LCD is not suit to set the refresh rate... Just 60 is Okej... Higher usually will make the display blur.... Since LCD use flat back light, so the "refresh" issue like CRT will not happen in LCD.

Tihiy, this is a GREAT TOOL! Thanks a lots!! Just like what raidyd said, could it be localized? Seems that thoe resource hacker is not worked with it. Since I am using Trad. Chinese version of Windows now. Localized it to chinese seems to be more interesting. Finally, I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST in 2009, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Well, old notebook (K6-2 Model or earlier) only support 16bit PCMCIA (PCCard), later models support 32bits (So called CardBus). It is why I am looking for 16bit card only due to my notebook is an old cake. BTW, could you confirm your friend if QQ2004/2005 can still logged in to QQ Server and chat with others? If so, also if possible, could you ask for your friend to test if QQ2004/2005 can install under Win95(Win97)?? If everything okej, I may ask for you to send me the file, hehe

Below is the translation of above chinese, since this is an english forum, we use chinese to post here is not so good, heh~ Heh, play DOS game, or others? For me, I play console games on computer via emulator mainly, but most of my machines are ERA's, so I can only choose from limited area... I owned an USB sound card already, but what I want is finding a sound card for my CT475 notebook, don't you think that a 14 yrs old notebook would have a USB port? So the only solution is to find a 16bit PCMCIA sound card that was popular in that ages (Win3.x / DOS ages). It is really headache to me.... BTW, even I could use USB sound card, but I still don't think if I could make it soundable under pure DOS. And the Lan card, I owned a 16bit PCMCIA 10M (Kingston PC2) already, but what I am looking for is a Printer Port version Lan Adaptor (I remember 3COM had sold it b4) for my another ERA Toshiba Plasma Laptop (386SX-16Mhz, 2M RAM, 40M HDD, EGA, no PCMAIA socket of coz... ) And for QQ, I'm using 2006 ver, too... This is the only version that support Win9x(98 Actually, so no luck on 95). But the problem is that is SOOOOO SLOW on Pentuim MMX 200Mhz + 98SE, and totally unusable on Pentium 75Mhz +98SE which I have tried. It is why I want to find a more eariler modified version which could run under Win95. If so, I could make my old computers still usable nowadays (For chatting, word processing and some old gaming etc...) Yupp, since my computers has some issues now (Mostly I am working on those old machines), I can't on MSN/QQ at the moment, after I return back to use my main machine, I will added you back. Bye!! Best Regards, Ken-mkII (Aka. Ken Yaksa)

There's your problem. Remove Active Desktop/IE4. Hell, install it without any IE for disk space savings. Yepp, I know, but why I installed Active Desktop update is coz of I have merged the WinMe's Spider game to this tiny notebook. BTW, Win95a w/ Office 95 on it is really fast enough for normal documentation job. But if surfing on web, IE 5.5 is reall SLOW like a turtle.... It is why I want to turn this notebook to a "console" machine rather than a word processing machine...

Yupp! You let me remember the old ages when I play Ultima IV & V on my Apple // w/ mocking board~ At that moment, Apple //'s games were better than PC's alots since at that time, VGA & Adlib were just come out, most of games still hadn't supported yet (Ultima V supports VGA, but no BGM.... So...) Thanks for your info... (At this moment, I am buliding the LPT cable for connecting Playstation gamepad to this old notebook, hel~~)

Hi there~~ After fixed the broken floppy drive by replacing the O-Ring, CMOS CR2032 & Suspend Hi-MH 4.8V battries, the DEC Hinote CT475 come alive again!! Here is what look like: (Sorry, since I have no digital cam now, the pic was taken from another site) And this is the screenshot that I captured from it (Win95 OSR2 w/ Active Desktop Updated): Below is the hardware spec of this old cake 1994's notebook: CPU: i486DX 75Mhz RAM: 4M onboard + 16M EDO (20M Totally) HDD: 340M 2.5" Toshiba VGA: Chips & Techology 1M LCD: 640 x 480 TFT OTR: 2 x 16bit PCMCIA socket (Cirrus Logic Chips), 1xECP, 1xCOM, 1xInfered After testing with some of old DOS emulator for it, I discover that it should run NESTICLE (NES Emulator) & NO$GB v2.5 (GameBoy Emulator) at full speed. So, it may be ideal for turning it to be a "Console" machine rather than a notebook since it is quite slow even I use Win95 on it. But since it hasn't sound/lan bulit in. I would like to look if I could find the following hardwares: 16bit PCMCIA lan card / Printer Port Lan Adaptor 16bit PCMCIA sound Card (No sould for console gaming is ingoring... ) 16bit PCMCIA USB adaptor (Dunno if it is existed?!) Maybe I am misposted here, but hope that someone would help, hel Also, low CPU cosuming Win95 game are welcome, too!! Thanks, Ken-mkII

