  1. Is there any way to install Adobe Flash player version 10 to Windows 98 Firefox 2.0.0.20 I ask as this is what is needed to enable street view in Google. I have tried the Firefox useragent but it didn't work.
  2. When I replaced my wired mouse due to click problems I thought it wise to purchase 2 of a similar brand being Technika, and I am glad I did as one of them I had to replace today as the scrolling wheel started behaving badly. Question though, as it is 3 years since the quote I wondered if anyone could confirm that any current wired mouse available in the UK such as Technika available from Tesco as the current model doesn't mention 98 at all, would it work and be compatible with 98? Also the Microsoft wired mouse states 98 so I presume the Technika would work also as it does just now even though it did state 98 at the time.
  3. The post by HaloHalo doesn't mention this, so why have it here if it ain't supported?
  4. So are you saying that both 6.0.2.621 & 6.0.3.x will continue to be supported for 98?
  5. Sorry but I'm confused about this when you mention the dead link. Is this program that will work with 98 real time? Will 6.0.2.621 continue to be supported for 98 when 6.0.3.x is available? in other words will it be updated for AV defs?
  6. Touchwood, but the drawer hasn't opened on it's own since I had unticked the disconnect then ticked it again, so as you say perhaps due to the system telling the drive to open via the IDE cable I have perhaps done a small fix unknown to me.
  7. Why would I need to do that as there is an audio cable already connected to the wanted DVD-RW, so please tell me if I have got this right, all I need to do now is remove the IDE cable from the Secondary Channel and move it to the Primary Channel, and also remove the cable connected to the unwanted drive too. I can understand why you said that though as you may have thought I could only hear music from one of the drives, but I was able to listen from both, so that meant there must have been 2 audio cables connected from both drives to the soundcard. Please see above post too.
  8. I found out some info for the disconnect option in device manager. After reading it would you say it is good to have it enabled or not? Use this option if you do not wish to have the specified DVD/CD-ROM drive automatically connected to the virtual machine on its start. What does that actually mean regarding the virtual machine? Am I right in that if the disconnect button has no tick then the drive will connect to the virtual machine, but if there is a tick then the drive will not automatically be connected to the virtual machine. I would also like to know what the differences would mean between the two as in performance etc. At the moment I have the following ticked for both removable drives. Disconnect, Sync Data Transfer, and DMA
  9. That makes sense to me alright, I take it that image helped. Thanks and I will let you know how I get on. By the way I amended my Bios boot sequence too by disabling the floppy and making the ATA Onboard Boot Device the second, then the DVD writer the third, and of course the floppy disabled being the fourth. What is an ATA Onboard Boot Device? is it something that all computers have?
  10. How do I tell if the main optical drive DVD-RW is on the Master slave channel without opening the case? Here is the Nero Info Tool as it stands.....is it looking as you expected? for instance does this show the Main Boot HDD on 'Master' on Primary IDE It is the secondary IDE channel that has the DVD writer attached.
  11. To be honest I didn't think it was wise to move the writer to the Master being that the hard drive uses the master I thought. This is the set up showing in Nero Info Tool. Primary IDE Channel DVD-ROM Samsung DMA ON Autorun Off ----------------------------------------- Secondary IDE Channel DVD Writer LG DMA ON Autorun Off ------------------------------------------- Win9xPromise IDE Controller HDD
  12. When you say reconnect your drive, I take it you are referring to the drive I want to use i.e my Writer? I have it set already as cable select which is the 3rd from the left. Do you think I should leave things as they are until the opening of the drawer on the DVD-ROM starts to get worse? as the burning works fine for the Writer drive. I also meant to say I have 2 separate IDE cables for the 2 drives, does that make a difference to what you said earlier? Am I right to say I should move my slave secondary drive which is my DVD writer to the master primary where the drive that I want to disable was originally? In other words moving the slave to the master primary? Have I got that right?
  13. As I don't have any spare 5.25 standard drive bay covers I am really wanting to know the best way of disabling an unused DVD Rom Drive. The drive I which to disable is currently the Master Primary and my writer is the Slave secondary drive. I understand all I need to do is to remove the power cable and the IDE cable for the drive that I want to disable, but after I have done this will the Master show in the Bios as what was previously the Slave? or is there anything I need to do to correct this, or does it really matter. I thought that perhaps the only thing I needed to do was remove the power and IDE cable to the drive concerned, then remove the drive from device manager, is this correct? I was thinking of removing the drive physically, but someone said being that I have no spare bay covers it would be best to leave it in but just to disconnect it. One of the reasons I wish to remove this drive as it opens and closes on occasions for no reason, and I have no virus. All help much appreciated
  14. For the machine connected to ISP 2, flash version (as reported by http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html) is WIN 10,0,12,36 (Debug Player = no) as reported by Firefox. But I see that when using IE6 on that same web-page, the version is reported as WIN 9,0,260,0. The flash version for the machine connected to ISP 1 is almost certainly 9.something (not 10) but I don't know (right now) the exact version. That would explain it then as I have the same version of flash on FF and I.E being the 9 version. How did you manage to run version 10 on windows 98?
