  1. Probably for a feeling of privacy B)
  2. Thought I might as well add I'm playing more COD4. But if you check out my sweet Steam ID page you will notice I have a tonne of games that need playing over the holidays!!!
  3. Yes and I recommend a Western Digital or Samsung HDD, I have one of both and they are flawless. Quiet, and have no well known problems (at least with any of the drives you can buy today from them).
  4. I just remove IE, but not the IE CORE which is more important. I never use IE though, and just install Firefox. Windows updates? AutoPatcher B) I would recommend just making a new ISO too EDIT: Hey a fellow Lithuanian! Well, at least my family is from Lithuania. Hows the weather
  5. Don't assume every person looking into hacking is a high school student If you look at the OP's profile, he is actually 28 years old
  6. Hahahaha this is a good one, I love the little Johnny jokes.
  7. Gonna have to show this to my Mum some time. She has a bad immune system and gets sick often. Thanks for the link
  8. Just wanted to get back to you on the MIDI issue. The MIDI files ended up playing good but just today (or yesterday) I found an odd .exe file in Autoruns which is being launched at startup. No matter what programs I used to try to get rid of it (Spybot S&D, malwarebytes, spyware doctor) it just got worse to the point my VGA drivers stopped working at startup and then my mouse and keyboard were not detected. Looks like I will be making a new install disk and reformatting after all and won't remove the MIDI support this time The PC that was infected had not even been on the internet, but at the same time it had no post-SP3 updates applies and no anti-virus program on it. I think I got it at a small gaming session with some friends over a LAN as I know one of my friends would have to have an infected PC by now as he is on the net with just SP2 (and no updates as far as I know) and no anti-badstuff/security sense. Oh well I gotta go make another OS disk now but thanks for the help -X-.
  9. Nice I will do this, then I reckon it should work. Next time I will be sure not to check the remove MIDI support option in nLite!
  10. I have a 500GB drive with the SD1A firmware and it has worked flawless in an external enclosure for several months now. I think it is plenty safe to do the update so long as you follow the instructions on the Seagate site.
  11. Yeah I did this but it still comes up with a MIDI error and also I cannot register the dll. Any ideas?
  12. Thanks very much, I will do this now and get back to you! EDIT: I found two important looking files, gm.dls and mciseq.dll. Where should these go? Just in the system32 folder? EDIT 2: I will put it in the system32 folder and the system32/driver folder. EDIT 3: It does not let me register them, when I try using the run command it says something about the file can not be registered. And the MIDI files in the game still won't play.
  13. Hi guys, sorry to revive an old thread but I didn't want to create a whole new one. I have removed MIDI support on one of my PC's using nLite but now found out that I need it to play the music in a certain game! Is it possible to regain MIDI support without having to create a whole new OS disk and reinstall the OS all over? It's not that important but I would still like to have the music playing properly. Cheers B)
  14. Yes PCI-e V2 cards are backwards compatible. As far as speed goes PCI-e V2 is twice as fast as V1 but it makes no difference for most cards. In benchmarks, V2 @ x16 is no faster than @ x8 speed. Since V1 @ x16 is as fast as V2 @ x8 then there wouldn't be a noticeable difference as far as performance goes.
  15. Don't forget that PC gamers supported COD, COD2 and COD4 and helped make IW into what it is today. IW supported PC gamers greatly with COD4 giving PC gamers everything they needed to distinguish the PC version from the console version (dedicated servers, mods, free maps etc). There are still more PC gamers on XFIRE playing COD4 rather than MW2 even though COD4 is 2 years old now. I only hope that in the next version of COD IW has added all the features COD4 had back into the game for PC players.
  16. Firstly you can just install SP3 over a SP2 install and not loose any setting/data. I would recommend installing SP3 ASAP. GTA4 will probably not run alright at all. I know Bioshock, Batman and NFS will run good on at least med settings at 1680x1050 and Crysis at around medium settings. But GTA4 is a very CPU dependent game and a P4 3Ghz will slow it right down. An AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (even faster than your current CPU) only gets around 8.1FPS on average! And that is with a GTX 280 running at a lower res than your 22inch monitor. With a cheapo dual core CPU it gets over 20FPS. Although this is on max settings, you would be lucky to play at 1024x768 with low-medium settings. It is a console ported game and today's consoles have more CPU power than GPU so the games are designed to use more of the CPU power. Like I said, GTA4 is very CPU dependent and single core CPU's don't cut it any more. Not sure about the speed of RAM helping that much either. Most people would not notice the difference between 1066Mhz DDR3 RAM and 2000Mhz DDR3 RAM in game-play. The reason your newer PC is outperformed by the older PC with faster RAM is because the GPU in the older PC is a good bit faster than the GPU in your newer PC. Also I really don't think everyone wants to watch a slide-show of a game (or reduce IQ so far that it looks 6yrs old) as I don't think you could get more than 20fps on either of your PCs at med settings on a 22inch screen. So basically as far as GTA4 goes he's probably not going to be fine What I can say to help though is firstly you have done a good job getting a decent vid card (HD 4830) and a good amount of RAM. Because you are running a 965 mobo you can upgrade to a good dual core CPU like any of Intel's C2D E6xxx series CPU's and gain a massive increase in performance in GTA4. So long as you have the latest BIOS version then even a quad core CPU would work for you like a Q6600.
  17. Nice, the price difference (and performance difference once slightly overclocked) between the 9600 and 9800 s minimal so get whichever has the best bundle and/or heatsink/fan for the price. On the topic of SATA drives, get a HDD as big as you can afford as the price difference between a 750GB drive and a 1TB drive for example is very low. I picked up a very fast and new SpinPoint F3 1TB drive for my shuttle for $30 less than the 640GB drive in my other PC was 10 months ago!
  18. Yes I reckon your right. Anyway, while selling digital copies on Steam is less expensive for IW even after a cut to Valve, most people buy it in store so IW have to give a cut to the people that make the DVDs, boxes, shipping costs, "brick and mortar" stores etc, but then have to pay more on top of that when it gets loaded into Steam.
  19. Looks like Valve is probably contradicting themselves there as on this page it says under FAQ #8 that: So I'm still not sure
  20. Well it may run on my LAN-BOX but if it doesn't then it will run on the blue beast anyway Hopefully BC2 will be good and so far seems to be just that.
  21. Hey this is cool man! Very good for a hardcore gamer who doesn't want any possibility of screwing up mid game or just for anyone who does sometimes push the windows key or alt-tab accidentally. Good work
  22. Also look for one with two or more internal connectors so you have a bit more future proofing. BTW, you decided on a graphics card?
  23. You can boot from a USB drive too, but yeah esata is faster except on my external drive where USB is faster for some reason
  24. That's weird, I thought I read somewhere Valve gets half the money or some percent. Not sure though. I don't think Valve would implement steamworks and VAC into a game for free anyway. Or maybe Valve does it for free to get more users to sign up for Steam then to see and buy Valve's own games. EDIT: Apparently any game with steamworks (in this case MW2) has to pay a share of the revenue. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_%28cont...y%29#Steamworks
  25. Yeah I didn't think you were about to chuck it out or anything judging by your avatar Don't worry, I still got plenty old PC stuff too B) I reckon it would handle UT99. Depending on the GPU. I have a GF4 MX440 in my P3 so UT goes really good. Plays HL1 good too and all its mods/expansions.
