On the unattended CD you created, considering adding in the OOBE (Out of Box Experience) files. You can find more info. on this forum. Just search for it. That should do what your looking for.

I think a little clarification is needed. Are you talking about doing disk cloning from images stored on the network like say Altiris Rapid Deploy or Ghost Corporate does? Then wondering what order a clone deployment vs. a network based unattended installation would occur? The short answer should be that the first PXE/DHCP server that receives and responds to a request for job information from the PC you are trying to build will be the one that executes first. Any particular reason you are using both cloning and unattended installs? Seems like twice as much work.

Good effort. Over time I think the site will mature and become extremely useful. For now, the Registry tweaks thread on this forum and Winguides.com are my favorite sources of tweaking info.

When executing .msi installer files, try using this command line as outlined in the unattended.msfn.org site guide. REG ADD %KEY%\030 /V 1 /D "msiexec /i \"%systemdrive%\winapps\ptoys\tweakui.msi\" /qb" /f Notice the \ before the "%systemdrive%... and after tweakui.msi Also notice the double set of quotes used. I know this works as I have used it successfully numerous times in the past.

Geoffrey, Try using OEAccess=Off in the Components section of your WINNT.SIF As for a background, search UXTHEME.DLL on the forum. With the IE Start Page, you can use the Internet Explorer Administration Kit to customize this setting. The IEAK is available for download from Microsoft. To customize the language and regional settings, refer to the ref.chm help file in the deploy.cab in Support Tools directory. Hope this helps.

Not sure whether one software package will accomplish what you're looking to do. However; that being said, a combination of: Symantec Ghost Binary Research Universal Imaging Utility Sysprep and batch files should do the job. Check them out, good luck.

disabling indexing service reg question....
tguy replied to ceez's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
If you set indexsrv_system=off in the [Components] section of your WINNT.SIF or UNATTEND.TXT it will never turn on. Then you won't have to worry about disabling it manually or with .reg files. To answer your question specifically, you will not need to uncheck the box if the service is actually disabled, though that is not the cleanest way of doing things. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE are PC or SERVER specific settings and entries. HKEY_CURRENT_USER are settings that pertain to the current logged on user. Hope this helps. -
Unless you setup the internal DNS servers with the same domain name and IP address scheme they should NOT be the authoritative source for queries. That function should rest with the ISP's DNS servers. Keep your internal hosts in their own domain, like company.int, not company.com. See if that helps straighten things out.

possible for multiple primary dns server in a zone
tguy replied to D3H6G9's topic in Networks and the Internet
Windows DNS???? You can have more than one primary but it is not recommended. The two primary zones can host identical records but they will not dynamically update each other like a Primary/Secondary or Active Directory Integrated configuration will. Check this website: DNS for more information. -
What kind of PC and what type of CMOS does it use? You can check vendor websites like Phoenix and Award to get information on CMOS settings.

Could you have possibly substituted a o or O for a zero or something like that? Check characters closely. I got caught by that myself one time before.

@Professor Frink, No problem, you can still use it when IE is already installed and patch to enable/disable features and tweak security settings. I use it to customize the build with Title Bar names, logos, customize components, and to tweak security.

notepad shortcuts too editiing in notepad
tguy replied to kurt476's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Have you considered creating a shortcut to Notepad.exe in your SendTo folder? Then to edit a file all you would need to do is to right click, choose Send To --> Notepad. Otherwise you might look into keyboard macros. Hope this helps. -
Checkout this website: DNS Basically the DNS server running on your Windows Server 2003 should hold host records for the internal desktop, laptop, server resources etc. You can then setup the ISP DNS servers as to do Forward Lookups. Check the DNS Server Properties --> Forwarders tab. This way any requests for internal resources on the network will receive a reply from the internal DNS server. Any requests for external resources, ie: servers at ISP will be forwarded from the internal DNS server to the ISP's DNS servers for an authoritative reply. The website mentioned above covers this implementation in more detail.

@Professor Frink, Yes I have used the IEAK for XP, Windows 2000 Pro/Server/Adv. Server, Windows Server 2003 Web/Standard/Enterprise. It works fine with all of them. The thing with registry tweaks is that you have to apply them to each individual machine. When you have 50-100 servers to deploy having one customized build to deploy works much better. Plus when using GPO's you can tweak things individually as needed. Don't get me wrong, registry tweaks do have their place, I use them to disable the Internet Connection Wizard, and to remove OE. Play around with the IEAK if you get some time, see if it works for you. Testing is always key.

@Bashrat Just wondering if it can be done. I have a SuperG wireless connection that I can get 108 Mbps throughput through. Don't suppose it would take a lot longer than using a 100 Mbps wired connection. I would like to know if such drivers even exist????? I do have other methods to back up the drive but I wanted to play around with the wireless aspect.

I have tried Dlink.com to no avail. I would like to create a Ghost boot disk to create a DR image of my laptop using my wireless card. Hence the need for the NDIS .dos driver. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
