Connecting USB Printer to Router to run on Network
John305 replied to martinmacca's topic in Networks and the Internet
Hi well if you have one pc that the printer in plugged into USB you can share that printer on the network and all laptop will print to it through the wireless router. Maybe that's not what you are looking for but it’s a easy way around it. -
Hi again yes ty for the info i find it still weird when you open a audio cd on the pc and you see .cda for each track but they are very small and cant be the song. Great site I have learned many things.ty
-
Hi yes a mp3 is a compressed audio track you would have to expand or decode it to make it play on a normal cd player ie a player that only plays cd audio. Normal cd player to us old folks just plays cd audio not wma or mp3.Which is what he seems to have or he would just write a data mp3 disc. And once that is done those files would have a .cda extension which is why I referred to it as cda, since he is using a pc to expand them if he looked at the files he would see .cda.Once expanded or decoded they will play in any cd player.
-
Ok well mp3 have to be converted to cda to play in normal cd players if you dont want to use any of the free programs use wmp it will do it. wmp comes with vista so you have it.

Hi yes im here to learn also. It seems everyone has a diffrent idea on power supplys so I just like to make sure i have room to upgrade. My gameing system is a q9450 at 3.2 gig 2 gtx 285 2x velociraptor 300 gig I may want the new 400 cards lol so it has a 1000 watt with 6 40 amp rails lol. But i dont really think its good to run at min spec anyway. The reason i mentioned the psu loss was on a diffrent forum a memeber said, Keep in mind that PS mfr's tend to be optimistic when rating PS's at temps that aren't realistic? Your 600 watts at 25C might be accurate, but at 40C, you might only be getting 300 watts?. So I take it that is very unrealistic and not correct. Thank You for your Help

Hi again well the 26 amps was a rough number but as for a gtx 275 running on a 18.25 amps 12 volt rail will not work. Im not sure of the number but what would that 12 volt rail put out in amps once the psu was hot I thought there was a 20 % drop and useing the max 18.25 amps would make it run hot.As for warranty evga is the same you have to register the product and have your recipt but you do with any rma product.I dont get rid of my old cards as im old i like to save everything and i have 4 pc's one is still running a ati 9500 pro card original fan everything on it. This system has a 6600 gt card i do have a gaming pc also but thats about all i use it for lol.And yes i admit I like to make sure everything has good clean power going to it more than is actually needed, might want to upgrade one day. I thank you for your responce i have learned a few new things.Oh and yes i still have the box and the games with all connectors that came with the 9500 pro lol

Hi yes when refering to video card specs and they say it needs 60 amps on the 12 volt rail that is the complete system runnning hd dvdrw and what ever else you have in there. We know that some may calculate the amount really needed but new users cant do that. So stick in 2 gtx295 in sli and run it on a 18 amps psu.Example a gtx 275 says it needs 40 amps to run right but thats the complete system the card may use 26 amps.Still cheap under powered supplys are not the way to go. Also no lifetime is not 5 years. APPLIES TO ALL GRAPHICS CARDS INTRODUCED BY BFG ON OR AFTER 2/21/08 BFG Technologies warrants to the original purchaser of the graphics card included in this package ("Product") that the Product will be free from defects in material or workmanship for as long as the original purchaser (residing in the United States or Canada) owns the product. If you live outside canada or usa you get 10 years.

Hi well you first need to check if it’s over heating download EVGA Precision and see what temps the card is running at. Also remember with newer video cards you need amps some as much as 60 amps on the 12 volt rail of a psu make sure your 500 watt psu will cover the power requirements if you get a new card. Also as Palit only offers a 1 year warranty on there cards I would go with evga or bfg for the life time warranty.

Hi well I have win 7 64 bit ultimate running on a amd 3200 + socket 754 2 gig ram 6600 gt and main boot drive is a sata 1 100 gig Maxtor very old. And get a 4.1 CPU is lowest even that old hard drive gets a 5.4. Video is 4.9 4.3. The old Maxtor can’t be changed to not use write caching. It runs fine I’m going to try it on my gaming pc next it runs vista 64 bit and has 2 velociraptors in raid but I hear any mechanical drive in win 7 only will hit 5.9 or so. So how can a old 100 gig Maxtor get 5.4 running in sata 1 mode. I see sata 2 drives that get lower. I think this scoring is out of wack

Hi yes the video cards are running 72c after farcry 2 at high res for 2 hours the cpu i still cant find a main cpu reading but the highest core is 58 c. Thank You
-
Hi Thank You for your response I have tried both programs the reason I am concerned I had one of my video cards over heat and burn up hehe, The realtemp program with the pc at a idle for a hour is 38 c my 2 video cards I have got to run cooler they idle at 40 c with adding a fan so I hope I am set lol video cards are costly. Thank You

