  1. I have to give credit to wsxedcrfv, as I followed his instruction by renaming the 2 instances of flash 9 to version 10, this I didn't perform previously and now street view works without the need for KernelEx and having to update browsers. So just to say that the renaming in regedit has to be done as the man says. Thanks again wsxedcrfv, I may have to keep 98 after all. Mind you some of the stuff you talk about is well over my head, perhaps you could teach me many things computer wise. PS, I hope that google street view works for some time as I tried it for a test and the message appeared about needing flash 10, I was about to scream, but when I opened the browser again it worked the second time, I wonder why it appeared to be intermittent? Something tells me though that when the Adobe message appears after a cold boot that asks you to download a new version of flash, that is when I think a change occurs, and that is when street view may perhaps not work again. Perhaps we can all report back our findings on this.
  2. Did you manage to run it without KernelEx on a win-98 system?
  3. You never really answered the question on why I won't like Windows 7?
  4. You won't like it. Why won't I like it? I know people that have it and don't have all this hassle trying to view stuff that 98 seems to not be able to do without patches for this and that.
  5. Update windows scripting engine, sorry but unsure what you mean?
  6. But I am sure I got the street view to work without the KernelEx. And when it did work I had the flash 9 version with the modded driver, now it doesn't work. When you say it works on your system, is that with the modded driver, and did you have to do any compatibilities using Kernel Ex?
  7. So why is my google street view not working when it worked previously using the modified driver?
  8. I've had it with Windows 98, I will be purchasing a new custom built computer soon with Windows 7. I have tried as much patching this old system, but I do think the time has come to upgrade it. By the way the modified driver didn't work after I removed the KernelEx and went back to Firefox 2. It won't be long before all AV vendors drop their support for 98, Avast being one of them.
  9. I went back to Firefox 2.0.0.20 and even with that new driver street view doesn't work! Why???
  10. Ah, Ok, so have you like me had to use the modified driver called NPSWF32.DLLthat has to be placed in the flash system folder which enables you to view the likes of Google Street View etc, as it fools the system into thinking you have flash 10 installed when actually it's flash version 9. Regarding the KernelEx, all I have done is made compatable the Firefox exe file, is there anything else that you think should be changed for my KernelEx program that may help with other stuff on Windows 98? I actually thought that having the KernelEx program would allow us to install the very latest Flash player, but obviously I was wrong, and will have to wait on an updated KernelEx. Is there any reason to have to go into the core and change the default for the operating systems on KernelEx?
  11. Right, I have installed KernelEx, and now have the latest Firefox version 3.6.4 I went to the Adobe site and installed Flash player 10, but my concern is when I go to the Adobe Flash test page the player or info does not appear! Is there something I have done wrong? and should I ever need to go to the core of kernelex and change the default to XP?
  12. Ok, I have now installed KernelEx 4.5.2 beta 2. Do I need to make anything else XP2 compatible? I have already made Firefox 2.0.0.20 XP2 compatible to enable me to install the latest Firefox version which I now have which is 3.6.4. I have also noticed however if I am about to save something in a window, if I right click any folders in the window everything closes down, any reason for this?
  13. As this is to do with KernelEx, can I ask you to look at my thread on the link I have placed below, then come back here and reply if there is an answer to it, many thanks.
  14. I was told I could configure KernelEx so that windows thinks I have Windows 98 S.E for the Firewall problem that I just mentioned, but I don't know how to do this, can anyone help and advise me please? I was confused why I would need to do this being that I already have Windows 98, but am I right in thinking that you can configure KernelEx for different programs on the system? In other words have KernelEx to fool the system into thinking I have XP, but also to make it think I still have 98 for the firewall?
  15. When I restarted the computer an Adobe message appeared asking me to update to a newer version of Flash player, when I hit to accept it looked like it was going to install, but then a windows message said that it wanted an upgraded version of windows, so does this mean if I install KernelEx then all new versions of the flash player will install? And to answer your question why I use Firefox 2 is because when I had KernelEx installed my Zone Alarm Firewall failed to launch in the system tray. Is there a way around this, like a configuration for KernelEx, I ask as I don't know too much about what to configure for that program. Can I just point out that although I have Flash player 9 installed I have it reported as 10 by using the new modded driver.
