it can use more ram than it has with memory paging with uses your hard drive as memory. besides pale moon has an optimized version for legacy CPUs witch means it runs easier using protocols native of those CPUs.
-
Hey if you like firefox but, hate that it uses 2 gb of ram if you leave it open all the time check out Palemoon it's a version firefox optimized for windows, it even has version OPTIMIZED FORE PENTIUM 3,4 AND ATHLON XP!!! On top of this it works exactly as the regular fire fox even the addons i am currently using it with kernel ex runs smooth other browsers would lock up so i got tired of it and got kernel ex.

prehaps kernel ex is missing some APIs to allow it to read the correct version on certain programs?
-
even if it did work with kernel ex, it doesn't even work on mac some times let alone windows oses. it's unstable if you ask me. Sorry to add to the crapp pile and sound like a downer.
-
would kernel ex help or would just be a garbled mess?
-
sweeeeeeeet, i wasn't sure if it was still maintained. now the question is where do we find the 4.8 installer?
-
thanks for clarifying

firefox can take over a gig. man did things start running faster after killing it off. grant it i only have had that happen on xp.

hhhmmmm, the results on the anti male ware site are interesting since Panda and Eset NOD32 failed i put panda on a machine with avg and it found several hundred thing avg missed. alot of people claim by Eset NOD32 that and avast and i think panda too on a PC enthusiast forums i use http://www.overclock.net/ EDIT: Softpedia did a review of a dr.web product http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/windows/Dr-WEB-CureIt-Review-37174.shtml

interesting, it makes me wonder about different things like running newer anti virus. or if it affects patches sounds like a fully patched 98se is required first wich i have. i wonder how ram hungery the newer internet browsers are?

Compatible Hardware with Windows 9x
cdoublejj replied to galahs's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
You can add to the the list the Toshiba 2805-s503 using the me drivers it works great for 98se. also the Microsoft MN720 wifi adapter it even has the software for 98 wifi support. works great i think it might have been designed for 98. are thee drivers for the intel 855PM chipset? think i might have found some http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Product_Filter.asp?ProductID=939 I think i might be able to get 98se to work on the the Tecra M2 as well. -
so kernel ex doesn't make 98 use more ram or cpu speed. is it just set of files new programs are dependent on?
-
turns out mine is 10.54 i could have swore the web site just said 10.60 maybe it was just rounded.
-
Why the lovely 98SE with all the updates from the Ms.
-
10.60 runs for me with out kernel sanders. lately it locks up more often i think if i let it sit long enough it works. i might down grade to 10.54. or switch to FF3.0 but, i'm guess opera uses less ram?
-
the new opera asks to replace the Msimg32.dll with the one from ME. is there newer a file i can use? i seems to work just fine.
-
well i had problem after problem with the last drive i ended up RMAing it. it is going to find a coz yhome in a Toshiba R15. I originally was gonna load a good chunk of my music collection on my 98se laptop. i think i'll stick with games and maybe xubuntu.
-
Thanks for the info. sounds like i could get away with a 120 as well.
-
if i have 100gb drive. i tried a 320gb before it didn't work as well so i put it in a newer laptop. any how do i need the large disk drivers for a 100gb ide?

installing to 110gb partition, couldn't find good info
cdoublejj replied to cdoublejj's topic in Windows 9x/ME
well i managed to get ME install yesterday. when trying to over write with 98se it refused and told me i needed an upgrade. i used to be able to install98 and have it boot however it stopped booting after install so i tried the Toshiba me restore disk. is the any draw back from Me other than more ram usage? i think the ram usaged might make it or break it when trying to run cutting edge games of the time. the ram is maxed out at 384mb. -
any one tried steam lately if i had a running 98 system i would try. maybe it's still "Steam Engine (reason - artificial block, two missing exports)"

it is indeed pata. the problem is now even after reformatting i can't get win 98 to boot it won't even try the bios acts as if it doesn't see any thing, so installed ubuntu grub error 18. maybe the drive is bad? i've install98 like 5 times now at least before i could get it to boot.
