I'm using the built-in Windows XP Pro remote desktop connection util to control a PC on my LAN. I entered the username/pass I wish to use in the connection.RDP file, along with other settings for the remote session, yet after the terminal connects to the remote machine, I am prompted with the familiar, "Log On to Windows" prompt. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? In the past, (before the reinstall of windows), it didn't ask me for the username/password; t would just connect and use the name/pass I provided in the RDP file. Thanks!

What switches would you recommend to do a silent install? Thanks!
-
yeah, the /s doens't work

Why would you curse your PC by using AOL? ****, use anything else.

Problem solved! It was a network drive! I have a PC that is off most of the time, but I still had the drive mapped. Disconnected it and now it logs in very fast! So is there a setting to change the time it waits for a reply from networked machines? That way the drive can still be mapped, but offline most of the time.

What a joke. Do they actually expect us to run their "automatic updates" service to query windowsupdate.micro$oft.com? Anyone know how I can simply view all post sp2 hotfixes and cherry pick those I want to download under v5 of WU? The mainpage had this about yet another flaw in internet explorer. (Makes me glad I use Mozilla, but I'd like to d/l a fix all the same).

Finally manually configed my network, reboot. Same 30-40 second pause only after logging in (after typing passwd). It doesn't matter if I let the logon screen stay there for like 2 or 3 minutes or if I do it right away. Any more ideas?

testing batch_file.cmd without a full install
graysky replied to graysky's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Thanks for the reply... that's what I've been doing. I thought there might be some way to do so automagically via some series of commandline switches. -
Thanks for the info dude... I created a SS SP2 disc, but haven't used it yet. Just applied SP2 to an exsisting running install.

Yea, but I thought one of Mozilla's strenghts was that it doesn't use the m$ JVM and thus not open to exploits that use the many holes in that piece of sh*t software? I honestly can't see how I got this... it has been removed though
-
Actually, if you do step 4 from that guide, you'll find that all the files are present and the reg keys are present also.... I think the m$ JVM is included in SP2
-
So no m$ Java VM in SP2? I read this which really doesn't say. I am actually just rebooting an xpsp2 machine after completing step 2...

I tried to slip SP2 into my unattended SP1 CD and got some error message. Glad I went back to my original release CD -- if there is a size savings from doing so
-
I agree with you about that... the odd thing is that SP2 was the last program I installed on that PC which raises a red flag in my mind. Aware and spybot removed the offending reg entries... I still want to know where that f****** thing came from

Anyone ever have icons appear on the desktop for no reason? My PC is behind a hardware firewall and I use additional software blocking. This afternoon I came back to find a number of icons present on the desktop that I did not install. They include: Adware Remover Payday Loan Dating Online Pharmacy Sports Betting I also noticed that I now have a "search bar" in my explorer windows, screen shot: EDIT: now adware and spybot found "CoolWWWSearch" (61 reg entries in all). I don't use IE on my system at all. Any ideas how this crap get installed?
-
It's a cool util, this is true, but you don't need it. Read through the unattended guide that teaches you how to do this stuff manually. People have been making these CDs for a long time now without frontends

You're the boss aknott. Worked like a charm. Thanks to all who contriubed to this also! This place rocks!
-
How much memory do you have? I just went to 1.0 gig on this machine and found that I don't need a page file at all. Have been running without one for about 6 weeks now and never had any errors.
-
Somehow, my SP2 install has limited the amount of applications that are displayed in my alt tab popup to 4. In other words, I have say 8 applications running. Instead of showing 8 different icons in the alt tab popup, it's only displaying 4 at a time. It does scroll through them, but this is annoying. Anyone know if there's a reg tweak or something to change this? I'm not even sure how it happened. Thanks all!

This doesn't answer your question, but if all you're after is the ability to use non m$ themes, just use use the correct version of the modified UXTHEME.DL_ in your unattended install CD. Dunno where the SP1 related one is, but here is a link to the SP2 one you'll need.
-
I'll give it a shot: -Adware shows nothing -Spybot shows nothing
-
I can run the install unattended "builds" in a virtual PC which is very nice. It just takes a while to get through the normal windows setup to the point where I may or may not get an error related to my batch_file.cmd. Is there a way to test this file without going through the entire windows install to do it?

error on sp2 slipstream unattended CD
graysky replied to graysky's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Well, the guide in my first post says to use the "C:\XP-SP2\i386\Update\Update.exe -S:C:\XP" to slipstream. I found other sources out there that say to use the /integrate switch to do it. I started over and did it with this switch... no problems! Can anyone else confirm this? -
Yeah, but I sold my GF4 5200 to a friend a while ago and am stuck with this crappy 440MX until I get an X800. I don't even wanna see what doom3 looks like on this board so I'm not going to get it until I have the video board I'd get a 6800 ultra, but I don't like the fact that one needs a 480 W PS to use it. I think having 2 connectors is wastful. Tomshardware.com showed some crude power consumption at idle and gaming and the 6800U used more than the X800 did. That's reason enough for me to get the ATI Plus it's susposed to look better. ...now if I can just find one!

1. Copied my original XP Pro non SP1 CD onto my HD. 2. Followed the guide at theeldergeek.com to slipstream the files from SP2 to it. It worked with no errors. 3. Followed the guide at http://unattended.msfn.org/ to make an answer file (yes I downloaded the SP2 deployment toolds). Added a few modifications as per the sp2 section of the unattended.msfn.org page. 4. Made the image using CDIMAGE.EXE and the "ISO Creator for WinXP Pro.cmd" I got from http://unattended.msfn.org/ When I mounted the resulting ISO in Virtual PC 2004 it boots up into the install alright, but after the "Press F2 to run Automated System Recovery (ASR)..." message I get a screen that says, "Please insert the disk labeled Windows XP Progesional Service Pack 1 CD into Drive A: * Press ENTER when ready." What did I mess up? If I test this with my old SP1 unattended slipstreamed CD I made, it works just fine. Suggestions are welcomed
