    0x007b error

I had such problems so I turned off the DEP Permanently. Just change the value of /NoExecute (in boot.ini) to AlwaysOff before installing the sp. It should work. All the best. -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Monday, May 18, 2009, 2:41:47 PM IST
  2. Hi, I have been using Windows OneCare for the past few weeks. Sometimes, soon after booting, there is the RED Windows Security Center warning saying OneCare is turned off. This rectifies automatically after a few minutes. But I have the habit of clicking on my OE as soon as I get the desktop. Under such warning cases, isn't is dangerous to open any application that accesses the internet? Also, the OneCare Icon is the last one to appear in the taskbar after booting. While writing on spyware, though I found excellent reviews about OneCare but I doubt it due to the above reasons. I was to upgrade as the firewall is very good. But the above mentioned behavior is confusing. Please let me know if it is safe if the OnCare taskbar icon appears several moments later after I click on the OE icon. Also, why does it often say that OneCare is turned off and then restores automaticallly in few minutes. There is no relevant material on the MS knowledgebase. Thanking you, -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Friday, May 15, 2009, 1:57:17 PM IST
  3. "On most XP computers, your flash drives can be infected even if you open it and do nothing. I faced such problems wherein I opened the Flash drive just to check if certain files were there and it got infected. So, same may have happened in your case too. I agree with the person who asks you to run the system restore and see if you get the icons back. Other than this, you can download something like a SpyBot, recommended by MS, and see if the Flash Drive is infected. I guess the Spybot will clear any malware on the Flash drive eliminating the need for formatting it. Just check it out as there is no harm in it. Otherwise, as suggested above, you will have to go for the format. All the best! -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Friday, May 15, 2009, 1:42:53 PM IST
  4. Hi All, I use Winpatrol to check for unwanted changes. It popped out a message some time back saying that Quicktime has been added and wants to run at startup. Though it was showing the normal logo of Quicktime, there was no mention of Apple. As far as I know, I never installed Quicktime on my laptop. Even if it is installed, it should show in the Control Panel if I am right. It does not show up in Menu, control panel, and neither in the My Programs Folder. Now I suspect something wrong. How can I find that program and remove it from the system. Also, I found the following in the My Programs folder that contain folders of files called Microsoft or DLLs. I want to make sure that they are genuine and not any kind of malware: 1. C:\MSECache contains a subfolder O2007Cnv that again contains a subfolder 1033 which has a file O12Conv.msi. 2. C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\Windows Workflow Foundation... contains 2 subfolders v3.0 and v3.5 both with some TARGET files. 3. C:\Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework .. again with the above v3.0 and v3.5 folders. These folders have some DLLs.. example.. System.Web.Abstractions.dll 4. C:\Program Files\Windows Media Connect 2... contains wmccds.exe, WMCCFG.exe apart from xml and graphic files. I am confused as I never noticed these in my entire life with computers. Please inform me if these folders are genuine and required. Also, how to trace that file of quicktime (I used the Search Feature with no results) and get rid of it. Thanking you, -- Regards, Arun Kumar M. Signed: Saturday, May 09, 2009, 5:21:19 PM IST
  5. Hi, I had the same problem. I did some changes to the registry so that the hung applications' processes are terminated automatically. You can use the method if you wish so. You need to find the following in the registry and set the values accordingly: HungAppTimeout = 500 WaitToKillAppTimeout = 1000 AutoEndTasks = 1 Please note that these appear under two or three main keys so you will have to change them at several places. Use the Find option to change each instance of the above. In other words, you will have search the registry more than once to make changes to each of the above. Do let me know if it works for you. -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Saturday, May 09, 2009, 12:59:22 AM IST
  6. NO for sure. I am comfortable wid my XP and I think majority of others too are.. This is why Windows 7 has an option to downgrade to XP (in case you do not like Win 7) and an option to turn on the XPM (XP Mode) when you feel uncomfortable with the overall GUI of Windows 7. This sends out signals that MS itself is not confident of making Windows 7 a sucess, at least not in recent future. -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Monday, May 04, 2009, 12:04:30 PM IST
  7. Hi, I updated the driver and tested it on both the portals. The results are same. The performance varies with the bitrate. For 128 Kbps, my system will hang after two-three hours but for a rate of 32Kbps, there is no problem even if I keep tuned in for almost 10 hours... Seems you are correct regarding the ethernet card buffer. -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Thursday, April 30, 2009, 2:46:36 PM IST
  8. Just see what they replied: Dear Arun Kumar M., Thank you for contacting Online Support. You will need to contact the hosting provider for assistance in this matter. Please let us know if we can assist you in any other way. Sincerely, Mick P. Online Support Technician PATHETIC. Now what path should I take?