  16. The most current version of Flash is 10.1.53.64, can you try it with that version? I believe it won't work, because "10.1.53.64" has 10 charachters, while both "9.0.277.0" and "10.0.45.2" have 9. This means one can substitute "10.0.45.2" for "9.0.277.0" without occupying any space not intended for that string (i.e.: it's an isometric patch), but cannot do the same with "10.1.53.64", because the latter is one byte too long. I found out, not so long ago, that such a non-isometric patch breaks Flash 7, so I'm quite confident it'd similarly break Flash 10. And, even if I didn't know about the patching of Adobe 7, generally speaking, non-isometric patches are expected to break programs, and usually really do so. Thanks for that info, I am quite happy that my browser reports flash version "10.0.45.2" as being installed, when of course we know it really isn't, as I actually have "9.0.277.0" installed, have I got this part right in that now that the driver has been amended so that my system is fooled to think that version 10 is installed, is it the browser that is being fooled or is it my system? I would think the latter being that the amended driver sits in the windows system, have I got this right?
  17. Probably. Which sites do you have in mind? If I can reproduce the problem, I can test myself, so I can develop a workaround (if there is one) faster... Please try the BBC News website, for example: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8644758.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8643375.stm Flash videos stopped working on this website a few months ago with Win98SE + Firefox 2.0.0.20 + Flash Player 9.0.246.0 I'd like to get them going again. Thanks! When I visit these links I see an image with the small circle moving round like it is loading, but that's all it does, I use the latest version 9 of adobe flash by the way. I now report as having Flash 10, but these 2 sites report the following... The Content doesn't seem to be working, Try again later. Anyone else that uses Firefox 2.0.0.20 and have amended the driver get the same message? I think perhaps these links have been ceased by the bbc as I can get others to work on their site.

  19. The most current version of Flash is 10.1.53.64, can you try it with that version? I haven't tried that version, but I wondered now that I am reported as having 10.0.45.2 after amending the driver is it then possible to try and update 10.0.45.2 to the most recent version of flash being 10.1.53.64, or would that just mess things up and perhaps I should just be happy that I have flash 10.

  21. Can someone that uses KernelEx on Windows 98 S.E please give me step by step instructions on how to configure it to fool windows to think I have XP, and is it safe to try it for Vista? Also do I need to install the Firefox user agent switch, and if so what are the best setting configurations to use?
  22. Hi, the last version of Adblockplus that work with Firefox 2.0.0.20 is 1.0.2 https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/1865/versions/?page=1#version-1.0.2 thanks for that, although I already found this to be the case and have already installed it. Funny thing is I was able to manually install it over the older 0.7.5 version, but when I tried the normal FF method of updating it said there were no updates, wonder why that is.
  23. According to Add-ons for Firefox page, Adblock Plus 1.2 works with FF 3.0.12 - 3.7a6pre only but Ad blocker 0.6.7 works with FF 1.5 - 3.6 Did you try the Compatibility setting in KernelEX set to 98SE for Zone Alarm? You should have posted your problem in the KernelEx thread, I am sure someone would have given you the remedy. I was not sure how to do this, the only think I did do was change the number for the operating system to either XP or Vista. I was unsure if I needed to do anything else. By the way I managed to get adblockplus 0.7.5 installed and working.
  24. When I try and install adblockplus I receive the following error, Signing could not be verified 260. What do I need to do? I need to install this to FF 2.0.0.20 as I can't get Kernelex to work as it stops my firewall from loading.
  25. Flash Player 10.0.45.2 works with KernelEx 4.5 Beta on FF 2.0.0.20 see this thread http://www.msfn.org/...elex-45-beta-2/ It functions better than Flash 9 does without KernelEx. I tried KernelEx beta, but I had to remove it as it was stopping my ZoneAlarm from running in the system tray. I am back with FF 2.0.0.20, but for some reason I am unable to get my ABP Ad Block Plus back, any ideas?
