  14. ofcourse public dns should be placed in dmz and this is why users use public dns for queries and for zone trasfer updates to other dns all over the world. Lan- not good since you expose unneeded services/traffic to your lan segment from the internet. Public- not good either cause the server is left unprotected ,in theory all services are open for hijacking this server even if only some are left working. dmz -good,only required services are left open AND you get the benefit of a good firewall in sense of logging, application layer filtering and protection.
  15. stop start netlogon to make sure the trust is working fine on both dc's if you dont see any warnings or errors after you did that then trust is not the problem i am 90% sure its dns issue(like most issues when multiple domains are involved) what are the connections between the two domains in terms of dns? does every domain hold its own A.D integrated dns? does each of them have secondary zone for the other domain? is there delegation of the child domain in parent? give us some info
  16. my friend you have amisconfigured network probably there is no slow performance with xp and 2003 or 2000 servers probably your dns configuration is wrong give us some info: what version are the servers(2003/2000)? whats the dns name of your domain? whats the dns server your clients use(ipconfig /all >info.txt what errors do you get in event viewer on client machines and server machines? do you have wins servers installed? is the domain in native mode? waiting for info