win 98 msgsrv32 segment not pressent fault lzexpand.dll
Ken-mkII replied to geekdude's topic in Windows 9x/ME
How long have the problem occur? Before this problem occur, did your Dad installed other softwares on the system? I think that there may have some files interference with lzexpand.dll, so it make 98 crash. If the problem is not occured too long, you may try to replace the old registry file to fix the problem. Boot to pure dos prompt, and run "SCANREG /RESTORE" to restore the backup old registry. It always save me times by tons of old 98 machines in the old ages that I repaired. Hope could help, mate. And sorry for my bad english. -

Preventing Windows 95 OSR 2.1 from installing USB support
Ken-mkII replied to Ambassador's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Hi Ambassador, Sorry for my late reply. Here I will try to answer your quiz as I can. 1) So sorry that I don't have the CD-Drive with my old Hitachi laptop, it only come with the removable Floppy Drive... So I installed OS via the bulit-in AMD 10Mbps LAN under DOS by Bart's Network Boot Disk But if you can show me the model number of the CD-Drive under Device Manager, I may help you to find out if your drive could support CDR reading or not. 2) Yepp, mine has the bulti-in IR port, too. But so sad that it is not IrDA/ASKIR compatible. It is HPSIR standard, it means that it is a REAL RS-232 over IR. You can install the driver for it manually in control panel -> Add New Hardware, anc choose the standard IR port device (Not PNP) (Note: HAVEN'T TESTED in this way, since I only use the IR port with my old HP 100LX Plamtop which is also has a HPSIR IR Port, I use it has no problem since the HP Tranfer file "think" it as normal COM port) 3) The model number of this Hitachi laptop is differ from by its Pentium MHz's speed, you can find the info here: FLORA NM1 (Sorry, Japanese only) And mine is Hitachi 5NM01-162MA*1 Also here is the BIOS update for it to make the machine comptaible with WIN98 SE (BIOS lower than 1.09 has problem with 98), you may have interested: FLORA NM1 BIOS UPDATE 4) Well, the LCD of my is 640 x 480 DSTN... So.... crappy screen refresh is a MUST (Sigh). The only way to make the pointer read easier is turn on the mouse shadowing in Control Panel -> Mouse (Sorry, I dunno the exact naming of it since I installed Chinese Windows for my laptop) 5) According to different models, different OS has been preinstalled to the machine. In the bottom of the page that I provided to you above has listed the preinstalled OSs (Sorry, japanese again). Here I can translate some for you: Windows 95A (PC-5NM01-475LA/263LA/262LA/162MA) Win 3.1 + DOS 6.2 (PC-5NM01-475L5/263L5/262L5/162L5) Finally, since Hitachi Laptop was sold in Japan only, so the keyboard layout is japanese, after you install english OS on it, you may discover that the key mapping is not correct... Here is the link you have interested to make the key mapping is the same as printed & typed: Japanese Keyboard Support for English Windows95 Hope can help, Cheer -

