I don't have a solution to your problem. But I have resized partitions plenty of times using Norton PartitionMagic 8.0.5 and I have never had a problem. This is what I do to make sure it runs smoothly: 1) Run comprehensive Scandisk on all partitions that will be affected. This will eliminate any potential errors. 2) Resize partition from DOS, using DOS version. 3) Run comprehensive Scandisk to make sure everything occurs as it was supposed to. 4) Defrag all partitions affected. Question: how did your drive become corrupted? Did you run scandisk and it found errors or simply chkdsk?

Third party drivers don't work as well as your original motherboard drivers. You'll needs to download your SATA/RAID drivers from Dell website and copy the SATA/RAID drivers to a floppy and use those. I've recently bought a Maxtor SATA drive and did the same for the ASUS motherboard.

I haven't found a fix yet. The only thing that seems to work is to integrate (slipstream) 7.0.5 update to the installation of 7.0 and install the slipstreamed version. I haven't had a problem after I did this. If this problem occurred, you cannot simply uninstall and reinstall. That does not and has not solved the problem. I had to revert to a state when Acrobat was not installed.

[Question] Remove Windows Update Uninstall Information
spacesurfer replied to spacesurfer's topic in Windows XP
There are no adverse effects of this, I presume? I thought there was some function from within windows that allowed you to purse those files. -
Yeah those are compressed files. How did you get them? You probably ran Disk Cleanup with the option to compress old files to save space.

Does anyone know how to remove the folders that are created in your windows directory after installing windows update? I believe the folders store uninstall information. Since I'm not having any problems, I will not be uninstalling those updates and wish to remove them to free space. I searched this site but didn't find anythign. Normally, these folders are named like $NtUninstallKBXXXXX$ and so on for Windows 2000 but the naming is similar for Windows XP. Please NOW in Microsoft Windows XP section, use [TAGS] in your topic's title. See rules --Sonic

What operating system are you using? If win xp, then do a thorough scan of the drives (with all options checked using scandisk) that are being scanned on startup from within windows. if the drive or partition is your os drive or partition, then let it do a thorough scan on startup.

Bootable Ghost CD to deploy images - GUIDE

You can add a pause command, but it only takes effect once you have started the boot process from the CD. What the others are trying to do is add a pause before you choose which device to boot from. -
Bootable Ghost CD to deploy images - GUIDE

How did you make a bootable ghost dvd if your dvd rom drive isn't supported by norton ghost? That doesn't seem possible. Also, do you have a DVD recorder or just a DVD-Rom drive that is not capable of burning DVDs? If you have a recorder: If your dvd rom drive isn't supported by Ghost natively, you need to create a boot disk with CD-ROM drivers such as the Win98 boot disk (it will work fine). Once your CD/DVD-rom is recognized in DOS, then run ghost. Ghost will allow you to restore images, but it will not allow you to create an image directly on the DVD because the DVD drivers were loaded by DOS, not by the Ghost program itself. So, create an image on your hard drive then burn the image in windows. Did you use Ghost to burn the images directly from within the program or did you create the images first, then burn the images using third-party programs like Nero or Easy CD Creator? -
I integrated by RAID drivers with nLite and it wouldn't recognize my hard drive. I had to press F6 and that worked. I'm afraid you may have to try the floppy disk option. If not floppy, make a BartPE disk. It has a windows installer. It is easier to integrate your SATA/RAID/SCSI drivers in BartPE. Then run BartPE from CD and then install XP. Or you may consider UBCD4Win. For me, my drivers didn't integrate with nLite but work fine with BartPE.

Norton PartitionMagic 8.0 Bootable CD
spacesurfer replied to ArmondSooksians's topic in Software Hangout
Yes, the mscdex.exe and other *.sys files for config.sys file. Without these on the floppy image, you won't be able to access the extra files on your CD-R. -

You can add as much data to you boot CD as you want to fill it up. What Nero does is it "emulates" a floppy. So, the 2.88 mb image is assigned the A drive and seen as a floppy drive. The rest of the data is on your CD. Therefore, you have to have the CD-ROM drivers to see the other data on your CD as a regular drive. -
some programs like microsoft streets and trips checks the cd label for the correct cd. i tried it with a different label and it wouldn't work. then i changed the label and it worked.

