    Hi Jaclaz: Thanks! This is the different between a developer/programmer and a electronic hobbist. Look forward your BIOS reverse engineering Yupp, I know Nibotor can fix the checksum, but since Pegatron BIOS is quite special, thus Nibitor seems can't interpret it well, I am afraid if it can correct the checksum if you mod the BIOS by Pegatron one.     Hi Jaclaz:: Yupp, I got the BIOS from a physcial card of a HP Slimline from my real world friend by nvflash, here it is: backup (70.18.09.00.06, Work one).rar And these are the BIOSes which I tried: Nearly all of them can make the card works, but many of them will halt / scrap the screen after loading the driver. Yupp, Both tried, Gainward G210 one could work, but missing energy saving function on different loading of the card (If I remember not wrong). Note: 1) In Nibitor, All downloaded BIOSes from Techpowerup can display the RAM/Clock speed correctly, but the BIOS from my friend's HP G210 can't. 2) Also in Nibitor, all BIOSes (included the one I attached) show the fan speed will change at 30%, but no luck whatever you change it. 3) According to other posts in the net, G210 VGA board shouldn't come with a fan pwn controller, so there must have tricks that Pegarton overcome it. As BFG G210 / EVGA G220 also have fan issue and maker had provided updated BIOS for it long time ago for fixing. How sad that I even can't get a BFG G210 BIOS for a tried since it gone.... (No luck in webarchive.org) 4) The device ID of HP Pegatron G210 card is 10DE:0A60, but all other G210 BIOSes in TechPowerup is 10DE:0A65. Seems that Pegatron G210 card use older GT218 core revision (OEM), but retailing card use newer revision of the chip. 5) Nvidia BIOS has checksum, just change some byte in it will make the BIOS corrupt and can't light on the card.     Hi Jaclaz, 1) Yupp, I have tried all the 512M DDR2/DDR3 BIOSes there(The Pegatron G210 is a 512M DDR2 card, Hynix 1GBit RAM x 4), finally find that only MSI/PNY BIOS can use (XFX one do, but it so wired, after loading the driver, the fan will STOP!!!!) 2) And U r right, this is the MSI BIOS which I tried and work fine with the card (beside the fan speed issue). 3) No, since the old SOP8 Eeprom IC was dead, I have resoldered & changed an good one from another dead display card.     Hi Jaclaz, I tried there b4, otherwise I can't get my card work again. The only working BIOS there are MSI/PNY 512M BIOSes, others got halt the computer after loading drivers. Even they worked, but the fan is always run at 100%, it make the card so noisy. The Pegatron g210 BIOS which I got is from a HP slimline Desktop, which work, and the fan will reduce the speed after loading the driver as b4, but the upper VGA 15pin is disabled by BIOS, as a result, I can only get VGA out by a DVI->VGA adaptor if I use this BIOS (MSI/PNY BIOS can use upper VGA plug as normal, but the fan speed..... Err.rr.r.) So I look for the BIOS of this card in several forums to see if someone get an HP desktop could help me. But till now, I still no luck on it. You are the 2nd person who responsed to me (Another one is in HP Support Forum, but also no luck). Thahks anyway, Mate. Best Regards, Ken

    Hi Jaclaz: Thanks for your reply. I have tried Nibitor, and according to the info of Nibitor, it only partial support G210 BIOS, as a result, the fan speed can't be change in it. Yupp, it is a Pegatron G210, D10M1AB1H Rev:1.00, this card is OEM in wide range HP Desktop series. After a hard search on the net, I can only get the BIOS of this card in low profile, which is in HP Slimline series, and that BIOS is disable the upper VGA output. But the fan speed is correct. BTW, use MSI/PNY BIOSes, the upper VGA output OK, but fan become so noisy... It is why I look for the BIOS. But till now, I still can't get it, sniff... Ken