Ken-mkII replied to Ambassador's topic in Windows 9x/ME

Preventing Windows 95 OSR 2.1 from installing USB support
Ken-mkII replied to Ambassador's topic in Windows 9x/ME
For default installation of Win95 OSR 2.1, it will NOT install the USB supplimental driver for USB support unless you install it manually. So, there is no need to remove it since it hadn`t installed. PS: I am also using and old Hitachi laptop now, and writting this post from it. Which is an old model with Pentium 75Mhz w/ 48M RAM & 2G HDD... -
HELP: How to make sw that need 98SE or up to run under 95 OSR 2.x?
Ken-mkII replied to Ken-mkII's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Sure, my old cake laptop's spec is: Hitachi 5NM01 CPU: Pentium 75Mhz (BGA) C.S.: Intel 430MX Chipset (No UDMA... Orz..) RAM: 16M on-board + 32M extention board (Non-Stand), 48M totally HDD: Toshiba 2GB VGA: Curris Logic 7543 PCI 1M LCD: 640 x 480 DSTN SLT: 16Bit PCMCIA Type-II socket x 2 LAN: AMD 97Cxxx 16bit 10Mbps Lan Built-in (This is the only Good thing!) SND: ESS 1788 16bit ISA O.S.: Windows 98SE Traditional Chinese Version w/ I.E.6 SP1 Well, thanks first... But I think that shipping to China is a painful problem since there is several problems: 1) I don't have any Credit Card, so I can't pay via paypal... Orz... 2) Non-Chinese Address can't be posted in lots of China's countries beside Shanghai or Beijing... 3) China Custom will charge huge income tax of each products that she lists in her charge list (Computer parts is one of the thing that she will charge MUCH!) The alt. method is... Post to Hong Kong (Yes, actually I am a HongKongese... But due to some reason, I stay in mainland China... Errr...) But still need to solve the payment issue... (I lost job long times, so... None credit cards anymore...) ?! Your P90 can play DVD's VOB files?! As I know, Range from P133 up can only play VCD... Now, my P75 main usage is... MP3 player... (Beside the QQ) Well, beside QQ, I also use MSN & ICQ (not much now... Err.. I am the 1st gen. of ICQ user since Win 3.1) Umm... I think language is not the problem (beside it will 'eat' more memory to hold the truetype chinese font caches)... So, it SHOULD work on every language's OS. Have't tried 2000 yet... Since the machine has no CD-ROM... Install 2000 on it will has some terrible procedlue (Fat32 format -> copy files to HDD via LAN -> Install -> Fat32 to NTFS etc..), it is why I install 98se finally... heh... I am LAZY... Yep, I know this kind of tricks... If don't set the virtual memory size larger, it can't run any memory-eaten softwares nowadays with little of physical memory. And I am using 95 style shell instead of 98... Anyway, nearly did all you prefer... Heh... Err... RamBooster.... Lead me to think back the old ages when I install Win95A on my 4M 386DX-40Mhz & Win 3.1 ages.... Long time haven't used this software... You CALL back me old memories... Finally, sorry for my late reply, and thanks for your help... PS: Now is Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year), "Kung Hei Fat Choi! " (Dunno if you understand what it means... ) -
HELP: How to make sw that need 98SE or up to run under 95 OSR 2.x?
Ken-mkII replied to Ken-mkII's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Thanks for everybody help... Finally, I got Win98SE full installed to use QQ... (Sigh)... And now the case is... 1) 98lite fail... If I removed IE, QQ got crazy after running a while... (Remove others such as task scheduler not help much) 2) The last QQ version which can login to its server is 2004..... But since some function in group chat is missing... Finally I use QQ2005 instead. 3) Yepp, the laptop can`t upgraded... the CPU is BGA 75Mhz... and RAM is not standard... 4) maybe I will try Controller`s idea someday later to see if I could make it work again under Win95 OSR2.5... 5) What the good news is.... I am using this old cake notebook to reply here now, heh... (640 x 480 is not much resolution, but at least I can still surf here...) -
Err.... Can it be used under non-english version of Win95? (ie: Chinese or Japanese Win95)

HELP: How to make sw that need 98SE or up to run under 95 OSR 2.x?
Ken-mkII replied to Ken-mkII's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Since QQ need IE5.5 or up to run correctly, I don't think 98Lite is not the solution... Hi PassingBy... Where is the patch?! And of course I have updated t winsock2 and DUN 1.4.... Umm... So will you still try to patch it once again... But the problem is that QQ need IE 5.5's function (not confirmed if it needs Active Desktop, too) -
Hi there.... I just want to know if there is any methods to let a software which need at least Win98se or up to run under Win95 OSR 2.x? Since I have an old notebook (Pentium 75Mhz, 48M RAM) that I want to use to surf on web and using IM to chat with other while I am on bed (Heh...) First of all, I have installed Win98SE on it, but... the speed is REALLY slow as a turtle, the IM software that I need to use nearly can't be used under this old cake notebook..... So, I switched to use Win95 OSR2.1, which is alots faster... But the downside is that, I can't get the IM software to work anymore... (Can install, but can't run). Then, I remembered that there is post in somewhere mentioned that after installed the active desktop w/ IE 5.5 SP2 on OSR 2.1, can make it run Window ME's Spider Solitaire game (Which need new fuction in shell32.dll). So, I do so... Finally I got Win95 OSR 2.1 + Active Desktop + IE 5.5 SP2 w/ all updates... But how sad that I still can't make the IM software that I need to run..... Is there is any methods to add those missing fuctions that the IM need under OSR 2.1? Or... Any project that like KernalEx to add XP functions to 98SE, but for OSR2? Any reply are welcome... Thanks everybodys, and sorry for my poor english. PS: The IM that I need to use is called QQ, which is an popular IM in mainland China (Sorry only support Tradtional & Simpified Chinese) The download address of this IM is: http://dl_dir.qq.com/qqfile-big5/FTQQ2005F..._PatchSetup.exe If anyone would like to test with it, many thanks!