  9. Hi, Thanks for the explanation. I have another doubt. I cannot remember installing .NET on my computer, nor is it visible in the Add/Remmove Programs. The .NET framework service packs will be there only if the .NET is installed, rite? Is it possible that the .NET was installed with any other program that I installed? How can I find out if I have .NET installed? -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Wednesday, April 29, 2009, 7:02:29 PM IST
  10. Hi, I am sorry i could not get to the answer as I recd no mail reg the reply. But now, I will contact IDs you gave me in the first part. I have already contacted the ID in the second part and did not recieve any response. Thanks a ton... and more tons.. Take care. -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Wednesday, April 29, 2009, 4:00:35 PM IST
  11. HI, Even I have a related problem. My Add/Remove list of programs shows .Net Framework service pack1, SP2, and SP3. When I try to remove these, espescially the older ones... it shows a list of programs saying that those programs will not function if I remove them. Ironically, the list of dependencies it shows are same for each .Net framework service pack. Do I need to keep the .Net sp1 and sp2 on my computer? And most importantly, I dont remember installing .NET on my system after the last time I had a clean install. Any explanations? -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Wednesday, April 29, 2009, 11:33:30 AM IST
  12. Hi All, I noticed something related to the issue. The site IN.com streams audio at 128 kbps. I found another radiostation portal (http://radiostationindia.com/) that has several radio stations streaming audio at different bit rates. I noticed that if I am tuning in to the Radio stations such as Radio Mirchi or Bombay Beats that stream at 20 and 30 kbps respectively, there is no problem at all with the system. Does that mean that the performance and slowdown of the computer is also related to the bitrate of streaming audio? -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Wednesday, April 29, 2009, 12:08:07 AM IST
  13. This seems a good idea. I have a forum software from ArticleDashboard though i never used it as I never felt the need for it. I will see if I can implement the idea. Thanks a lot for the gr8 idea. -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Tuesday, April 28, 2009, 8:34:43 PM IST
  14. Hi, The problem while exitting does not lie with the homepage. It indicates missing or corrupt add ons. I recommend a fresh install of IE6 or better still, go for an advanced version like IE7 or IE8. The last one is the best as it offers you anonymous surfing option too. Plus you can save your login info (login cookies) even as you delete the browsing history unlike the previous versions that wipe out all the cookies. All the best. -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Tuesday, April 28, 2009, 12:38:23 AM IST
  15. Hi All, I understand that this is not the correct thread for this topic but I need URGENT help so am posting it here. The problem is explained in the following para. I usually send one unique, unpublished article written especially for my newsletter that relates to Windows XP Troubleshooting. Two weeks back I wrote few articles on Conficker around 2nd of April and sent it across to 2000+ people. One of the reciepients copied one of the articles and pasted it on a thai website (http://tinyurl.com/d7peae). Later, I submitted an entire series from these newsletters ezinearticles.com only to get my account suspended. They said that the above article was attributed to someone else. Somehow I got the acct re-instated but they still wont publish the series. They ask me to contact the webmaster of the site and send them all the proof that i sent to ezinearticles so that the Thai website either removes the article or attributes it to me. The problem is when I am trying to find the address of webmaster of the Thai site on Whois, it is not reflecting anything. Is there any way I can contact the webmaster? If yes, how do I contact the webmaster? I have all the proofs. I just need the address of webmaster to get the cheater out of the Thai website and get my name attributed to the article. Please help, -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Monday, April 27, 2009, 11:24:12 PM IST
  16. Hi, Thanks for the clarification. I thought you were speaking about the local airtel broadband service provider. Yes, Google has provisions for mass mailing under its business accounts after verification. Google also offers its business mail services through others' websites. But for that I will have to register with Google Business, which means I will have to wait for another two months as I will have to spare the required money. Currently the biz is going slow. The Godaddy is still to respond. I will wait for the answer. I hope that it has some cheaper alternative. Until then, I will stop the newslwtter. Its better to stay on the safe side. Thanking you, -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Monday, April 27, 2009, 11:04:43 PM IST
  17. Hi Fdv, I am sorry but I could not understand the connection between the ISP and the mass mails. I mean we pay monthly fee to the ISP to access. Though they give out an option to have an email ID with them but that will be something@ISPDOMAIN.com.. In my case, the ISP name is airtelbroadband.in, which will look weird. And how are they connected to the number of mails we send using the Gmail or my GoDaddy email account both of which, reflect my company name? I could not find any policies on the GoDaddy forums and support, so I raised a ticket to ask them the potential problems if I send like mails to 500 at a time... Until then, I will have to use the Google but the problem (fear) is that the ID I am using includes the company name is quite famous in the Indian small business field. Hence, I am not willing to risk loosing it. Any ideas so that I can get my newsletters across but at cheaper rates???? Thanking you, -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Sunday, April 26, 2009, 5:23:19 PM IST
