  1. I don't recall turning it on in Nlite before, but I can't see the client, so I'm guessing it's enabled. Is there a way to turn it off easily? thanks! Jason
  2. Here's mine. As I mentioned above, if I use the same source and do *nothing* but integrate RyanVM's updates using the integrator, it's all good. As soon as I nLite the sucker to remove garbage, the problems arise. As an aside, I notice toward the bottom it's got some settings listed for unattended and for the network adapters, which I did NOT set. I have my own custom winnt.sif that has the settings for the unattended install just the way I want them. I'm not sure, is it rude for me to be glad I'm not the only one with this problem? 3. OK, so I'm running the latest nLite. What I did yesterday was use nLite to integrate the RyanVM update pack and a bunch of other RVM updates, then I installed it into a VM machine and it listed off a stack of missing files. So I went back to the drawing board and did it again, but *without* the RVM updates, and I got the same result. I went to bed. This morning I got up, downloaded the RVM integrator, through a bunch of updates into an *original* XP SP2 disk, created an ISO, installed it into VMWare--zero problems all the way through. Cool, I thought, so I fired up nLite, used it to remove components and apply tweaks to my already patched XP SP2, made an ISO, loaded it into VMWare and then--the same files as before are missing. The files missing are: AMDK6.SYS, AMDK7.SYS, ARP1394.SYS, CRUSOE.SYS, KS.SYS, NDISUIO.SYS, NIC1394.SYS, P3.SYS, PARPORT.SYS, PID,DLL, PROCESSOR.SYS, SONYDCAM.SYS, STREAM.SYS, TUNMP.SYS, WZCSAPI.DLL, WZCSVC.DLL, MSH263.DRV, USBINTEL.SYS, NTKRNLPA.EXE and MOUCLASS.SYS. Most of these appear to be processor drivers, I think (AMDk6,7, crusoe, etc), which I definitely didn't select for removal. Same with USBIntel and certainly anything to do with the NTKRNL, which just seems silly. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? It's *consistently* occurring solely when I use NLite 1.0 final to remove components and add tweaks. thanks! Jason
  4. I'm setting up a render farm, and it looks like I'll have to use WinXP as the OS for the farm for the time being since I really don't have time to learn Linux. I'm thinking of using nLite to strip Windows down to the barest of bare essentials, and wondered if anyone had done such a thing and if there were any pitfalls you could warn me about in advance. Basically I just need: Ability to join domain (single user account) Ability to render DirectX/OpenGL Ability to be seen from the network Ability to write to remote shares I *think* that's pretty much the long and short of it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Jason
  5. Just FYI, we just finished the competition during the above specified weekend, and found out yesterday that we're officially in the top 20! W00t! Thursday we'll find out exactly how we did, but at the least we know for sure that we whipped 44 other teams who entered Jason
  6. Tools >> Prefs >> Advanced >> Shortcuts >> Keyboard. And set it to however you want, after which you could switch between opera default/customized & your firefox-like shortcuts. Incidentally, ctrl+enter & ctrl+shift works as you would expect, in the opera9 tp2 build, so your broken deal is back in the running! Cool, I'll give it a try when I get home today! Jason
  7. You can learn maya's *Basics* in a few hours, really. 3DBuzz has some good free tutorials (video) you can download that will help you get started. You could also buy Unreal Tournament 2004 DVD edition or the Editor's Choice edition and get a DVD FILLED with tutorials, most of which focus on Maya and UT2004. The weekend of February 17th-19th I worked with my team, Ugly Baby Studios, to produce a 3 minute, 25 second animated film for the A3F 2006 film festival. We finished the film including animation and rendering (not including modeling and texturing, which we did in advance) in less than 48 hours. Jason
  8. Have they made it so you can have the *CHOICE* yet of whether to use Opera style shortcuts or IE/Firefox style? Specifically the CTRL+Enter=http://www.YOURURL.Com, CTRL+SHIFT=http://www.YOURURL.Net, etc.? I like the speed and features of opera, but the inability to date to have a *choice* of how those shortcuts work is a deal breaker for me. Jason
  9. this topic needs a bump, it took me forever to find it! Jason
  10. Sorry, I'm new to the whole Winrar SFX scripting thing, but how would you setup the commands? I understand the MSI portion, I don't know how it works within a WinRAR SFX, though. Thanks! Jason

  13. Earlier this year the Ugly Baby Studios team (myself and 3 other geeky folks) entered the first annual A3F--Almost Famous Film Festival, in Phoenix, Az. The A3F works like this: You show up at the launch party on Friday night, where you're given a set of guidelines. This year they involved a theme for the story, a line of dialog that had to be in the film, and a prop that had to be in the film. The '06 fest will follow a similar format. For 2005 we created a short animated film in 48 hours using Illustrator/Flash/Photoshop. All in all we did really well, and got an Honorable Mention. Not as good as we hoped for, but better planning could have helped, as we went in dry and built 100% of the artwork from scratch. Anyway, the 2006 A3F is coming up during the weekend of February 17th-19th, and the plan this year is to do an animated short, but all in 3D. In order to pull it off, the plan is to build a stock library of objects, all fully textured, and a stock library of common animations. We'll obviously have to do *some* custom animations, given that we can't predict what the theme or dialog will be, and we'll probably have to build one custom model and texture, since we can't predict what the prop will be, but aside from that we think we can build a library of common materials so that instead of creating artwork, we'll just be