    Hi there: Really long time no come back to MSFN... The new forum really run slow on my old Win9x machine, heh~ BTW, I am looking for the BIOS of the HP G210 display card BIOS, the exact outlook is as below pic: http://partsurfer.hp.com/ShowPhoto.aspx?partnumber​=586382-001 I pretty sure my card's BIOS is corrupt, since I tried to flash other brand (MSI/PNY) G210 BIOS to this card, and it becomre alive again, but the side effect is that the fan becore so NOISEY, its why I look for the original BIOS for the card. This card is in lots of HP/Compaq desktop computer, if some MSFNers see this post, pls help me to backup the BIOS by GPU-Z or nvflash, thanks a lots! NOTE: the slimline series also got this card, but in low profile, the upper VGA head is disabled by BIOS (Coz I got this BIOS and tried) Best Regards, Ken Yaksa

    Sorry for my late reply once again. I don't have any problem to install my USB 2.0 Cardbus card. All you need to do is updated your WinXP to SP2 or later (SP1 doesn't support USB 2.0) before you plug the card in. After so, all necessary files (included driver files!) are lay in C:\Windows\I386 directory, & don't need to Windows CD. You even don't need the driver CD which come with the card since XP SP2 or later native support USB 2.0 (Otherwise, you may need the driver CD if you want to use the card under 2K or 9x).     As I know, there is 3rd party add-on software products for XP/2000 can do so. But both are come from Taiwan/China. The 1st one is "BeTwin", which can turn a computer for 2 users using (2 Keyboards, 2 Monitor, 1 Desktop) And 2nd one is "Buddy B-680", which can turn a computer for Max. 5 users to use at the same times! Since both has no english web/infos (Chinese Only). What I can tell is getting some Pics of them from its adv. here: BeTwin: Buddy B-680: BTW, both of them are not free, there is a free solution which can let your computer for 2 or more users at the same time by adding more display card,monitors & USB keyboard/mouse. Which is useing a free VPC software which called "VirtualBox" (http://www.virtualbox.org/). Since it can setup each virtual machine to use different USB keyboard/mouse as input, and can use "Full screen" for each monitor. So with it , you not only get 2 users to use same OSs, but can make each use running different OS at the same time! But the down side is.... you need to install OSs for each user...     Hi Bristols: Sorry for late reply. Well, I am using an unnamed China made USB 2.0 4 port card base on VIA chips. Which is only US$8. (Similar as below pics) For better performance and lower CPU usage, you can buy one base on NEC chips. As Cardbus is based on PCI bus, the CPU usage is lower than 16bit PCMCIA card coz of its Bus Mastering function. As mine, which will use around 10% CPU when full loading file transferring. Even the CPU is unweight to make full usage of the USB 2.0, it still faster than the built-in USB 1.1 alots. (For mine, around 20M/s, I bet NEC chips will faster). Best Regards, Ken Yaksa

    Yep, I agree with jaclaz. Just keep your 5400rpm 40G HDD for your DELL, there is really no great improvment beside if you got a 16M cache 7200rpm HDD for it. But I think that you better save the money to buy an external USB HDD for your DELL is more better (don't forget to buy an USB 2.0 Cardbus card to use with it). Best Regards, Ken-mkII

