graysky
Anyone ever have icons appear on the desktop for no reason? My PC is behind a hardware firewall and I use additional software blocking. This afternoon I came back to find a number of icons present on the desktop that I did not install. They include:Adware RemoverPayday LoanDatingOnline PharmacySports BettingI also noticed that I now have a "search bar" in my explorer windows, screen shot:EDIT: now adware and spybot found "CoolWWWSearch" (61 reg entries in all). I don't use IE on my system at all. Any ideas how this crap get installed?
gabriel_buc
I don't use IE on my system at all.You don't have to really use IE to get that spyware on your PC. Maybe you installed a program that included that spyware. Use Ad-aware & Spybot to clean your PC and see if it comes up again.EDIT: there is no connection between the spyware and SP2 as you state in the topic title. Aware and spybot removed the offending reg entries... I still want to know where that f****** thing came from
gabriel_buc
All I could find on the net is that the soyware you got infected with uses an exploit in MS Java VM. The strange thing is that the exploit is over an year old and have been patched by M$. The patch should have been included in the SP2.Just as a precaution visit WinUpdate to check if there are no updates for your PC.
Bachus
SP1a and SP2 don't have the Java VM, so they don't include any updates to it, either..

That is where it came from... you accidently clicked on something you shouldn't have... stuff happens...Yea, but I thought one of Mozilla's strenghts was that it doesn't use the m$ JVM and thus not open to exploits that use the many holes in that piece of sh*t software? I honestly can't see how I got this... it has been removed though