assembling it into scenes. In order to avoid the problem of rendering time, the short film will be built entirely within the Unreal Engine Runtime and then exported to a Quicktime or AVI format for editing in premiere. To pull this off properly, we need to begin planning and building assets right now, and we need to test methodologies by building from 1-3 animated shorts using this method between now and the time of the festival. I've currently got 4 people onboard, but we'd like to add some new team members to help spread out the workload. We're all based in Southern California, but those based in or near Phoenix Arizona are more than welcome as well. Indeed, anyone who'd like to contribute models or animations would be welcome to join the team; come the weekend of the festival I expect that 5-7 of us will go to Phoenix to do the actual construction of the animated short, since too many more than that may just clog the workflow (though that could change if we see that we can get a group that can work really well with each other). If we place well (the awards Ceremony will happen in March 2006, with a theatrical viewing of all movies submitted) and we're agreed that we're happy with the work, we can then submit our movie to other festivals across the country. In addition to this, if you're interested in writing--news, reviews, editorials, tutorials, etc., our website is an E3 approved media outlet and our members go to E3. We did our first E3 back in May (obviously) and it was absolutely awesome. We expect to cover E3 2006 thoroughly as well, and we're actively looking for people to join our ranks for this and other projects. If you're interested, please drop me a line and let's get the ball rolling! You can visit our site and register to post in the forums (we don't do spam, fear not : ). I hope to hear from you soon! 14. Yeah... Boomerang's are great, aren't they? It's not a boomerang, man, it's a double-ended vibrator PS3-The console of choice for a new generation of Lesbians! Sony-Purveyors of fine Lesbian sex toys. Personally, I'm going to pass on 360 for the moment, snag a Revolution at launch, and when PS3 launches, I'll buy a 360. It's pretty well a lock-in that Xbox 360 will have not only the better price, but the better library of games, what with the second generation of software hitting at about the same time as the PS3 launch. Since there's no significant difference in the hardware between the two machines, it's obvious enough that Gen2 360 games will look and play much better than Gen1 PS3 games. By the 3rd gen of both systems I doubt we'll ever see a significant divergence in graphics between the two again. I'll snag PS3 when MGS4 comes out, but given Sony's track record with releasing junk electronics, I wouldn't touch a launch-window PS3 with a 50% discount. Jason
  15. The new one, 8.0.4, appears to be the first *decent* release of Netscape in close to a decade. Remember the days when Netscape was actually *better* than IE? You know, before IE became free and Netscape became a bunch of p***ant crybabies who wanted to sob to the government instead of build a decent browser? Thank goodness AOL bought them out. The new Netscape is based on Firefox, but with the cool ability to switch to the IE rendering engine if the FF engine doesn't work. *Very* nice. Jason
  16. In the first place, I'm rarely ever at the XP forum to begin with. In the second, I DID add something of value, with a brief overview of WHY they don't make VMWare for non-NT or Linux systems. Those are good reasons, and they're worth knowing. Jason
  17. Perhaps because Windows Non-NT OS's are junk? Seriously, A VM software needs excellent support for things like Protected Memory Access, robust scheduling of system resources, etc., none of which are items that a Non-Linux, Non-Windows NT based OS can provide. Windows 9x/Me are basically junk. Jason
  18. Hear-hear, man; I'm disinclined to help based *solely* on the crappy method of communication. Jeez! Try speaking ENGLISH rather than the Ebonics crap and maybe someone can stand looking at your thread long enough to compose a helpful reply! Jason
  19. Oh, I'd say MGS3 is the single best piece of storytelling in a console game this generation. I'm eager for part 4, and in fact, I'll be waiting on that game's release before I buy a PS3. I fully expect the game to be delayed at least a YEAR after the PS3 launch, so it's likely we'll see a PS3 price drop by then! Jason
  20. Oh, the activation scheme is minimal and easy to circumvent, man Just get yourself a corporate copy and use that (make sure you do buy a legitimate license for XP Pro, though). Right now XP is the best gaming OS, period. Jason
  21. You know, I *like* that idea and I really hadn't thought of it. MS's HD-DVD support and refusal to support BluRay might actually hurt that format's chances! Cool! Jason What's funny is that I remember a year ago when MS pushed back Vista (then just Longhorn) to 2006 release, people were p***ing and moaning that they shouldn't have to wait 5 years between OS releases. Now all of a sudden it's too soon, LOL Poor Microsoft just can't win sometimes, hehe Jason
  22. Is there a release available to try out yet? Jason
  23. True, but I figured that with all the experts here there's a pretty good chance someone will know something and could maybe make some recommendations. I certainly know what my *requirements* are, I just need to see which solutions end up meeting the majority of those requirements. Jason
  24. Oh, that's too bad they got rid of the adaptive. I wonder what the ratio was of people passing to failing within the first 20. Ah, well, still, 55-60 in 90 minutes isn't so bad. Now, the *multi-page* questions in the Active Directory Infrastructure test...*those* were a nightmare Jason
  25. LOL, I wish. We're talking with a rep at Insight and we get a gorgeous list of talking points, but ask a technical question and the rep knows squat, heh. Jason
