The Solution for Seagate 7200.11 HDDs
jaclaz replied to Gradius2's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Check connections, power and GROUND. Do loopback tests on your adapters, read here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...mp;#entry867354 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...mp;#entry854447 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...mp;#entry834315 jaclaz -
Completely OT , but since this thread is more about fears and angryness about missing support for not-prime-time OS's, just for the record and to vent a bit , I am seriously thinking about "leaving for good" AVG, which has otherways served me well in the last few years because their "geniuses" decided to drop compatibility alltogether with NT 4.00 and also for Windows 2000 unless it is updated to SP4 AND to the post-SP4 Update Rollpack. Besides the above, the new version is a real resource hog. This "smart" Commercial strategy which was NOT properly announced in advance, has left a couple of NT 4.00 machines of mine potentially unprotected for several days, until I acknowledged the fact that the running Antivirus wouldn't get anymore updates from the grisoft Server, and I had to quickly change antivirus. I still have two laptops that are runnning Win2K SP3 as something in SP4 caused problems that I will have to either take days to troubleshoot the issue with SP4 or change Antivirus on them as well. @frogman It is just like Vitalstatistix: http://www.asterix-international.de/asterix/characters.shtml I don't think the sky will fall on our heads. And hopefully "tomorrow" 7-zip will support .zipx AND remain Win98 compatible. jaclaz

Well,it has been posted here also: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=105980 http://www.msfn.org/board/slipstream-SP3-i...p2-t112325.html though reports are controversial... There is (maybe was) a report which I can only find through Google cache: http://209.85.135.132/search?q=cache:DNIt2...pidgen.dll+msfn where some other files are mentioned. Maybe DPCDLL.DL_ ? http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128930 jaclaz

I am not trying to make any point. You made a question (pretty much conjectural BTW and IMHO ): I am completely missing the connection between the fact that adding support for .zipx may cause the end of current supported OS by the app, and expressed my perplexity, no more, no less. The only known fact is that Igor Pavlov is aware of the problem and that he may add support to the .zipx format, as per given links, I guess that if and when this will happen, then we will see if support to Windows 98 will be kept. As said, my personal advice if you are interested in such features, would be to post on the 7-zip Forum saying so. jaclaz

NOT OK, , now besides the re-login, the "Initializing attachments" has resumed it's NOT working status with Opera. jaclaz

Things appear to be in the works : http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=7488010 http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=7498208 http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=7488138 http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=7488238 I guess one should give Igor Pavlov some time, the specs are public: http://www.winzip.com/comp_info.htm You may want to issue on the said Sourceforge thread a request, so that the importance of adding the format to 7-zip is notified to to Igor. jaclaz

Drive order. First Disk (the internal one the BIOS booted from) is normally rdisk(0) First partition on First disk (usually the booting one) is multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\xxxx If you have a single hard disk, the second one will be the USB stick, thus rdisk(1). First partition on Second disk is multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\xxxx If you have two internal hard disks, the USB will become third, thus rdisk(2). First partition on Third disk is multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\xxxx Be aware that on PC's where those internal USB adapters for memory cards are installed, the above may not be true, and the drive number may be shifted. You can use the dd version by John Newbigin: http://www.chrysocome.net/dd Together with this small batch: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8219 In this sample output: The USB external (Removable) stick is bolded italic and is multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(6)partition(1)\xxxx as the drives are "shifted" by the 4 devices of the adapter. jaclaz

As always a bit off-topic, (but not much ) the re-login problem still appears, though seemingly in a non reproducible manner, most probably because the Admins are working on it while online , the good news is that now Opera - that some time ago had problems with "Initializing attachments" - has resumed working properly with them. jaclaz

The Solution for Seagate 7200.11 HDDs
jaclaz replied to Gradius2's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
More or less it should mean that the contacts AFTER REMOVING the cardboard are NOT making contact properly. The suggested solution is to press slightly the board with a finger (obviously through some insulating material or with a rubber glove/finger protection) in the area above the contacts to make them "touch" and re-issue the F3 2>U command. If you have VERY steady hand you can very carefully untighten a bit the surrounding screws and re-tighten them. A good idea would be, before trying this, and with no power connected, to disassemble again the board and to thoroughfully clean the contacts with a specific contact cleaner on both board and drive and use a thinner cardboard/plastic insulator. (if using a plastic card be VERY careful about statics) jaclaz -

How to install Windows from USB- WinSetupFromUSB with GUI
jaclaz replied to ilko_t's topic in Install Windows from USB
From what you report I may only guess: that the MSI Wind needs a proprietary driver for Mass Storage Devices (does it have a SATA disk?) that you haven't integrated in the Source the appropriate Masss Storage Device Driver The BTS is a pre-packaged set of drivers that cover most hardware: http://driverpacks.net/ it's up to you to: find out whether it includes the appropriate driver for your hardware decide whether using it (thus adding support to a vast amount of hardware but "fattening" the install source or if you just want to "plainly integrate" just the needed driver On the other hand, you may try to follow this "specific MSI WIND" step by step tutorial (for the part regarding preparing the source): http://forums.msiwind.net/windows/how-onec...post-t1337.html and later either use the "other" method: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=111406 (illustrated in the tutorial) or use this WinsetupFromUSB with GUI jaclaz -
@amigafan See if this works for you: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/2227/get-th...u-in-windows-7/ http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-deskto...start-menu.html @all May I suggest that the scope of this topic is to help the OP to solve a problem (as opposed to commenting how the problem is a not-existing one or that suggesting he is doing a wrong thing)? We already have/had a similar topic: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=127177 jaclaz

Most probably the "reversed" dummydisk.sys remained as a leftover. On next occasion, check whether rdummy.sys is installed. Or did you NOT re-boot? It should get disabled at the first re-boot after install has finished: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...1384&st=421 jaclaz -
