Well, I dunno of any desktop software that can do that, but I did read an article on PC Mag that can save u search time. The writer pointed out that you can create a desktop wallpaper on photoshop or something that has sections like this: http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_g...&i=64016,00.gif Saves u the hassle of installing programs... I hide my desktop so I can see my wallpaper clearly... So u might wanna create folders for ur shortcuts... and label them... Maybe someone will post some sort of software that can help u out, but these r some options.

Do you have to install an operationg system on a secondary hard drive to just have it store some files?? Like I have my primary drive installed and in place. I want to put in another one in as a secondary. Do I have to format it and install XP or an OS to have it store some files for me??

IPX is not supported on my network... so we rely on TCP. What about in the IE settings, is there a way I can tell it to just not go out?? Thanx!!!

Is there a way to have a directory locked, so that when you try to go in t here it asks you for a password?? Cuase if someone is logged in as you, they can get in the directory cause of the rights... right?? or not??

If worst comes to worst, u might want to uninstall SP2 and try it then, it may be an SP2 Bug, then you can report it and they can fix it (hopefully) .... I have never ran across that problem though, but that does seem extremely odd. Try that Mac, hopefully it will work for u.

You can try re-installing the drive with new drivers. That should work.

I'm sorry maybe I didn't explain clearly enough, my fault. But what I want to do is just stop a person here at work from going out to the internet and yet have them be able to use the network. Basically I don't want this person using the web. That person is really freakin illiterate and most likely start installing stuff on the machine. In any case, that's all I want to do. If I dissable the NIC she will not have access to the network, and we need to her to grab files from our File Server. Is there a way to just stop IE from going out to the internet? Like I said, I don't want to mess with the firewall, or the Server (DC) so is there some setting I can change on the machine to stop IE from going out?? Sorry for the confusion guys, and thanx a lot.

By the way, I'm running DHCP on the network. if it helps.

Is there a way to make an XP CD?? I know that there is but I have had trouble finding the right way to do it. I'm trying to create a new XP CD because my version is old and it doesn't have the new drivers and updates for my machine, so it takes me longer to reinstall everything right.

Before you shut down take a look at the processes and see if there's anything hogging the resources. Then like Rik said, kill all the startup processes and see if it reboots. When it comes back reset the one by one to narrow it down, of course start by re-setting the important ones first, cause most likely it maybe one of them that's causing the prob.

That's why I don't install things like Hotbar... They r big causes of pop ups and just mail and s&^t... I would remove the toolbar like Mac said, and run some Spybot on that machine... also u can use Window Washer to clean your temp files and stuff... make it nice and clean...

I remember something happened like that with our server at work. The problem for us was the onboard NIC, it was faulty so we got it replaced. When we replaced it, we started to use it, and the prob persisted. So we switched to the other NIC and the problem went away. I'm guessing that it had something to do with the onboard NIC and how it handled the traffic. Maybe this helps you out...

#1 if it's not broken, don't fix it. because new products mean new headaches. #2 if you r gonna upgrade, just go to 2k3. Personally? XP is ok, but 2k3 takes the cake, some people will dissagree, but I love the newness of the product and the flexibility. It has way more features and you can do a lot more. I don't know how much ur users need, but this is just a personal opinion.

what you can do is invest in an external HD. I got a 40G Maxtor USB drive for like 100 bucks, and it works like a million bucks. I have been recommending to everyone to get one of these so that they can keep their data on it and be able to blow away the system at any given date and not worry bout the data. Plus the Maxtor requires no installs, it is the full meaning of PNP. U plug and it works. Simple.

Yeah, I don't know if that's even possible. You can't turn a printer into a scanner... just not possible.