  18. Hi All, I send out newsletters every week to a list of around 2000+ IDs. The problem is Google will not allow more than 100 recipients in a day as per the Google guidelines. Even then, I have to type in captcha to get access to the google mail account after sending in mails. I am worried that they may ban the ID that I have been using for more than two years. I have another ID related to GoDaddy for my website. I do not know rules for that. Will they ban if I send mails using that ID? Currently, I use MS OUTLOOK to send the newsletters, to 50 ids at a time at specific intervals to stay on safe side. Till now, it did not cause much problems except that I cannot access Gmail directly with OUTLOOK after the mailing process until I login to the web Gmail using Captcha. Is there any reliable FREE or CHEAP software that helps in sending newsletters. At the moment, I cannot afford the services of entities involved in sending mass mails. Also, they cannot be trusted with my email IDs and I do not want my firm's name in anyone's bad list. Please let me know the options available. Thanking you, -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Sunday, April 26, 2009, 3:00:06 AM IST
  19. Thanks a lot for the PE link. It sounds promising. -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Saturday, April 25, 2009, 1:28:35 AM IST
  20. The problem is generally attributed to HDD problems. If you have the original XP installation CD, instead of installation, try Recovery Console. This will give you the DOS environment. You may use CHKDSK and if the problem is not solved, run the Recovery console (or a DOS Boot Disk from bootdisk.com) to format the Windows XP partition through the DOS console. Then try clean install of Windows XP. It should work. If the file system is NTFS, you may face problems if you are using a bootable DOS disk as it wont recognise the NTFS partitions. Just hope that the Recovery Console is able to get to the HDD. If it does not, attach a second HDD with XP on it, to the computer and make it Primary. Once you get the GUI, remove the Windows partition from the old disk. Remove the second HDD and clean install XP on the one having problems. All the best! -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Saturday, April 25, 2009, 1:18:00 AM IST
  21. Hi All, After installing the Windows OneCare on my system, I blocked several programs from starting on their own. This list includes the Google toobar Notifier that is useless and irritating. The OneCare shows a message saying it blocked Google toolbar notifier every once a while. I felt happy that i did not have to go through all the difficult steps mentioned on the other websites to remove the Notifier. However, as I had to use the Task Manager today, I noticed that the process being displayed in the Process tab of Task Manager. I am confused. Is the Task Manager wrong or is OneCare fooling me. The icon does not appear in the system tray though. How do I confirm? Thanking you, -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Friday, April 24, 2009, 11:08:54 PM IST
  22. Hi, I agree with joe43wv in partial. There is some stability factor with general OE that comes with the Windows package. OE loses the mails while sending and recieving through POP3. My laptop has only 512 MB of RAM and I am using OUTLOOK 2007. The best thing is that you get the facility to change the default mail folder to some other partition so that you need not backup your contacts and mails each time. Plus if you want an attractive signature in the general OE with some images, say your company logo, it is not possible in the Windows OE. I will recommend you go for OUTLOOK 2007. You can fully customize it to meet your needs such as creating rules and alerts to delete unwanted mail even before they are downloaded. That is the best mail client till date in my knowledge. One Tip: If you intend to use MSOUTLOOK, use IMAP to send and recieve. This way, you will have a copy of mails saved on the server too. Hope this helps you make the decision. -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Friday, April 24, 2009, 11:02:07 PM IST
  23. Hi, I have heard about Norton Ghost but do not have enough info on it. Can anyone tell me what software to use so that: 1. I can make a copy of my entire HDD. 2. Use it to boot and restore my HDD in case of emergencies (preferrably unattended) I am tired of the process wherein you install XP and then all the software followed by custom settings. It eats up more than 6 hours to set up the computer to the state it was before installing XP. Thanking you, -- Regards, Arun Kumar Signed: Friday, April 24, 2009, 8:29:59 PM IST
  24. Just shuts down is not clear. Is there any message prior to shutting down like "Rolling back Installation". Also, please let me know what was the OS on it when you go it so that I can get an Idea.
  25. Hi, Many many thanks to all of you. I finally was convinced following your information to find that it was indeed a leftover of the installation and was safe to delete. However, I had to download the Unlocker to delete the folder. Thanks again to all of you. The issue is resolved now. -- Regards, DreamSkape Signed: Tuesday, April 21, 2009, 9:16:41 PM IST