  15. Can I ask what version of the Adobe Flash player that you used to get these results? I wonder why it works on my I.E 6 but not on the same Firefox that you use 2.0.0.20
  16. Anyone know what happens if the disconnect option is unticked for a second DVD-ROM drive in the device manager properties settings on Windoze 98 of course.
  17. Does this mean I can go out and purchase a Dual Layer DVD/CD writer from today's models and it should function without problems on Windows 98 S.E? If the answer is yes, which brands/models are recommended, not interested in blueray I hasten to add.
  18. I can get this to perform on IE.6, but it does nothing on Firefox version 2 Anyone else find the same? Regards
  19. I am quite sure that CD/DVD burners are generic devices as seen by burning software and as such any CD/DVD burner you connect to your system will be compatible with your existing CD/DVD burning software. (Blue-ray is, I'm sure, a different story). However, if you want to be completely sure, or want another opinion, I suggest you register with the Nero support forums and / or have a look here for more info: http://forum.my.nero.com/index.php?showforum=49 Thanks, I think I have asked this over there, I will check and if I haven't then I will. Regards
  20. Nero should burn Ok, but the Disk Quality test of Nero CD-DVD Speed may not work with the burner. Nero CD-DVD Speed is an excellent piece of software written by Erik Deppe, not by Nero. I have a special purpose Plextor PX-716A in an external USB enclosure, just for "measuring" burn/disk quality, but the PlexTools for the Plextor are too complicated, I prefer the single number produced by Nero CD-DVD Speed.I am not sure whether new burner models work with Nero CD-DVD Speed, this is old software, not available for download anymore. AFAIK, the successor software Opti Drive Control does not work under Win98. But the list of compatible drives at http://www.cdspeed2000.com/faq.html may indicate what makes and models (except for the Plextor models) may work with Nero CD-DVD Speed. Nero CD-DVD Speed does not display disk quality on my Plextor PX-716A, the Start button stays greyed out. I would speculate that the successor software Opti Drive Control was made to work with the old Plextors so that users of the dead PlexTools would buy Opti Drive Control. Amazing that the author decided to make his new software compatible with old Plextor hardware. BTW, my Plextor PX-716A doesn't burn CDs/DVDs in a good burn quality, and it's not a good reader either, it served me mainly as a "measuring" tool. Thanks, but I don't really require to have the Nero CD-DVD Speed, all I want is to know that by inserting a new internal burner would work with Nero 6 and 98.
  21. This goes against what wsxedcrfv said, he said "Second, any CD-burning software that runs on win-98 (regardless how old) will be compatible with any cd/dvd burner you buy today" So why would I need to make sure the new burner would be compatible?
  22. (but might not be able to burn dual-layer DVD's or DVD-RW disks). My TDK burner supports Dual Layer burning, so that means it would therefore burn dual-layer DVD's or DVD-RW disks). My current version of Nero 6 came with my TDK burner, which incidentally can burn DVD Dual Layer discs, and the software obviously supports it. I require a burner to burn music files as well as data on DVD DL too. So in essence, as long as my current software does all that I want it to do, then all will be well as it will work with a new burner, which of course will have DL function as I think they all incorporate dual layer these days. I have started to burn at a lower speed x8 and I seem to have more success. I read that the data gets written thicker with burning at a slower speed, therefore less errors when playing on other machines.
  23. So what you're saying is if I were to go out and purchase a new internal CD/DVD Dual layer writer, and if the docs says that the system requirements don't include windows 98, you're saying that it will still work on 98 but perhaps the software won't? Also would I be able to use older software on a new writer? for instance would Nero 6 work in conjunction with a brand new writer?
  24. Yes I have nusb33 installed, but I don't have a USB2 card, all I have is the original USB that came with my system, USB1.1, so an external would be no use to me unfortunately as I don't want to start fitting anymore bits and pieces inside the computer. I think I am right in saying that you need USB2 for the fast speed transfer.
