  1. The first machine I built was a Cyrix 166. It worked great for a year or two. Then I built an AMD K6-2 350 machine that I still use as a test machine. Currently, I have an AMD Athlon XP 2600. Personally, I don't see a reason to buy an Intel Pentium. I've built several machines for friends and use AMD chips. No problems. They are much cheaper and I feel they perform better.
  2. I just used this on two files over 2GB in size and it worked perfectly. Easy to use also.
  3. From things I've read NOD32 is supposed to catch 100%, which no other AV can do. It is more expensive though. Norton is too buggy and their support sucks. I do use it, though. I would switch to Trend-Micro PC-Cillin (OfficeScan is the network version) if it was cheaper. I also use AVG on one machine and it seems to work just fine. I can't complain about it because it is free. Just my opinion.
  4. Since it is Win2k Server, you don't want to run Windows Update. I did run HFNetChk and found one patch that I had not installed yet. I'll find out tonight if that worked. Thanks.
  5. Right click on Network Neighborhood on the desktop and choose properties Right click on LAN connection and shoose properties Select Internet Protocol and click properties You can configure IP settings there and adjust more settings by going into the advanced options. This should do it for you.
  6. I've been testing a Win2k Web server, and this one file (httpodbc.dll) keeps getting the Nimda.E virus. What is the fix for this? Thanks
  7. If he says he's happy to be here...he probably means it.
  8. Definitely put in a firewall. That will cover scans and direct attacks. Then, install antivirus software. I recommend having an antivirus server and each PC on the network has the client software installed on it. Also, filter email attachments. Don't let attachments with certain extensions get through. That frees up a lot of resources on the antivirus system. Another step in security is to manage your IPs. And a simple thing is to put in place policies that let users know that they cannot connect personal equipment to the network. People will feel dumb if they are told not to do something and do it anyway and then get put up on a pedestal in front of the entire office . You can even put together some Cyber Security Training for users. The biggest threat is an uneducated user. Hope this helps.
  9. Another thing that is supposed to help is using a proxy. Basically your browser points to a server and the server handles the requests. Web sites see the IP of the proxy. An application I've heard that is good is Ghost Surf Pro, not free though.
  10. I liked Halo's Legendary ending. Nothing like an alien grabbing a marine's a**.
  11. From Huron to be precise. BFE. This forum came up in a lot of searches for custom Windows install CD's. I've done a 2000 CD, and am now working on an XP one. I have to do a lot of desktop setups, and when an image is 2 years old it's almost easier to just use a fresh setup. I also might dabble in the gamer side of things Later.