Norton PartitionMagic 8.0 Bootable CD
spacesurfer replied to ArmondSooksians's topic in Software Hangout
Use WinImage to convert the first floppy image (.IMA format) from 1.44 mb to 2.88 mb. Then inject all files from floppy 2 to the new image 2.88 mb image.. You'll have to modify the autoexec.bat file to get rid of lines searching for floppy 2. Then use Nero or other burning software to make bootable CD and use the 2.88 mb floppy image as the source. You can add other files as necessary. -
After installing XP, did you update with sp1 or sp2 patches? if so, you're original cd will not work. Did you try pointing to the system32 folder for the files it looks for instead of the cd? Sometimes, the files are still kept in that folder.

is the cd label of your iso the same as the cd label of the actual cd? if there is a difference, it may not run.

If you uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" you will be able to view those files. Then you can copy them, delete them, etc. -
Bootable Ghost CD to deploy images - GUIDE
spacesurfer replied to dlevens's topic in Software Hangout
Again, as someone mentioned, autoexec.bat, config.sys, io.sys, msdos.sys, and command.com are hidden **system** files. even if you show hidden files, you won't be able to see the hidden **system** files. But they are there. the only files you really need are cd1.sys and mscdex.exe. MSCDEX.exe is included on win95 or win98 boot disks. try to get your hands on one of those. the cd1.sys files is needed to load cd-rom drivers. win95 or win98 boot disks include alternatives cd1.sys. if those work for you, then you don't need cd1.sys. -

[Help] - Streets and Trips 2006 Install (Run CD not detected)
spacesurfer replied to MrChris's topic in Windows XP
If the program allows you to make a DVD, I'd let the program do it. I actually had the ISO's of the two CD's that I combined. Some programs recognize where the program is running from (hard drive of cd-rom drive), and it won't let you run from hard drive. Therefore, you'll never get a "browse path" box to point to the hard drive. Also, these programs look for the correct CD label. -
[Question] - How to clean the pagin file once ?
spacesurfer replied to albator's topic in Windows XP
Just wanted to make sure everyone is clear about the pagefily and Ghost Images. Norton Ghost 2003 and 8.0 both skip the pagefile when creating images. Here's how I figured: After installing Windows XP (clean installation), I created a Ghost Image. The size of the image was 630 mb. I explored the files with Ghost explorer and noticed that pagefile.sys was listed as one of the files with its size being 740 mb. To me, it's just impossible to have one file in the image 740 mb and the image size to be 630 mb. Then, I made images before deleting pagefile and after deleting pagefile and both times, the image size didn't change. Therefore, there's no need to delete the pagefile with Ghost images. (Basically, disregard my previous post about deleting pagefile. There's no need.) -
[Help] - Streets and Trips 2006 Install (Run CD not detected)
spacesurfer replied to MrChris's topic in Windows XP
Yes, you can combine the two CD's. I have combined both into one DVD and it works fine. Copy all contents from CD2 to CD1. CD2 may have files that are in CD1 but they are exactly the same. So can overwrite them but to save time, don't overwrite them. Make sure all files from CD2 are on CD1 keeping the folder structure the same. In the root directory of CD1 and CD2, there are autorun.ini files that are not similar. Keep the autorun.ini files from CD1, not CD2. Also other files in root of CD2 that are similar in CD1 do not overwrite those. **** MOST IMPORTANT: Make sure the CD label is that of CD1. ****** The CD label is how it recognizes whether the correct CD is inserted. (I think it's GEONA13. I'm not at home so I can't confirm the label.) Then create an iso of all files in CD1. I would test it out with a virtual cd-rom program before burning to DVD. Let me know if any problemos arise. -
This is Zxians cure all to all problems, the wonder remedy, the magic bullet. You get the point. You have to admit that this works for most problems regarding corrupted files, missing files, etc.
