Actually, a 1.72GB .iso is as small an x64 .iso as you are ever likely to get without some serious voodoo. The smallest W7 x64 .iso I was ever able to obtain with Vlite was around 2.1GB with integrated updates and drivers with DismTool before hand. I managed to get a 1.65gb iso with RT7 lite, but the end result was not practical, as a good deal of my apps require 3.5 .NET. The advanced option is probably impractical for *most* users. Winsxs cache removal should probably be a hidden option, as per Vlite, as it's only going to mess with most users. But just my opinion.

I have two suggestions for adapters of the new 1.08 build: 1) If you you have applications that rely on the .NET frameworks, do not remove the winsxs cache. While most of my .NET dependent applications now work under 1.08, there is one that does not. In addition, .NET 4 will not install after cache removal. 2) Do not remove any Tablet PC features. Otherwise you'll throw an exception error, and you will not be able to complete your .iso. This is new to this build. Ben is aware of this issue and will address it in the future. Good Luck

Any ideas about this one, Ben? I tried different options, but this is the second time I ran into this one. ************** Exception Text ************** System.InvalidCastException: Conversion from string "c:\users\cary\appdata\local\temp" to type 'Boolean' is not valid. ---> System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format. at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ParseDouble(String Value, NumberFormatInfo NumberFormat) at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToBoolean(String Value) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToBoolean(String Value) at RTWin7Lite.RT7LiteHome.permanentlyRemove() in D:\Ben\4-8-2010\Final_state\RTWin7Lite\RTWin7Lite\RT7LiteHome.vb:line 45335 at RTWin7Lite.RT7LiteHome.btn_log_Commit_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) in D:\Ben\4-8-2010\Final_state\RTWin7Lite\RTWin7Lite\RT7LiteHome.vb:line 3237 at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mevent) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ButtonBase.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)

Oops...just had an exception. Haven't had one of these since 1.04 ************** Exception Text ************** System.InvalidCastException: Conversion from string "c:\users\cary\appdata\local\temp" to type 'Boolean' is not valid. ---> System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format. at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ParseDouble(String Value, NumberFormatInfo NumberFormat) at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToBoolean(String Value) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToBoolean(String Value) at RTWin7Lite.RT7LiteHome.permanentlyRemove() in D:\Ben\4-8-2010\Final_state\RTWin7Lite\RTWin7Lite\RT7LiteHome.vb:line 45335 at RTWin7Lite.RT7LiteHome.btn_log_Commit_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) in D:\Ben\4-8-2010\Final_state\RTWin7Lite\RTWin7Lite\RT7LiteHome.vb:line 3237 at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mevent) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ButtonBase.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)

Here's my last one. Mind you, this is x64, and I did it pretty conservatively because I had been having an issue installing .net Framework 4. It came in at 2200mb. but it's chocked full of updates and about 120mb of drivers. X86 should be much less than 2000mb. I'd advise you to wait for 1.08 if you possibly can; with winsxs cache removed using a 1.08 pre-release, I had an x64 image come in at 1650mb. However, it breaks .net. I think that is supposed to be fixed in the final release. Otherwise, I would not suggest removing the winsxs cache with 1.07. Lastsession.inf

Ben: Can you unlock the search service from the search "feature?" This way, the search function and search tab in folder options would still be operable, but you could have the option of disabling the search service in order that indexing does not take place. As it is, it is impossible to disable the search service if the search feature is enabled. Thank you!

It looks like you are missing chunks of .NET, which may be a prerequisite for your application. Tell me, did you tick "winsxs cache" for removal? I've had a similar issue with the latest beta, and Ben indicates this should be resolved in the near future. If you absolutely can't wait for the next release, you can try to untick the winsxs cache removal option and rebuild your .iso with the same options.

Stuck at "Setup is preparing your desktop"
Bilar Crais replied to _matt's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Try unplugging your LAN connection and see what happens. I used to have an issue when preparing Windows images with Vlite, where if I didn't unplug my LAN cable, I would never get to the desktop. Once you get to your desktop, you can plug it back in. -
