download allows the core Creative applications to work under XP. However two of the applications will require further updates. These applications are "Creative Recorder" and "Creative Launcher". If you wish to use the "Creative Recorder" application under XP a separate update is required and this will be available on an XP update CD in late November ( "Creative Launcher" is not currently XP compatible).
