what i do: extract the contents to a temp dir. locate the installer (msi) and from command-line "msiexec.exe /a path\archive.msi". a new window will prompt to create an admin install point. once you finish, create a self-extracting package and install the application using path\archive.msi /qn. the first time you'll find this a bit difficult but the new compressed setup will be some MB smaller. you can also modify some of the files (dlls and such) on the setup

I would like to have the time to explain you what you can and what you can't do, and what you should and shouldn't do but that's not the case at the moment. first you CAN'T do "whatever you want with it"... toc, toc, license agreement? ... that ugly screen you bypass at the very first process of the installation tells you to not modify any of the components of the system core. i know, i know, you're going to talk me about uxtheme.dll or tcpip.sys, that's illegal too but is sure m$ won't demand you for using an alternative msstyles, but it will certainly do for removing/sharing knowledge about windows activation. yes, you have the right to create a backup for your personal use... so what has this to do with activation? i told to evade this kind of discussion b/c i've spent sometime here and i know people is prone to write phrases like "you can remove/download X in order to use a windows system without activation"

just replace ntoskrnl.exe (or its compressed cab ntoskrnl.ex_) with the propper version. http://unattended.msfn.org/advanced/hackedfiles/intro.htm should help

if you know just a bit of PS you can make multiple sizes from the image (128*128 to 16*16), then just drag and drop all the .png files to gif movie gear (shareware version available at http://www.gamani.com/) and save it as .ico (animated .gif, .avi, .cur, etc are available too )
