When you get home and hook up to your home network, open a command prompt window and try the following: 1) ipconfig /release 2) ipconfig /renew 3) exit This should drop any of the current IP info. tied to your adapter that may be left over from the office or from an autoconfiguration. Barring that, check to make sure the DHCP server is working. Try connecting to it from another machine if you have one. Good luck.

How do I create a share during an unattended install and set its permissions for the Administrators group and Everyone group? I have seen rmtshare.exe but am not sure if I can use it during an unattended install. I have also seen vbScript for creating shares but not one that also sets permissions on the share itself. Any help is created.

Try renaming the winnt.sif to WINNT.SIF or copy the file to a floppy disk, as Microsoft recommends and then run the unattended install. Good luck.

Add the RAID controller drivers to a directory in your install\drv\raid directory, then add that directory to the OEMPnPDriversPath= statement in the WINNT.SIF. That should do it. If not, search my id on the forum, I wrote a post on how to do it with those drivers. A Dell server needed them.

How bout just RunAs, its built into Windows. If that doesn't work, check out TCQRunAs. -
With the exception of writing on the screen, the Motorola mpx220 will do everything you are looking for. It does have a voice recorder you could use for notes instead of penning them. Check it out at Motorola.com.

Just start the installation with the following settings in place in your WINNT.SIF or unattend.txt file. It will prompt you for the drive and/or partition to install to. [Data] AutoPartition=0 [unattended] Repartition=No ExtendOemPartition=0

Try St. Bernard's software's Update Expert. It is the best I have found.

After you configure each PC with it's own unique IP address can you ping between the two machines? If not, try a ping test using the IP addresses of the other machine when conducting the test. See if you get a reply. Do you have a default gateway installed on only the NIC that is connected to the ADSL connection? Check this website out for good tips and tricks. http://www.chicagotech.net

Winnt.sif with Win2003 server
tguy replied to Incroyable HULK's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
When using CD-ROM's for unattended installations the answer file must be called WINNT.SIF Sometimes if the file is edited with say Notepad, the .TXT extension gets appended to the file so it becomes WINNT.SIF.TXT which will not work. You can copy the WINNT.SIF into the i386 directory and I have seen it work in the past however; since I prefer the flexibility of editing the files frequently for various server builds I put the WINNT.SIF on a floppy which is inserted right after the installation starts from my CD. Hope this clarifies things a little and will help to resolve the problem. -
The OOBE is what gives you the screen to add users at setup. As for the updates, it sounds like Security Center has been disabled or modified so it may not run. Because you are using a Corp. CD you may not get the same prompts and screens as you would with the Dell factory CD. In any case, there are regtweaks, and unattend settings that will enable automatic updates. There are batch files and vbScripts that will add users for you. If you can get the screens you want to come up maybe consider using these ways to achieve your goals. Good luck.

Like Ge0ph said, you can still log on locally to the PC, just select the computer/system name from the domain list drop down box. If that does not work, use a BartPE or Ultimate Boot CD disk to reset the admin. pwd. You might consider creating a backdoor admin. account to aid in eliminating this problem in the future. Good luck.

I assume you mean your using IEAK 6 or IEAK 6 SP1 to create an customized IE6 installation. In that case, I have used Altiris and SMS to deploy IE6 remotely. I have also slipstreamed it into my Windows 2K builds. And, I have integrated it into Windows 2000/2003/XP unattended build cd's. All were successful. First run IEAK 6 to download all the IE .cab files to a flat directory. Second run through the configuration wizards in IEAK to customize your install, create Favorites, configure security settings etc. IEAK will then build a customized install script, .ins file for you. Lastly, run IE6SETUP.EXE from the flat directory to install IE. How you call the IE6SETUP.EXE is up to you. I have used the above three methods.

ISA server 2004 is a better choice. While ISA 2000 and 2004 allow you to filter inbound and outbound traffic, 2004 has new features that are useful, and it performs better than ISA 2000.

Are you logging into an NT domain or Active Directory? Roaming profiles could be configured to copy all your profile info. to the server. Check with the Sys. Admin. to see if this is the case. What files are being synchronized, can you see them? A little more info. would be helpful in assisting you with your problem.

Pushing down Applications to Terminal Servers
tguy replied to Minus Human's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Terminal Server needs to be switched into install mode to install applications. Check to see if it is. Two common ways to do this are: 1) Install Office 2003 through Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel 2) Go to cmd prompt, type change user /install Run Office installation Go back to cmd prompt, type change user /execute Close cmd window Note: To install Office on a Terminal Server requires a different kind of license than installing it on a PC, obviously cuz multiple users will use the same physical installation. Good luck. -
Confused with Autopartition and Repartition
tguy replied to Major's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Your interpretation of the results is correct. To accomplish the reinstall of XP or any other OS on HDD1 use AutoPartition=0 and Repartition=Yes This is what I use to Autoformat my drives when building PC's and servers. -
Sorry I wasn't of much help, maybe try contacting one of the authors or contributors at the flyakite site to see if they have worked with Ghost 9 yet.

What tool or script are you using to change the drive letters? Acronis Disk Director? You might consider just using diskpart.exe from MS. You can script diskpart to do whatever you want. I use it to change drive letters all the time for my CD-ROM and it does so successfully each time. Hope this helps.

Is this giant .PST file in a roaming profile and therefore downloaded everywhere the user logs on? Or is this a mobile user with a laptop who is in and out of the office and/or not always connected to the network? A couple of ideas come to mind. Why not move the .PST file to the server and have the user open it from there? Then there is no need to download the file every time, even if you do split it up. Another option to increase throughput to the server would be to team the NIC's. If you have two NIC's from the same vendor, say Intel or Broadcom, you can team them together to appear as one NIC with twice the throughput. Or you could load balance etc. The best option would seem to be leaving the .PST file on the server and accessing it directly from there. If the user indeed does travel a lot, maybe he/she could use VPN or other remote access to check mail in the office?? As a last resort, I would try and copy that giant file all the time even if it is split in two. Hope this helps. tguy

You can download a .PDF file with the same instructions for permanent and offline reference. The link is on the forum.

If your talking about installing post SP2 updates, you can use the svcpack.inf method, batch file deployment with qchain.exe, and a number of other methods. Search the forum for this info. Its there, I'm sure more than once.
