I believe it came installed with her laptop so it must be a genuine copy of windows 7. If I remember she managed to install the essentials with no problems. So, if I go for a new computer, and it has Windows 7, I am still not sure whether to go for 32bit or 64bit, that's the bit that worries me.
-
When I bought this computer it came with Windows 98 S.E installed, and I have never changed the CPU which is an Athlon. What is SSE if you don't mind me asking? second edition of windows 98?
-
Perhaps it installs on 64bit systems rather than 32bit, mines is 32bit. I say this as I don't know any other users that have 64bit apart from yourself.

It's not Win98SE but a 586er CPU that can not run newer Flash versions. My AMD K6-III+ can not handle any Shockwave Flash versions beyond 10.0.45.2 (which is still fortunately sufficient for YouTube). So you may either need a newer CPU or the patcher software. See this thread: That is interesting, so you are saying it could be down to the processor rather than the operating system, I have an AMD Athlon Processor 1000MHz Be good if those that can install satisfactory version 11 of shockwave could say what processor they have use. Is there any other info I can find about my processor like if it's a 586 or something. Full installer (didn't try the slim one) and default KernelEx settings on all executables. When you say default KernelEx settings on all executables did you have to go into more than the exe file or was that enough to work it for you prior to clicking on it and installing 11.
-
Posted in this thread as proof it runs with KernelEx... and you really couldn't figure out whether it was supposed to be a 98 or 2K screenshot? Saying no more... Didn't realise I was dealing with Mr Perfect!
-
Is it the slim or full installer that you used? I have tried both, and for some reason I receive an error as I mentioned earlier in this thread. After I close the error window and I try to check the version on-line I usually see a blank box where the player should be, so I have to install version 10 again to display it back properly again. Shockwave version 11 will show in the list of add/remove programs and can be removed in this way, so although it looks like it has been installed on my system it hasn't really. If there is anything special I need to do to the install file for shockwave 11 on KernelEx please let me know. I initially used the compatibilty mode XP SP2 for the install file, and I still got that error. Charlesf seems not to be able to install shockwave 11 either. rainyd You asked a similar question about shockwave 10 and 11 at post below.

I would refer to your complainings about KernelEx in various threads - for example, why I can't run Java 6 update 22 together with Firefox 3.6. Without KernelEx, you couldn't use Firefox 3.6! Have you looked carefully at that picture? If yes, you wouldn't ask about OS (Windows Start icon is enough). Yes I saw that, but wasn't sure if Windows 2000 had that start icon too, so therefore I was unaware what system you were using.
-
I was replying to a particular post, in fact your post I was replying to, so to call me annoying is just unbelievable and totally rude! Well that is not really an option to me, especially as I have no disc to restore the system back to how it was, in fact it took me hours to put everything back to how it was when I had trouble in the past, so a clean install would be more trouble than it's worth and no guarantee that it would make a difference either. You say that Shockwave 11 works, I take it you are referring to Windows 98 S.E with KernelEx installed and running. You have posted an image but don't say what system it is working with.

Last Shockwave Player version I was able to install in Windows 98 SE (even with KernelEx) is 10.2.0.23. Even 10.3.0.24 doesn't want to run. But on the other hand, I never encountered a message asking me to upgrade to display any animation. Thank you for your courteous reply.
-
That was a real surprise for me but yes, that manual update to newest version (Flash 10) works great - I've tried a couple sites including Adobe test page. Thank you! Btw, it is possible to achieve similar effect with Shockwave Player (I'm using old 10.2 version)? I have the latest KernelEx 4.5 RC 5 and Firefox 3.6.12, when I try and install the Shockwave slim version 11.5.9.615 i receive an error message below. Does Internet Explorer 8 work with KernelEx on Windows 98? If so do I just need to go to the exe file for I.E and make compatible for windows XP SP2? Also if I can do this is it a safer bet to go to the official microsoft site to download it?
-
I have Internet Explorer 6 as well as Firefox 3.6, now I would like to know why when I click on a link on yahoo to upgrade to I.E8 yahoo then tells me that I need to have XP2 SP2 or higher, but the thing is I have told the very latest KernelEx to use the XP SP2 compatibility mode, so why am I not allowed to update. I used my I.E quick launch icon for the change to the KernelEx compatibility mode because by clicking on the desktop I.E icon all it brings up is the Internet Properties. Anyway round this?

I tried the older version of Firefox, but it kind of had a bug, in that when I was playing pool and if I dragged the cue back far enough it would then bring up this long menu which was really annoying. I am now back with Firefox 3.6.12 and if I need to play pool or need Java I just use I.E6 Thanks for your help.
-
Of course you could pick another name for the folder/directory. BTW, labeling this a KernelEx problem isn't exactly fair, neither Xeno86 nor Tihiy promised everything would function perfectly. I simply labeled it as the problem only began since I installed KernelEx. I've had enough now with this, all methods I have tried, and Runtime simply is not compatible with FF 3.6.
-
The KernelEx core file configuration, I see it is set at 0 by default, do we need to change this manually and then save for any reason, or is it better to leave well alone? If say I changed it to 6, would this mean that everything on my computer would be treated as if I had windows XP instead of windows 98? or do we do this on individual exe files only? [ApiConfigurations] default=0 0=DCFG1 1=WIN95 2=WIN98 3=WINME 4=NT40 5=NT2K 6=WINXP 7=WIN2K3 8=VISTA 9=WIN2K8 10=NOHEAP

Right, I have the Java 6 update 22 installed, but when I try and test to see which Java is installed using the Java site I get 2 occasions of an MS DOS box with a black screen, and nothing happens. Even when I try the yahoo pool, the same thing occurs. So it looks like the problem is either that Java doesn't work with Firefox 3.6, or it is a KernelEx issue.
-
It said also that your file had an invalid signature. I cut instead of copy, this time it worked, now I am about to see if it works to play Java using Firefox.
-
Do the same thing again, but before checking the temp folder, check the Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_22 folder and see if Data1.cab is there, if it is ***COPY*** (don't cut) it to the temp folder and run the msi. I am confused as there is no search or explore option.
-
I tried your suggestion, but when I thought it was about to install I get this message, and clicking retry doesn't help.
-
I have met such error too, but I don't remember which app required it. But may be a stub for this function will be useful. Yahoo Pool depends on this Java file, I can get it to work on I.E6, but not on the latest Firefox 3.6 version.
-
FAO Xeno86 I have been told that Firefox versions 3.6 need the next generation version of the Java plugin, but unfortunately this version won't work on the windows 98 system. So I am wondering if it's possible to check this out, and if that is indeed the case, is it possible to built this request into the next release of KernelEx in order to make the new plugin work on Windows 98? Here is a quote on the Mozilla forum........... If you use KernelEx then I assume that you are on a Windows 98 / ME platform. Firefox 3.6 versions need the Next Generation version of the Java plugin and current Java version probably won't work on the Windows 98 platform.

I need some help, since I upgraded to the latest Firefox 3 I am unable to use or install Java, any ideas to fix this please?

I receive the following Firefox message when trying to update Java to version 6 update 22 from version 6 update 6. Can this be fixed? Since I configured KernelEx to Windows 98 for Zone Alarm it now loads in the system tray.

I have the very latest KernelEx installed, but when I try and download the latest Adobe Shockwave player 11.5.9.615 It trys to install, but then it stops and I get an error on Firefox, here are the details, and wondered if there was something I did wrong or need to do in order to get the shockwave to successfully install, by the way after the error is shows up in the list of add/remove program list, but the player doesn't work because when I test it on the adobe site nothing shows in the box.
