  1. Sent via PM .. once we (you) figure it out, I'll post the relevant info in case others are interested.
  2. Cool... looks fine from the registry now; however when I right-click a dir and select the "do replaygain" option, a dos window opens and closes too fast for me to read the error message. I can't tell what's happening but the batch file should take a good 30-50 seconds to complete when run from commandline. Any ideas how I can add a wait or something so I can debug? Thanks again!
  3. Firstly, thanks for the help I copied your code into a "dogain.reg" file like so: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Folder\shell\do replaygain] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Folder\shell\do replaygain\command] @="\"C:\My Bats\dogain.bat\" \"%1\"" And then merged it with my registry. (I also moved the files to c:\my bats to keep it simple.) When I looked at the resulting registry in regedit, the last line of the batch file is no where in sight... what did I do wrong?
  4. Using pathman.exe was the perfect solution to my problem under WinXP... now, how can I do this under Win98?
  5. Man, only 17 reads in a day? I think I'm on my own with this one
  6. Can someone tell me how I can add a right-click menu item that will simply run a batch file in the directory I right-click? I know how to do this with a file, but not a directory. For files, I my send to notepad tweak is as follows: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\Shell] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\Shell\Send to Notepad] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\Shell\Send to Notepad\Command] @="notepad.exe %1" In my example, I have a batch file called "dogain.bat" and I would like it to run in a whatever directory the user right-clicks and then selects the option (let's call it "do replaygain") from the pop-up menu. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
  7. Actually, I just need a way to do this via commandline/batch file if that's able to do it
  8. How would I go about adding the ENVIRONMENT registry entries via batch file without over-writing the current lines as digitalfront points out?
  9. My main interest lies in testing the syntax of my batch_file.cmd... Is there a faster way to do this (i.e. without letting the XP installation get to the point where it actually starts using that file)?
  10. Thanks for the info man. I actually knew about this thread, but I was wondering if there isn't a switch I can use on the installer that would accomplish the same effect.
  11. Aside from the -ms switch... what are some other options for silent installs? Do you have a link that details other switches and their behaviors? Thanks! (I'm very interested in having FF become my default browser on install without adding reg keys... there has to be a switch that does it.)
  12. I've been using the -ms switch to do my silent installs but just noticed that doing so does not set firefox as the default browser. 1) Can someone point me to a list of the different switches one can use? 2) Is there a switch I can add to my commandline that will set firefox as the default browser?
  13. http://www.mozilla.org/docs/command-line-args.html#options
  14. Through reading some posts, I discovered the following switches: -silent -turbo -nosplash -setdefaultbrowser Can someone point me to a page or doc that lists all the switches and their effect on the browser? Thanks!
  15. Found the answer in a round-able way... not actually a regkey, but it works:
  16. I'm insterested in using stunnel to secure my connections on 3389 for window remote desktop. There is a very nice guide on the topic written by a Principal Software Engineer at Oracle that teaches you how to do just that using VNC. Anyway, in his guide, Artur recommends only allowing VNC to use stunnel by forcing the incoming connection to the localhost. My question: anyone know how to limit listening on the 3389/tcp port (remote desktop) only to the localhost (127.0.0.1) without doing it in a software firewall?
  17. I agree. Since they control 90+% of the home OS market, they have no reason to offer a competitive security solution (or otherwise). The very idea of having a browser integrated into ANYTHING is crazy. Mozilla and firefox all the way @Jeremy: can you share you nlite settings with the group? I too removed some bloat, but the numbers you're talking about are huge.
  18. IE = screendoor in terms of security. Use IE for a few weeks and then run adaware and see how many spyware items you've picked-up.
  19. I've been using the following to set thunderbird as the default mail client: ;set thunderbird as default mail client [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\mail] @="Mozilla Thunderbird" Can't seem to find an equiv. for browsers. I'd like Mozilla to be the default out-of-the-box browser. What's the reg key to do so?
  20. If you look under the program options, you can disable it.
  21. Does anyone have an answer to this question? Also, where can one manually (i.e. through ftp or http) download said updates? Thanks!
  22. Yeah...since it's under a meg, it blows AR7 away... that think is total bloatware. I have viewed some 600+ page patents in Foxit without any rendering problems. 5 stars to them for that application!
  23. I've been doing that for a while now, but I'm half trying to cut back on space on my CD and the other half of me just hates bloatware.
