  1. Cool. And now you don't have to enable the indexing service.
  2. If your using the Classic Start Menu, Make sure you have Use Personalized Menus unchecked. Right Click the Start Menu, Customize, it's at the bottom under Advanced Start Menu Options. If you prefer modifying the registry: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "IntelliMenus"=dword:00000000
  3. My Start_AutoCascade is set to 1 as well but I ocassionally see the scroll button. It shouldn't appear at all for a menu with only a couple of items. Personally, It doesn't bother me too much.
  4. Yes, that is a minor annoyance. That scroll button should only come into play when a program menu is very long and if you have scroll programs checked under start menu properties: Right click start menu and select properties. Customize | Advanced. Under start menu items, scroll down towards the bottom and you will see a check box for scroll programs. The only problem is that I myself have this unchecked and I still see the scroll button appear on menus regardless of its length. I guess it's a bug. I'm not aware of a fix for this. Perhaps someone else has a solution.
  5. If you want to play a wav file, Try this: Start /min sndrec32 /play /close "path to wavefile\wavefile.wav" Cheers.
  6. As to your first question, I don't know. For an unattended CD installation, unattend.txt needs to be renamed to winnt.sif and put in the I386 directory on your CD. Refer to this: http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/winnt_sif.htm
  7. I haven't been installing this update lately but I did find it on one of my older backup CDs. [ File Removed ]
  8. Open my computer or any folder for that matter. Select Tools | Folder Options | File Types. Scroll down until you find the mp3 extension, select it, then click advanced. Select Change Icon, browse to the Windows Media Player folder, double click on wmplayer.exe, choose the icon you want to use.
  9. Both of those hotfixes are type one. Try this: kb826939.exe /Q /O /N /Zkb835732.exe /Q /O /N /ZRefer to this thread for the correct switches: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=8741 Cheers,
  10. Not sure if this will be useful but you might try checking the documentation that comes with the Cabinet Software Development Kit. http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default..../html/cabdl.asp Makecab is a part of that kit so the docs should have something to say about it.
  11. I don't know if this will help but you may find a fix for your problem here. http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=159554
  12. I never use CDROOT as the source when running xpcreate.cmd. What I meant was creating an ISO from CDROOT using CDIMAGE.EXE (not xpcreate.cmd). If I need to add a couple of reg tweaks, apps, etc, I just modify/add the appropriate files in CDROOT\$OEM$ and create the new ISO. Cheers,
  13. Lol! Now that is pretty freaky!
  14. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders] This registry key contains all of the values for user shell folders including 'My documents'. The value name used for the 'my documents' folder ( or user's documents) is 'personal'. I do not believe you can change my documents from winnt.sif. Cheers.
  15. In XP, you can delete the entire recycler directory. (rd /q/s c:\recycler, for example) It will be automatically recreated when you put something in the recycle bin. A minor problem is that the recycle bin on the desktop will show that it still contains items. As WwTIPPYwW pointed out, though, items deleted through the command prompt do not go to the recylce bin so the point is mute. Cheers.
  16. I've been fooling around with it but haven't got it to work perfectly. I'll definitely post a response if I get it to work.
  17. del /q %systemroot%\Prefetch\*.* The /q will do it quietly. *.* is a wildcard which will delete all files. Cheers,
  18. I've modified files (just $OEM$ stuff) in the CDROOT folder and used CDIMAGE.EXE to burn an ISO using CDROOT as the source. I've encountered no problems. I'm not sure about using CDROOT as the source when running XPCreate again. When I've added additional hotfixes/updates, I've always just used my original XP source. I copy my $OEM$ folder from CDROOT to FILESCD, delete CDROOT, then run XPCREATE. Nary a problem. Cheers,
  19. See http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=9453 The first trick in this thread is Gosh's method for copying the I386 files to your hardrive. It also installs the recovery console. If you do not want the recovery console installed, then remove these lines from source.bat: ECHO Please wait, Recovery Console is being installed locally.%CDROM%\i386\winnt32.exe /dudisable /cmdcons /unattendCheers,
  20. You may want to wait until someone posts a list which hasn't been created by xpcreate.
  21. **Sorry, I see that you have put them in order. I posted this before I saw that. Just ignore this post completely. I need to go to bed.** [snip]
  22. That's why I love XPcreate. I've got my original (sp1) CD+hacked files in it's own folder. Then all the rest in XPcreate. I've been making modifications to the files stored in CDROOT and burning test ISOs from there. If a test ISO works, I back up my $OEM$ files and continue on. If I screw something and I can't find the problem, I just run xpcreate again with my last working $OEM$ restored to FILESCD. Usually, all I need to do is just replace the $OEM$ in CDROOT since, at this stage, I haven't really been tinkering with anything outside of that. Fortunately, I haven't had to start from scratch in awhile.
  23. You might try installing that in safe mode. If it still does not work. Use the recovery console. If you don't know how, it's pretty easy: http://www.wown.com/pages/article_p.asp?id=251 From there, you can replace any file. Hope this helps.
  24. Yeah, I know the feeling. I've started from scratch a couple of times. There's still so much more I need to do. Organize all of my start menu items, for one. I was considering just deleting all of the shortcuts from runonce.exe during cleanup and then use a sfx to install the organized shortcuts. Seems the easiet way.
  25. I want to see your list, KillerBee. Cheers,