    After checked the spec of Dell Inspiron 3700, I confirmed that its' PCMCIA slot is 32bit car compatible, so use an USB 2.0 cardbus card is not a problem. BTW, your notebook is similar as my old Samsung NV5000 in spec, so I can give you some upgrade info to it. 1) RAM Since both my NV5000 & Inspiron 3700 are 440BX base, the RAM upgrade has limitation on it. You can ONLY use 16 chips PC-100 DIMM 256M for 440bx, 8 chips PC-133 just WON't WORK! Coz 440bx can only handle 2M x 4bit RAM refresh & 256M Max for single slot. Just remember that PC-100 16 chips 256M DIMM is MORE expinsive than thse 8 chips one. So as you are not have 256M on it, I suggest that you still lay on Win2K/ME/98SE, otherwise you should add memory to 384/512M for better performance to run XP (Just like me, My NV5000 has 64M RAM on board, and ONLY 1 DIMM slot for memory upgrade, I fired it up to 320M total for WinFLP) 2) USB 2.0 Just as what I said at first, you can install cardbus USB 2.0 card for your Dell as just what I did. 3) HDD As I think 40G HDD is enough for your machine (Mine only got 20G), for extra storage, you can attach an external USB HDD / PenDrive to get ride of it. 4) BlueTooth As you got USB 2.0, you can easily use it under Win2K/XP. 5) CPU Since most notebook use BGA CPU, I don't think upgrade is easible, so just leave it alone is Okej. (Mine is PIII 700Mhz instead of yours 500Mhz) 6) DVD-Drive Mine has changed the internal CD-ROM to DVD, which I can use it to voiew DVD sometimes. Below are the screenshots took from my machine.     As title.... The DUN of WinFLP is not working. Does anyone know any tricks/tweaks which can make it work? Since it is a slim version of XP that is made by Microsoft, which is ideal for old notebooks. On my PIII 700Mhz notebook w/ 192M RAM. After Installed SP3 for WinFLP, the speed is much better than regular XP w/ SP3. But since it's DUN is not working, so there is no way to make it dialup w/ regular MODEM, PPPOE w/ ADSL or some 3G mobile phone / data card which need dialup function. Any Info are welcome.     One more think need to concern, maybe the USB connector is "half-dead", since I have a machine, it all will report "code 10" whatever what device you connect to one of its USB connector, but another connector work well.... Wierd... - - (My machine run WinME)

    Remove System Restore will speed up the WinME operation quite a lots, especially on older system such as Pentium MMX 200Mhz or less. And PCHealth, I don't remove it since it take less resource only. And as I know, WinME's IOS is different than 98's DOS 7.1. I don't think it work without modify ME files (Don't you remember that modification to make ME boot do DOS?) And for Shutdown, I poperly create a shortcut which contain "C:\Windows\RUNDLL32.EXE user,exitwindows" (without quote). Or using "rundll32.exe shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx n" (which n repersent number as follow to make different action:) 0 - LOGOFF 1 - SHUTDOWN 2 - REBOOT 4 - FORCE 8 - POWEROFF Hope those infos could help.     OOoh... You use VxD SB driver instead of WDM previously?! It is why Digital Audio check box greyout... And, Daemon 3.47 is the BEST virtual CD-ROM mounting software for Win9x (I still use it for both my WinME & XP BOXes). But its' Analog Audio function is not 100% perfect, there will has no sound sometimes when playing audio tracks which is called by 3rd softwares such as emulators. But since you use digital audio instead, so there is not the problem for you.

    The IDE Bus-Mastering driver may cause the "digital audio" won't work under Win9x system quite frequently (Depends on mainboard chipset), also there is some old CD Drives can't active digital audio function (Mostly old drives below 16x, so this is not your case). If performance is your case, I bet that you better attach an audio cable between your CD Drive & your card card to avoid this situation.

    Yupp, just like what dencorso said, it's BIOS issue. Mostly is coz of the stabilility, so BIOS won't turn it on by default. You can put the setk6 in the autoexec.bat, make it run everytime you boot your 98 machine automatically.

    If your laptop support Cardbus 32bit PCMCIA, you can easily added USB support by plug-in a Cardbus-> USB converter. If so, then u can use any USB external CD/RW (or even DVD/R) with your classic laptop. For floppy drive, there is easily added ith usb external usb floppy, too. And HDD, with Disk Manager, you can easily use up to 137G with it (But I think it is waste). So, a 40B PATA 2.5" HDD should be more suitable for your case. And RAM... Err... No comment (Since I have no info with it).

    Hi MGDx, Thanks for your infos, But the Lights.exe which lay in system directory is served for modem connection... Which is not what I want... (Heh, just want the little network indicator as in Win2K/XP have). Tihit's IPtest make a great work on it... But just as other member said... seems there is something wrong with it's uninstallation issue... - - Otherwise, it works well...
