    crashes in VM

If its an OEM disc maybe a reference was removed that is expected? http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t90137.html http://www.msfn.org/board/Error-SIF-file-setup-t111701.html
  2. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/dis...and-usb-drives/ or right click on the source drive-->properties, go to the autoplay tab, and select what you want to do for detected file types.
  3. think pad max is 640MB across alot of the 1.13 GHz X series (my guess is an X24 in this case). Best I can determine, these laptops have a fixed (non-removable) 128mb of RAM The poster would have another 128mb stick in the available bank and could most certainly sub it out with a 512 SO-DIMM PC133 bringing it up to 640. But I made a lot of assumptions based off the processor.
  4. what is your current stick? Maybe we can at least throw you vendors with more moderate prices.
  5. Good eye Idaho! though "many machines" could be "(all my) many machines" - but I am all about the devils advocate. because to be honest I was answering the aversion to registry entries immediately and half-a** reading the last sentence.
  6. ModifyPe fixes checksums. http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/16/
  7. Im not seeing where his question was business or distibution related?
  8. registry entries are a fantastic part of unattended installs. You can set em at T-13 from cmdlines.cmd at the runonceex. or from the nice little regtweaks.reg a user account in addition to administrator and guest = the owner account (renamed) I dont understand what the solution is lacking for. Unless of course if owner doesnt count either.
  9. I can workaround the issue with the most ridiculous autoit script I have ever written. I would still enjoy eliminating the dialog rather than accommodating. I suppose this is a workaround for any install that throws the certificate services warning. [.au3] run ("%path%\DOTNET35.exe /q /norestart") winwaitactive ("Microsoft Certificate Services") send ("{enter}") exit
  10. Indeed, nothing cleans windows like linux. ubuntu is a good one, as well as www.knoppix.net http://www.morphix.org/
  11. I am disabling usb storage devices in my install. I first set the registry entry to 4 via a reg file. - blocking all previously discovered devices I then explicilty deny user rights to the usbstor.inf and usbstor.pnf. - Blocking any new devices from being discovered Then I copy over a custom .adm that sets the registry value back to 4 everytime the machine is reset. Its the standard template for setting the usbstor to a value of 4 and everything works fine; once you go in to gpedit (uncheck "only show policy settings that can be fully managed") and enable the setting. Is there any way to enable this policy without user interaction? [usbstor.adm] CLASS MACHINE CATEGORY USB STORAGE POLICY USB STORAGE DEVICES KEYNAME "SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR" EXPLAIN This policy allows the disabling of USB storage devices PART "Startup Type" DROPDOWNLIST REQUIRED VALUENAME "Start" ITEMLIST NAME "Disabled" VALUE NUMERIC 4 END ITEMLIST END PART END POLICY END CATEGORY Thanks.
  12. how about renaming the owner account to yourself, rather than creating a new user. -- a workaround sort of but solves both. Adding registry entries to modify HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization
  13. throw them in cmdlines.cmd or the runonce.cmd. also a search for regtweaks.reg will provide some more in depth reading and alternate solutions.
  14. yup. Best solution I use to test progress bar or custom squares at the bottom right is loading it into virtual box from an .iso on the local drive, only takes about 5 minutes to get to the billboard.
  15. xpreview works http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=80716 Only for xp though. And from my experiences, removing all the text from the install throws errors in Xpreview but it works fine in the actual load. As well: you can always double click the winnt32.exe as well, it will fail but you can see your custom billboard.
  16. hit whatever key will give you your boot options and select safe mode.
  17. It still has to be present for the user in its current form until selection is made, otherwise the UX and documentation folks will hate me. I am going to try making it contrast with the custom Nu background, then blend into the custom WINNTBBU. Not the greatest solution, but hopefully it looks less appealing to click on after selection. Thank you for replying, this is the first of my posts that has yielded a reply.
  18. if you catch it on the programatic reboot and send it into safe mode, are there any entries in the runonce?
  19. Thanks for the english reply I owe you a chocomel.
  20. does the "windows key + D" not force your desktop to the front? or open word first and use "alt + tab" to toggle between applications? Hopefully one of those keystrokes work/
  21. the documentation button up top on the Royal Blue homepage points me to this working location: http://www.wpiw.net/Royale_Blue/Documentation.html
  22. Im only skilled in coffeshop dutch B) , did you ask why swap the ntoskrnl on your machine? or what did you swap in the ntoskrnl on your machine? because i would be much obliged if you could answer the latter in english.
  23. Did you try setting them as "optimize for quick removal". We had some POS laptops and a mass of POS thumbdrives that would take turns failing when optimized for performance, especially on those with minimal RAM.
  24. can you do a normal prtscrn (or alt+prtscrn if you just want the active window) and then paste it into paint or word all on the 98 machine?