Hi I would like to know how quad cores give there temp reading. In a temperature monitor program it shows 4 core temps but then gives a main temp as cpu temperature which is much lower than the cores themselves example the cores show around 44 c but the main cpu temp shows 22 c I don’t understand how they come up with such a low cpu main temp. Thank You

Well just to add on newer laptops and some desktops the password is stored in vram so resetting cmos does nothing. There is only one way i know of to remove from lets say a hp laptop and that is to call hp they will check your registration if it is registerd to you they will give you a master code to unclock it for I think 80 $.
-
Well trying to get the restore cds wont work either as hp ,dell and other laptop manufactures look up the registration info and if your name is not listed they will do nothing for you the seller has to transfer it to your name

need to make an MS-DOS boot disk for BIOS flashing
John305 replied to itachis.eyes's topic in Windows Vista
Hi just go to bootdisk.com and download a dos version of a boot disk. Hammey -
Hi the hp recovery first makes a partition to hold the hp recovery then it installs to it once that is finished it will start the install from that recovery partition, this is on a new drive that has no recovery partition in place. As for dif hardware I use dif hard drives and no problem but as usual I only have one hard drive plugged in when installing windows. This is for newer hp recovery like a year old now anyway.
-
Hi what happens in some cases when you get a full hard drive notice on a hp recovery partition is that the system is saving restore points to that drive make sure restore is using c drive. Then you can go onto the hp recovery partition and delete those restore points.

I have recently have gotten a new velociraptor 300 gig drive so ran a few speed tests it performed well, so I decided to try on a few different drives. I used a little program free called dskspeed. I have a Samsung HD501LJ 500 gig in that system also its scores where very low so low that a old Maxtor 100 gig sata 1 drive was faster than it, also a Seagate st350063 aos drive in this pc did a lot better on sata 1 than the Samsung did on sata 2. The system running the Samsung is a q9650 16 gig ram 2 9800 gtx cards with Vista 64 bit, The one running the Seagate and Maxtor is a amd athlon 3800 + 3 gig ram 6600 gt running win 7 64 bit. So yes maybe the program is not the best to test with but it gives a base score and that Samsung drive was 300 point below any other drive. I can’t see it being pc setup as the other drive runs great but how can an old sata 1 drive beat a new sata 2 drive for speed. I have read that they are slow drives but that slow I can’t believe it

"herbalist" I've been an ASAP member for the last 4+ years. In that time, I've battled and removed more malicious code than most users will ever see, most of it from XP. Do you think maybe that is because no ones uses 98 anymore and that 90 % of pc's have xp. It’s a fact the more people using software more errors show up. I guess you have not had many calls to repair win 98 pc's. As for old dos games I started on dos 5 and don’t really want to play those games when I can play far cry 2. Technology changes every month we are supposed to be able to pass these new changes on to users so they know what is available whether it’s a free av solution or new hardware and yes I am sorry to say they cant buy a pc running win 98 well really I am glad lol. A nt based os you have to reboot hmm like once every month and some go a lot longer than that, win 98 about every 3 hours.
-
Yes I guess if you want to play with an os win 98 is ok .Try coding in ms access and see how long it is before you have to reboot due to the memory leaks in it and that was ms access 2. If you don’t want to move ahead stick with 98 one person mentioned not upgrading from win 98 for the little bit of speed increase well a quad with 16 gig of ram will blow you away for speed but of course it wont run on win 98. If you have no need to use, and learn new programs stay with win 98. Myself I thought Computers where to learn, I want to see one of you stead fast win 98 only users to go and fix a vista or xp pc. But yes I guess if you stay in your house and only want to run old stuff win 98 is for you. I know guys that still use dialup also and log onto BBs hehe. But i really suspect most still use win 98 because of older pc's but even a p3 800 can run xp fine. Hammey

How do I Reinstall Vista Ultimate without it adding the Windows old Fi
John305 replied to jwesley44's topic in Windows Vista
Yes Formatting the drive is the way but also that will remove any files on the drive and programs. Make sure everything you need is off that drive. Hammey -
Yes as directx 10 is a different build than 9 you can install 9 and it wont over write 10 just puts in the dx 9 files you need to play dx 9 games same as vista was. But don’t expect good performance from that chipset in any case. If you are using the AERO theme expect even less. Hammey

Win 7 auto installed my sound blaster 5.1 live gamer card its old, and also the audigy 4 pro. There is no support for the joystick port so you will always see a flag in device manger, but its only for that joystick port thats on the older sound cards so it can be ignored. They expect you to use usb joystick.
